Oh, boy! Unemployment is not sexy??? Really? At least a Firefly came out of this nonsense comment...

Unemployment is not sexy? I challenge anyone to tell me that THIS is NOT sexy:

When I first started using the Firefly you could say I had to learn not to combust rather than learn to vape from the Firefly. I had about 3 or 4 unexpected combustion episodes until I figured out how to prevent it. I have always been able to experience combustion with my Firefly though I don't.

My point is that if your unit has never had combustion it may be too cool. My unit has produced successful vapor from day one and I think one of the main reasons for that is that my unit is a 'hottie'. It is hard to get vapor from a unit not hot enough to EVER experience combustion.

Of course this is not science and just my two-cents worth on this subject. :2c:
I have also been able to produce combustion if I try to do it. Not pleasant haha. My girlfriend sometimes still combusts but I think she may be hitting the button twice. For me the times I have combusted I was pulling too slow on a heavily packed bowl. I am happy to have a "hot" unit. I just dont do the things that I know cause combustion and I am rewarded with a great vape experience.

I recently purchased a Firefly. So far I've only had some dried peppermint to vape. I ordered a herbal blend to try as well for the time being. The tea produced little vapor. The first time I tried it I had a cooling feeling in my throat and maybe some light wisps of vapor but that was about it. Should I expect more from the dried peppermint? I'll try the herbal blend next and then something stronger later. Hopefully I won't have to send it back in. Oh, and the glass doesn't get "hot" it gets mildly warm and that's after holding the button in for 7 seconds or so.

I will chime in here also. When first using the FF I had quite a few combustion events. Mostly due to multiple button presses and or lengthy draws. Also too tightly packing the bowl can cause combustion. I agree if you cant combust something may be wrong. It hasn't happened to me since I learned with the help of you folks how to use the FF efficiently.

Hello everyone, im the owner of a FF runing on the warm side. I tried several technique offer in this forum to avoid burning of my finely grind material and think I finaly find what work great for my unit!!!
The screen of my Wispr 2 fitted perfectly in the bowl of my ff, it as the perfect diameter. I just try it once, but it work perfectly in my unit!!!
By the way, sorry if my english is not perfect it's not my main language : )

I do think it's useful to make the distinction between combustion you may perceive from overheating (holding down the button too long, too fine a grind, pulsing the button) and serious, out-of-control combustion. I can make my current FF burn a bit (some charred material bits here and there, and a taste to match) by holding down the button too long. I cannot make it WILDLY combust like my first, hot unit.

If anyone is experiencing the kind of combustion I got with FF #1, there is something wrong. That was "press button, draw for two seconds BAM mouth fills with smoke" combustion. Like going from barely getting vapor to bong-hit sized smoke in your mouth, smoke that can be smelled from two rooms away.

Occasional charring from overheating is normal in any vape and can be avoided via technique. Combustion you cannot control and that occurs spontaneously in just a couple seconds of button pushing...THAT'S what I'm talking about when I refer to a "hot" FF. That kind of activity cannot be contained by technique, and a unit that does that should be replaced with one that has a more normal temp profile.

Thanks Poonman for helping me with picture!!
The wispr screen fit perfectly in the bowl of the Firefly and it avoid combustion and produce big tasty cloud.
I sale my ascent to a friend because it need too much herb to work properly and think this unit fit more my need, but it take lot of practice to master the firefly, but I love it!
As you can see on my pic, it miss 2 screws on the bottom my unit!
I contact FF crew and they will ship my missing screw this week!

Would you be willing to post a pic of your ABV after using those wispr screens?

Sorry I'm just randomly popping in, but I had a few questions. hope you guys don't mind!

So I'm in no way opposed to the Firefly - especially its design, which screams greatness. I'd like to like it.

However, I'm a bit perplexed by its price tag - $269? From what I can tell it works the same as a MFLB. The price has obviously been bumped up from the sleek design and batteries, but is the vapor any better?

It's more than a PAX too - for those who have tried both, which one produces better vapor?

First of all, convection vs conduction, the flavor in this vape should be awesome (I still don't have one).

Second, the quality of the components make it more expensive to build. I think that you can't compare the MFLB with a FF price wise.

The local shop here in Waterbury is selling them for $250. wish I had known before I went and got mine. Could have saved a few bucks :(

You really can't compare the Firefly to the MFLB. I fully admit that I'm a newbie with the LB, so my technique is far from perfect, but I can definitely produce visible vapor and get medicated from it. That said, the Firefly produces way more vapor, and thicker vapor, and compared to the LB, there is little to no learning curve.

I actually took both my LB and my Firefly out about an hour ago while my wife and I ran a couple of errands. I love the LB...it's small and stealthy and aesthetically appealing. But I have to think about my session quite a bit, much more so than with the Firefly. The LB can and will get the job done, but not nearly as easily, consistently, and thoroughly as the FF.

I'm a pretty experienced vaporist and have converted enough people to vaping and have seen enough people vape to say, with confidence, that I completely understand why the MFLB is such a love-it-or-hate-it vape, even among those who enjoy more manual vapes. On the other hand, I have a hard time imagining anyone not loving the FF (as long as you enjoy this style of vaping).

It must also be said that if you hold the two units in your hands, you will completely understand why the FF costs $150 more than the MFLB. :) The weight, heft, and build quality of the Firefly simply doesn't come across in photos.

Convection vs. conduction...FF vapor kicks the crap out of MFLB vapor. Much smoother, much tastier. Build quality: solid metal and glass components, vs. a small wooden box. Battery power paradigm: instead of having to juggle and recharge multiple batteries, and rely on variable/inconsistent power delivery from said batteries, the FF uses a powerful on demand heating system that never lets you down.

Yes, the FF is a bit overpriced IMO. And maybe the MFLB is better "value"...and certainly, as someone who owns two MFLB's, I think it's a fine little stealth unit. But the MFLB is like a Toyota Camry or Honda Civic compared to the FF's BMW (or Tesla, as the FF designers have said). There's just such a massive delta in design, build quality, and utility between the two.

Still haven't used a Pax, so I'm useless for that comparison.

The FF and the Pax are a better comparison. They're both slick, self-contained, and well thought out high-quality products that are in the same price range yet perform/behave differently in actual use.

BTW, I don't disagree with this! I think a portable vape priced at over $250 is slightly obscene (for a girl on my budget, at least), though luckily I was able to pick up my FF at a discount during the holidays. That said, I personally think it's worth paying a wee bit more to pick up a FF over a Pax or some of the other $250 portables! I mean, if you're going to spend that much anyway...

And yeah, I did own the Pax. I sold it after a month and a half, two months. It was an herb hog, it smelled bad, and it was incredibly high maintenance simply to keep it functional. On the flip side, I feel like the FF is simplicity defined. So as far as my experience goes, I'd happily pay twice as much for a FF as a Pax! :worms:

My one gripe with the FF is that it feels like i'm trying to pull a mac truck through a bendy straw, that is how tight the airflow is. I also seem to have better experiences with moist herb, as opposed to dry.

I have posted this so often that I think I'll make a keyboard macro for it: if the draw feels restricted then you're pulling too hard.

This applies to every vapourizer.
