Well. Went ahead and pulled the trigger on my order from fasttech. They go on holiday on the 25th so hopefully they will get my order shipped by then. But probably not.

Didn't order batteries from there though. What is the cheapest online source for batteries in the U.S.?

http://trianglevape.com/sony-us18650vtc4-2100mah-30a/
^^^ That's the best deal I've found on the most current 30a Sonys.

Edit: efest says they're coming out with some 15a 18350s

just ordered a -

Chi you silver pin
Q2 ceramic cup rda
Patriot rda
Sony 18650s and charger.

Nice set up, should keep you busy for a few weeks :) id like to hear how the ceramic one works out for you.

I happen have a few other inert and porous items around the place and was wondering on your opinions whether or not they might be able to be used in a similar fashion with some chemical/heat sterilising and a little dremeling to shape?

-coral rock
-pumice rock
-2mm pelletised activated carbon
-aquarium ceramic rings
-aquarium airstones
-clay hydroton
----------------------------------------------------------
I might give the ceramic rings and / or air stones a try, have no idea about any of the others. ive read of people using the aquarium stones though, except they are not as porous as ones made specifically for our purposes like those flavor disks posted earlier in the thread.

I have a q2 ceramic atty looks great and vaped great for about 24hrs before a connecting pin in the 510 base came loose. Hopefully I was just unlucky, I'd like to get another cause it looked nice on the nemesis.

I picked up a piece of very thin titanium sheet while at my engineer buddies place yesterday, thinking I could fashion a small dish of some sort surrounded in ribbon kanthal.

Also i have just seen the volcano liquid pad which is a piece of stainless steel wool, ill try get my hands on some as the surface area and breathability must be alot better than wire rope.

I have a couple weeks of research anyhow as who knows how long my order will take to get to Nz

sounds pretty risky to me, all that. stainless steel wool is extremely flamable, if you dry burn that its done. Titanium plate inside an atomizer really gives me the shivers. good luck and dont blow your face off.... id really hold off on trying this out with the 30a sonys

In other news, EJmix has come in, just in time for me to run out of concentrates :(

Got a toooon of vape mail over this weekend. Got like 20 loranns flavors, the Big Nasty showed up, Helios Clone, and a cool new shorty drip tip (see on top of trident clone in first pic below)

The Ejmix stuff i got last week works, but my expermenting blasted through my supply of shatter. verry esspensive.

http://imgur.com/ekaZRpu Big nasty with nimbus clone and tapered drip tip.

INside : http://imgur.com/5pueCod Best coil/wick yet:

My first attempts using SS mesh screens. figured it would be convenient to just roll and go, but they are a little big, and since i needed to trim them, went ahead and tried my finer SS mesh (stainless steel 304 300 mesh, wire .0012") rolled this up really tight, cant stick a paper clip through middle, and then wrapped some 26ga around it about 6 times somewhat loosley as ive found it shorts out really easy if you try to do too tight of coils. Thing hits very nicely. I pack individual dabs by warming the coils, making sure its not sizling with wet finger, slap on dab and then hit the shit out of it.

One hitter quiter portable device(s) achieved.

Also should be mentioned I can put 10-15 drops of liquid in here, chain vape it and not get one dry hit / burn taste until it runs out. pretty crazy. bai bai silica

new RDA review: Helios
Helios RDA is great looks perfect on top of the big nasty as it has very similar grooves and is a perfect 23mm for the taper.... but the o rings are so crappy they broke within a day. This could be because it got pretty.... em... warm because of the quad coils on there that were SO easy to set up. Thinking of getting a legit Helios Atty and a ton of extra o rings. anyone looking for quad coils should check it out. Though I dont like the airflow on this one, and feel id like the one from EH pro better, and would come with screws, but its 3x-4x more in $...

Big Nasty: Worth it. So sexy, so solid, so heavy, great unique battery size that is its only downfall as it doesnt fit well in my charger... but does. Clone should be coming out soon with subtle differences. Feels just like how it looks, a giant well machined maglight that gets you high

U-can: Very solid dispenser, love it. heavy!

Any updates?

Did my first build for concentrates on my trident rda (clone) with the k100 mech mod, using 28g kanthal and xc-116 ceramic wick. Just wrapped a fast and ugly single coil of 5-6 wraps around the xc-116 . Came out around 1 ohm. Results were better than I expected from my first build. Just been dropping pieces of shatter on the coil, can take rips that certainly rival a nail or smaller more manageable hits if desired. Absolutely loving it so far, blows every other pen I've tried (atmos, dr.dabber, gpen, gentleman's,etc) out of the water.

I mostly did this build to try out the xc-116 as I've never usd it before. First impressions are excellent. Very clean, pure taste off of the ceramic, much nicer than silica. Tastes and wicks as good or better then ss mesh without the shorts or hot spots. It can be dry burnt or torched back to bright white with ease. Also, the xc-116 that I used is very easy to work with. Make sure you are using properly heat treated xc-116 (rbasupplies.com) as it doesn't fray at all when cut. I would highly recommend this ceramic wick for use with concentrates.

I'm looking forward to tearing this build out and building dual coils with a slightly lower resistance, but so far this coil is performing too well to change it up. My main worry is that a dual coil, sub ohm build will rip through a LOT of oil.

Yeah, looks similar to 3mm silica wick or ekowool. Don't have a way to get pics up at the moment, but just google xc116 and you will find tons of pics. If you try it, be sure to get properly heat (kiln) treated, not just "heat cleaned" or whatever. I got mine at rbasupplies.com, not sure of other vendors. The non treated stuff frays like crazy when you cut it and seems pretty difficult to work with. The wick I have doesn't fray at all and can even be cut to a thin point for, say, threading through a microcoil. It wicks really well, I dripped a bunch of liquidized concentrate and it easily wicked up everything that dripped past the coil to the bottom of the atomizer.

Thanks for your insights, i wont be rushing into these experiments until i have familiarised myself with ohm+ builds and the in and outs of my mod and rba, I understand the inherent dangers associated with high drain lithium batteries from my rc days. I saw these http://www.herbalizer.com/product/stainless-steel-aromapads-4-pack/ which gave me the idea, but may go back to the carved flavourstone idea from a page or 2 back.

Not sure if you guys are members of the "coil porn" group in facebook, but they have some awesome ideas for different coil builds, micro, firehose, knuckles, double clapton, dodecacoil, quad diamond super nano dragon :p just to name a few. While im not sure as to how any of these could improve our experience, due to my inexperience, they definitely seem to be making inroad to higher vapour production.

I keep picturing some sort of dish of sorts or a cone shape coil to keep the oil in the hot place but will have to get a unit in my hands before i can really start daydreaming about it.

For sure, I just had no way of knowing you were an actually intelligent person or someone like me who has to pretty much guess and check :p I can't wait to see what kind of coils you come up with, I too imagine a basket of some kind. I was thinking of even having a unique coil that gets tighter and tighter towards the end where the oil would be dripping.

As far as your titanium plate, I would love to try a set up that you dry burn the plate for 10-20 sec or so and dunk a ball of wax on there. Use the drip tip attached to the top cap to be used as a funnel...something reminiscent of my hot-knifing days.

im gonna check out the coil group, sounds fun.

I can get a few thicknesses of ti plate, and nearly any size chunk of ally, alloy, stainless steel all the way down to a thick foil as well as a few sizes of mesh and steel rope as my honorary uncle is a backyard machinist/mad scientist and has a good size lathe and lots of scrap bins for me to trawl. So once i have the basics down I will start on the tinkering.

I am interested in the launch box design, how the mesh is the resistance wire. Is that nichrome mesh or can we just zap the mesh? Also, in your wick design above is a layer of oxides all that is stopping the stainless mesh wick from shorting the circuit?

What do you reckon the perfect one hitter temp range would be?

I've been playing around with ecig atomisers for a few weeks now, and one of my attempts was something a lot like your idea of a cone shaped coil - it worked well, if only for a few days. It gets clogged up real quick. Granted what I'm putting through it isn't primo so ymmv if you have a nice clean product.

I took apart an atomiser head for a V-Hit type B atomiser, though any of the "nail" type atomisers will do. you need a pair of pliers to open them up, and sometimes the ceramic cup is broken by the time you get inside, but I wasn't using those anyway.

After pulling the old coil/cup out, you're left with a tube with an airhole and pin right in the bottom. I got some 400 steel mesh and made a tiny cone with a hole in the tip, cut and shaped to rest around the outside of the tube. Then I got some ekowool 3mm, wetted it out and teased it into a cone shape, and lowered it in with tweezers and padded it into place. I then made a coil with some ribbon wire but (oh so carefully) wrapped it tightly over itself so the end product looked more like a watch spring than a coil - careful tugging of either end made it into a spiral.

The coil gets dropped in, the ends of the wick are trimmed, and a hell of a lot of teasing and poking to get everything aligned and making sure the coil is pressing out onto the wick enough and isn't shorting anywhere...

Here's a quick "cross section" pic, though I've shown the entire coil:

vortexcoilcrosssection.jpg

Then there's a cap on top which clamps down on the wick at the top, and hold down the -ive end of the coil to the metal tube.

Looking down from the top it looked like a vortex.

The end result vaped quite well, but got clogged up quick. It sometimes needed a little warmup and a pull on the ecig to pop through any congealed/settled oil, but I never had a problem with any oil coming through the airhole in the bottom or leakage.

Right now I have an origen clone I'm playing with which is a different beast entirely...

IMG_20140205_224756.jpg

...though I've only got PG+menthol flavouring in there at the moment, while I'm figuring out the best coiling method, and the best way to mix my oils (my first attempt was... shall we say, interesting).

Yea just oxide which wasnt even fully developed when i put it on, though i torched it at least 3 times with a butane torch and then a lighter, thinking it would build up carbon more quickly. after wrapping and installing the leads of the coil were glowing way quick and i could see which strand in the mesh it was trying to find its way through. I read someone "pulsing" out hot spots and sure enough little by little more coils started glowing as i tapped on the fire button, then it just started glowing from the inside out all on its own. pretty easy! I did pop a 32ga wire on my second attempt (using 26ga for the one pictured) when trying to get a duel set up, but i think it was due to some slight over tightening of the post screws. It popped before i even had a chance to react and let go of the button.

I would say the most optimum temp lies between 700 and 1000 degrees depending on consistency/type of concentrate, but I'm sure this is up for debate.

How do you like the origen clone? does it really hold any more than a regular dripper? Ive been meaning to purchase one but waiting to see how I like my taifun gt when it arives and how well i can get it to play with EJmix.

It's my first RBA, so I don't really have anything to compare it to. I'm liking it a lot though... Nice vapor production, decent build quality, and the price isn't as off putting as most custom/small run atties.

The wells seem plenty deep, I'm using an innokin ss can/dispenser to hold the juice, so I don't look too dodgy in public filling up with what looks like a hypodermic needle filled with a dirty brown fluid...

Anyone cut their EJmix with any flavors? any recommendations? I ask because my wax's / shatters taste sweetened a bit when just vaping straight ejmix and concentrate, and it's a little off putting vaping all day, as it reminds me of eating those hash jolly rancher things from the dispensaries.

since it was a little thicker in viscosity than i wanted, i added some blue voodoo blueberry flavor that is 0 nic and it tastes pretty good, but sacrificing initial potency even more of course.

Also, for anyone still looking at different types of atomizers, doing this all in a new kayfun lite plus black edition. very easy to build and understand (my first tank atomizer) after a hour of stumbling around trying to get rid of "the gurgle" only complaint I have is that it whistles a bit. Can probably fix. fixed with 20 dollar rotary tool set from harbor freight. even more air now too.

These are surely the next step! http://zh4u.en.alibaba.com

I ike your thinking, but I don't think they'll serve the purpose here quite as well as what we've got. Those ceramic heaters are very similar to the heaters you'll get in soldering irons. They're good heaters, and definitely can be used for vaping - but will require a lot of wattage to heat up, and likely a controller of some sort.

I f you don't mind lugging about a bigger battery, or a mains supply then a design using something like those ceramic tubes would be awesome, but for sheer portability I think our current ecig designs do the job alright.

maybe smaller versions of these ceramic heaters can be had, or for someone to design a suitable heater...

I own a kiln for glass work and have considered making my own ceramic heating elements as I'd be able to fire them in the kiln after I make them ... I just don't know ceramic at all. One of these days I'll look into it in depth and order some ceramic and test it out. If anyone knows ceramic and has suggestions of what type would be good to use I'd appreciate input ...

You could be right These are 3.7v heaters, but appear to get red hot from 4.2v and are available in resistances from .3ohm upwards so with 2x18350s and 7.2v - id imagine it would burn ya hand!. There are 100s of shapes and designs on the site, with custom shapes available too, so finding a small crucible or skillet (they have both of these listed already) that can get to 800c in a second shouldnt be a problem. They require 24watts and No controller is needed, as you choose your resistance. even if they dont work to spot oil, this style could be the way forward for convection herb pens !

The current ecig designs are a mare and not even in the same ballpark as a nail and dome, when all factors are considered , far too fiddly and far too inefficient. I think with experimentation and putting our minds together we can find a better way :)

Milehigh- i dont know if it would even be worth firing up the kiln if you were gonna order enough from china. They are seeming like they will cost 3$ max.

These are undergoing pilot testing in ecig devices right now, with a donut shaped disc heater.
http://www.fatdaddyvapes.com/donuts.html - this guy says he is the inventor but is surely just ordering them from the same ceramic heater factory I am talking to ? 13.99 for 6 is great! Pity about the 12.99 international shipping and my stingey bones which wont pay the same for shipping as for the item itself :p
Someone plz be guinea pig :)

i want to try one of those tubes but they only make sense for dry herb from what it looks like. our version would have to have the resistance wire bundled up around the bottom. the residual heat would spread to the rest of the chamber melting everything down to the main heating element, vaporizing quicker and quicker, just have to come up wtih a way to catch stuff not yet vaporized or a way to atomize it and get rid of it even quicker, perhaps with a bundle of ss mesh???
