i wish i grew up then with the zboys and dogtown surfing and skating. the evolution of skateboarding.
Red Vans, 501 Jeans, Hang Ten Tee Shirts and Clay Wheels before Cadilac Wheels came out. Jay and Tony owned the South Bay however we had our own movement in Huntington Beach.

I ran into Jay a few months ago. He was about to paddle out on the North side of HB Pier. I had just paddled in and was heading back to the parking lot. Zipper tattoo still visible on his head.

Anyway, Solo related:

I own both a PVHES Shorty and Shorty Turbo. I've never managed to get a solid hit from the Turbo. The regular Shorty worked great, but I noticed that one side of the bowl would brown nicely, while the other side would still show flecks of green. After cleaning the stem and standing it up on a flat surface (bowl end down) I noticed that the edge of the bowl is not "even", as if it had been ground down unevenly. Looking at the stem head on, while standing up on a flat surface, it clearly angles to one side :(

So once inserted and held in place by the o-ring, the edge/lip of the bowl does not contact the surface of the heater evenly. This lead to uneven heating and an early retirement for my Shorty.

So I'm back to the stock stem (I prefer the straight one), but now with the PV o-ring in place. I found that since I upped my temp setting from 5 to 6 I get HUGE hits from the stock stem with the o-ring in place. Now I just need to work on a better domed screen to reduce the stock bowl size.

Sometimes when you get frustrated or just plain bored with your Solo you can "shake things up" and have more fun trying out new things.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a hold of the cap alone? I think I ruined the threads on mine when I tried to put the O-ring in there, now my cap just spins around and I have to secure it with a rubber band...:(
Arizer replaced a lost cap for me for $5.00. I had no problem with the new one: fit perfect. From a different batch, so the paint was just a tad different.

Solod out.
How much water do you need in this piece? What is the resistence like?

I've been curious about this one for a while. Looks more comfortable to hit than my PNWT.

Cheers

Not a lot of water. The great thing about it is its made to prevent water getting into ur mouth. I fill the base about halfway and ive never gotten water in my mouth. The mouthpiece especially helps in that regard. The hole in the middle really does the job. Very comfortable to hold. Solid and rigid whether u hold it from the base, bowl, mouth piece or whatever even with the solo attached.
Not much resistance.
I rlly recommend this piece. If u have other questions let me know.

It seems that PV has adjusted the depth of the side channels on the HE stems to accommodate the new airflow designs of the M1C1/M1D1 solos. I recently ordered my roommate a 18mm PVHEGonG and my girlfriend a straight shorty PVHES and both of them have significantly shallower slits on the sides than my older GonG I ordered last summer for my M1A1. Has anyone else noticed this change?

@OF I have 3 different serial numbers over a 2 1/2 year spread and since I added the seal all three work the same!

Cool. Do those caps interchange? Can you put them on any unit you want?

For sure had I ordered a replacement cap for one of the pairs I've had in front of me without telling them which it would have been a matter of luck which it would fit.

BTW, one of these 'mismatched pairs' was the one I posted a photo of the different cap thicknesses.....it was while exploring that I stumbled on the 'can't always swap caps' problem.

I currently have two Solos, both basically 'the same model', the caps don't interchange on them. One will not thread all the way down on 'the wrong tube', the other won't stay on. I just checked again, still the same. Both are the thinner type.

Ordering a replacement 'blind' would seem a 50/50 chance thing for me at this point?

Interesting.

Seems unlikely to me they'd do this without making some note of it. Right now, I suspect way more customers will be return customers looking for fitting to 'old version'???

I suspect the cuts are controlled by the bottom (not the top) of the grooves by a fixture. The OD on the stems I have is not very true. How do the ODs on the stems you have compare?

TIA

I recently bought the Solo and im just waiting for it to be shipped. Owning a PnP myself, and knowing how a good accessory can make your vaping experience that much better (E.g PNWT). Is there any can't miss Solo Accessory out there?

Was looking around and so far the Stealth Stem caught my eye the most, although it seems it won't cool the vapor that great given it's small size.

I will take a look, My girlfriend will be visiting this weekend so I will measure then. My dog is terrified of measuring tapes for some reason so he always gets mad at me when I'm doing things around the house. Are you talking about the OD at the bottom of the stem? The depth difference I noticed is on the side slits that lead down towards the bottom. I also have a normal straight PVHES I will compare.

Consensus says the stealth stem sucks. Much better to use a PVHE gong as a short stem if youre looking to cut down on profile.

As for accessories, I'mma go with @OF on this. Try the stock stuff first. Once you get the hang of it you will be better prepared to say what you like/dislike so you can adjust accordingly with accessories.

That being said, I love my @Pipes AIO stand. Keeps shit from getting knocked over.

For anyone who has had to send their Solo in .. how spotless do I have to get this thing? They are about an hour from me so it's not going far or across the border. But i'm thinking I should probably get a q-tip and some iso to try clear up the oven because it is slightly stained. I just don't want to piss them off regarding this "zero tolerance policy"

The stealth stem is the only one I don't use, better to get a GonG for use with your PNWT and/or a small bubbler. PVHE stems are worth a try if you are bothered by the reduced flow restriction but I personally stick to my stock stems and GonG most of the time.

How do you use that? You put it inside your stem?
I'm betting it's small enough to sit down inside the oven and the stem fitting over it... but that's just a guess!

Hope someone has one and chimes in as this would be a nice accessory to have!

Would be great to say: Don't vape oil much, but when I do, I fly SOLO!!!!

Cool, thanks.

Yes, I'm thinking the OD on that stem is bigger. My guess is the stems are 'blown' into a cavity (graphite is used I think?) then allowed to cool before being cut, fire polished and then ground (both notches and grooves). I suspect the grinding is done in a fixture of some sort, with or without a mandril inside, for that process. The OD, is what it contracts on cooling to be I think. If it came out larger or thicker walled, the cuts would be deeper, if it came out thin enough there'd be no cuts at all?

Holding them mouth to mouth and feeling the ODs is probably enough. You can probably even use a fingernail to judge if the cut depth is really all that much different WRT to the centerline, that is check all 3 groove sets at one time?

This is, I think, what also leads to the reports of 'my XX stem is tighter/looser than my YY stem'?

Thanks again for checking, interesting stuff.
