Got a second hand ssv today and I'm trying to get the heating element into the right position, but it keeps sliding down. Currently, it only comes up to just below where the HC bends to the wand attachment. It works in this position, but I feel like it could be producing better vapor. My understanding is that the element should rest just below the top of the HC. It's the old style housing.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yeah I was thinking about opening it up, just worried that I might fuck it up. I'll take a look and see how complicated it is in there.

So last night i made a bong out of a plastic bottle, because im ghetto spec like that, and used my normal sized bud wand (daily is a custom fatty) as a downstem. Well fuck me it mounts up perfectly while holding the ssv up in the air. LOL, i agree now with what others have said about hydrotube being a complicated waste of money. I think ill just buy a small ceramic bong and replace the downstem with my wand and gasket that shit up so it seals.

Will report back with photos when i do it.

Are those fine mesh?

I agree, ripping the ring off is a PITA, much better solution. I did two more this weekend.

Are the UD's screens adjustable? I just found out recently the e-nano screens are adjustable too.

It's a pretty fine mesh. Not sure what you mean by adjustable though.

I understand its easier to use plastic but please save up and get a cheap glass piece at least ! Even if your not combusting in there you never know what you could be inhaling..

I have glass, but hate using it. I dislike the smell of water.
I also will use plastic bottles for disposable bongs when others want filtration.
This Prune juice bottle bubbler, gets the tube stuck down in the water, and the wand is used as it normally would be... The bottles top is the mouthpiece.
No heat passes through the bottle, after the tubing and then the water.. and no chemicals can be imparted... Heck FDA says you can drink off this surface...
At any rate I have been making this same bong for folks to use (for combustion also), and I have used it as well, since 1967!

Another deal like the one I got yesterday is up from the same ebay seller, ending later today. Don't let the $200 buynow fool you - I placed my highest bid @ $60, which was immediately maxed with the reserve met. No other bidders. I win I guess (new at this) ... the invoice is paid.

This seems too good too be true for a new sealed SSV, even considering the ridiculous handling time. I took the risk because of the ebay moneyback thing. Here's hopin' this thing actually arrives at my door in March!

Seller has no rating to boot. Not sure if I should be worried.

About to buy my first "real" vaporizer. I bought an atmos rx as an uneducated buyer. Anyways I narrowed it down to a solo or ssv and seeing that I don't plan on using it anywhere but home I think I'm about to pull the trigger on a ssv. My question is where to buy one without spending $250-300. I'm a little Leary about eBay. Thanks in advance.

I got the 14 mm waterpipe adapter. Tried it out last night and had amazing success with some big smooth clouds with the dial at about 3 o clock. Lovely.

I have typically been bumping my temp from 1:30 to a little past 3 near the end. Is the evenness of the abv indicative of how thoroughly vaped? I occasionally get pieces very dark and some green left too, even when no vapor is any longer being produced. Thoughts? I am fairly new to vaporizing. I own a Firefly and use it regularly, and I used a friend's SSV for years but never was very hands on with the unit or the abv.

One small complaint about the great SSV I wish the nob was on the same side as the element. Maybe I should have got a dbv. However I love the look of the unit and the spherical ground glass joint is amazing. It's NBD just wondering if anyone agreed?

Yeah that's an SSV quirk. I think the overall unit is an elegant solution for looking clean in front with a downward-angled heater cover. This is what the slanted tube design is all about. If the tube wasn't slanted, or didn't have a cut-out (which wouldn't look as slick as a bullet-tube), the heater cover would have to stick out like a faucet so you could get under it. This would look goofy (we could call it the gonzo tube) and would be hazardous to have hot glass protruding from the design.

Another benefit though is that the logo/front looks super clean with no heating element or cord, and maybe kinda discreet too depending on your colors. Can't really tell what it is unless you're 420 smart and you recognize the blown glass, and then you can only suspect unless you inspect it or know the SSV already.

I'm still waiting for mine. I think I'll be turning it 90 degrees (sideways - left hand knob, right hand wand) for vaping, and squaring it up again when done... we'll see.

If you don't care about the SSV downward design, maybe you shoulda gotten a DBV :( ... BUT BEFORE YOU GET SICK WITH REMORSE, enjoy the downward design - you won't be fighting gravity as you try to keep herbs spread evenly on your wand's screen (no spin just to avoid mess) - and the SSV's heating element has a greater surface area, it has aluminum housing, hand-blown glass parts... you got the pimp vape.

edit: idea: put the SSV on one of those lazy susan spinning things?
