Headaches when vaping

I have vaped for about 8 months and recently got the DBV. It's great but sometimes I get a pretty intense headache WITH the great high. The weed is pretty good and there are different types that's been vaped but they all are still giving me a headache at times. Seems to be happening more often and although the heat setting is the same as when I first got it 3 weeks ago, the bud seems to look more burned (browner & a few times even some black areas).

Just wondering if this has happened to others when vaping... let me know

If you're getting dark brown and especially black remains, sounds like your heat setting is high. You're probably hitting it hard too. Think lower heat and easier hits, or higher heat and harder hits. The strength of your hits helps determine the temp at the bowl. From my experience, a headache comes from hard hits. This may not be the case with you, but I'd try lowering the temp setting and hitting it nice and easy. You'll get a higher vapor to air ratio and be breathing more normally. That may not be the answer, but give it try.

Have you changed the screen on your whip yet? If the screen starts to get clogged up, it will make it harder to draw through the whip. When this happens, it effectively raises the temperature, even if you're using the same temp settings as usual. If you have to keep drawing harder to lower the vapor to the temperature you're used to, I'd suggest either lowering the temp on your Buddah or changing the screen; it really makes quite a difference when you change it for the first time.

Could it be a question of quantity? When I do the occasional weekend wake and bake and continue to vape heavily, by the time 4-5pm rolls around I sometimes have a small headaches. I attribute it to either some inflammation due to coughing (it was worse when i smoked) or just too much of a good thing.

Thanks for the responses so far guys... I've had my DBV for almost 1 month and have used it pretty much almost every day since I recieved it. I changed the screen about 1 week ago (so used the original screen for about 2.5 weeks) because I did notice that it was getting a little clogged but this problem has been going on before the screen change. I mainly use my glass bong (sometimes fill it with ice, sometimes nothing) just so that I SEE the vapor collect and not waste my draws. I also lowered the temp some but it really hasn't seemed to help. I do vape often and maybe it's TOO much of a good thing but when I first got my Buddha the never was a problem until the past 2 or so weeks (like said I 've had it for almost 4 weeks).

Looking back, I know that I've recently raised the temp a little bit (from 1 to 2 o'clock) to make sure that I vaped as much as I could from the greens but I do think this is when the problems started happening. This problem wouldn't come on right away but after the 2nd small bowl is when the headaches came on strong. I usualy take slow draws but I didn't change it up when I recently raised the temp and never hit it harder. I do think it's probably a combo of hitting it too soft when the temp is up higher (2 o'clock) so I think I'm going to try it this evening at around the 1 o'clock setting and draw like I've been doing. Will get back to you all and let you know how it went.

Please let me know any other comments or experiences with headaches and vaping... thanks again!

I only get the headache when I vape... from what I can remember I've never had it when smoking, at least nothing this intense. Like right now I've changed up a few things with the way I vape. I've always used a smaller amount in the bowl but I've vaped today lower than the normal. Although it took longer to see the vapor collect, it did work well and initialdid not give me any headache at all. After I stirred up the bowl on 2 different occations I collected the vaped weed (for later butter mix) and started a new bowl. After vaping the bowl a couple of times I started feeling the headache coming on. Although still not as bad as before, it's still there.

Maybe I just need to just vape 1 bowl but I've done this in the past and still have gotten the headache. I have used different types of bud but the past week with the new screen in it's been the same stuff. I've smoked some of this stuff and no problem... smoked the other stuff in the vape with the old screen and still got the headache. Anyways, that's where I'm at.. I'm still nice and high, just still have a bit of a headache.

Dang, have you tried vaping at a lower temperature.

Perhaps you are sensitive to something coming off at a higher temperature. Other than than I am out of ideas. I hope you find a solution that works well for you.

I think I'm going to take a vape break for at least 1-2 days and just smoke (combust) in small amounts. I think that some of the problem with the headaches could come from the slow draw through the bong or whip... sometimes I'll be there for 20-30 seconds doing that and then I get a little light headed. The reason I do this is to make sure that the vapor is being collected in the bong. After doing this though three to four times in a 5 minute period the headache starts to kick in.

Am I doing it right? I mean should 30 seconds of slowly taking in air through the vape/whip/bong cause light headedness, slight dizziness and headaches??? Thanks for the help guys, just trying to maximize and make my vaping experience as efficent and effective as possible. Keep the questions, comments and thoughts coming, they are all greatly appriciated!

Could be a sinus headache from simple irritation, particularly from lower terpenoids and other aromatics (non-cannabinoid essential oils; those with lower volatility) and/or chlorophyll (what makes plants green). Chlorophyll could be a problem if your stuff is simply too fresh, not fully cured (which usually allows chlorophyll degradation). Otherwise, even with the absolute best starting materials, there will always be at least several times as much non-active essential oils being vaped than cannabinoids. These include many irritant lower terpenes, phenolics, etc.

If you don't already, thoroughly dry and in the process mildly heat and thoroughly powder, fluff and air out your stuff. Let the stuff lose nearly all of its smell (with such aromatics perhaps being your problem). Of course, do this for just a short time at mild temperatures, e.g., 1-2 hours in a metal container above a light bulb.

And, probably change your inhalation technique. Perhaps, try to minimize vapor getting into the nasal passages, suck in/swallow more fresh air (including through nose), breath some fresh air between hits, etc.

i have read about the dehydration headache somewhere, so vaporist please make sure your body's fluid level is at a safe level. there has been cases of headache before the onset of thirst so drink up before you get thirsty.

Indeed! I always sip water while I vape.

Pappy,

Great Scott!
Did you turn the vape all the way up and let it burn off the oils for 10 min like it said in the manual? That is the only thing I can think of.

Ya know I get the mild headache also... Not all the time but enough for me to realize upon reading this thread.. I figured it was due to my lack of H2O intake so Im always drinkin water during and after.. The one thing that does happen which I cant explain is my ears ringing.. Never happened when I smoked..

I believe Shmaporist and Pappy have your answer.
How much water/fluids have you been drinking?
If you do not remember rehydrating frequently,
this could be the simple solution to your headaches.
I have a dehydration headache right now which I'm
trying to sip away. I also just pulled on a bag. :ko:

I used to get headaches from smoking and found that they bascially went away by switching to vaping. I figure it was the benzene, toluene, carbon monoxide, etc... causing it.

now if i get a headache it seems like it's actually from coughing a lot.

I'd be a little nervous if just one of my vapes was causing headaches and the others weren't. like maybe try your buddy's out if yours causes them.
