But I've seen that temp charts before, just haven't tried it out yet at the low end with the Ascent.
I had a bong hit in the early morning but will try this out starting later: one bowl to rule the day. Let's see if it cuts down my fatigue and usage ;)
I think you will notice a difference. When I first got my Ascent,I was vaping at around 385f and stayed sleepy all the time. I started using the chart and it has turned into my vape bible. 428f at night before bed and you sleep like a baby. Of course when I am sharing,I usually start at 374f and move to 428f just to not hear that they did not get anything. This way after 2 hits all that stops. Also it is important to let it heat back up between hits to reclaim itself. Usually about 30 secs. Once you get the technique down and not worry so much about the clouds especially at low temps. You will love this thing.

The thing for me is, that mj never gets me really sleepy or helps me falling asleep, which has always been an issue to me.. it makes my brain rush and gets me fatigue in the aftermath, but not sleepy.. and this becomes OT. Gonna give it a try.

We are all so different it's good to try different temps. We all have different needs and different things to accomplish throughout the day.

Hi guys, i just bought ascent carbon fiber and i have a 2 quick questions. First Is this normal ?
IMG_3639.jpg

There are 4 hole on the bowl and one of them seems to closed, is this normal?
Also i read use of cotton as a filter. How do we do that ? put materils on the bowl than on the top of that thin cotton ?
Thanks.

Nope, but looks like its just stuck there so try a needle or something and you're fine.

Cotton: on top - or as I tried it once: around the glass flute part.
If it's about material getting in your mouth I prefer the metal screens though.. and hitting it slowly.

thanks for quick reply man. Arent they have quality control or something, how do they miss that? Or am i just overreaction ? :)

With one hole closed you might get better clouds.

i just want to cry that how unfortunate i am.

Try it out. If it works don't worry about it. If it doesn't, get a small drill bit and drill it out. I don't think it is going to affect it much.

It is a quality control issue and you could return or it's a one minute job to drill it out.
It probably works fine with three holes but if it were mine I'd be going down to the workshop.

I go for taste first. I like to start at 320f and get about 5 or 6 good hits at that temp, bump to 338 for a few hits then go to 358 for daytime medication. That usually lasts me until evening. Sometimes I will empty the low temp ABV into a jar to keep for later at night to get the major sedative effects at 365,374,and 428f.

That's about what I do, although perhaps not those exact numbers. I'll hit low for the flavor, then temp-step throughout the night. I keep different containers for different max temp ABV, with a final catch-all for everything taken to 392°F which gets saved not for vaping but for other extraction. I'll usually measure out 0.08g/bowl, but have been know to fill a second one as merited.

I usually vape a pure Indica at 400F+ for sleep purposes. It takes about 30min. after vaping before I start feeling tired and sleepy. Granted it doesn't always work but it seems to help most of the time. I have severe sleep problems and other than meds, which I hate taking, cannabis is the best thing I've found so far. GL.

I vape for pain, so I try to use higher temps, if its not too harsh. I like using a water tool with some of my units. I don't have one yet that I use with the Ascent.

It's been a while since I've been around, about a month it seems.

Other than being busy with life, I was getting to know my Ascent that I got as a Christmas present for myself.

To sum up my experience, if it came down to a choice between my Ascent and someone's life, I'd volunteer the life of whoever tried to take it from me. ;)

This one month review is being written 'cold' not having read any comments in the past month, meaning what I write is more a matter of what I found worked best for me with only a few comments on previously mentioned discussion, which I am sure people will recognize as they are come across.

I received a Pax at the same time and although it was a hard decision as to which was better because they both are for different reasons, the Ascent definitely works better for me so, a buddy of mine found himself the new owner of a like-new Pax.

As for my Ascent, I primarily use it thrice a day, helping my mind achieve a state conducive to problem solving with solutions outside the box, organizing the day's work in a logical progression as well as benefiting from the useful kick of energy all of which I seem to receive at temps between 365F and 380F. That's not to mention the taste! The taste, pretty much is as whatever the smell was of what went in.

Then in the early evening I vape the morning's load at 390F to about 405F and then before going to bed, finishing it off at 425.

I'd usually load and found the best minimum for me to be about two "pinches" and would get a couple of "healthy" cloud producing inhales amongst a few as it cooled down.

From the Pax, I kept one of the zip-lock 'baggies' and filled it about half full with Everclear. Each night, just as I shut it off after the last session of the day, I pull the bottom tube and put it in the zip-lock flared entrance down and spin it around in the alcohol a few times.

Using one of the pipe cleaners I got with the Pax, in a spare set I ordered actually, I'd swab the tube out and having put a pre-bend in the end inserted, which straightens out when inserted but which also returns somewhat to its bent shape to the point of being able to get it to bend on the end allowing one to get into the corners, be swished around to clear the inner face and, I've gotten to the point where I can maneuver the inserted tip of the pipe clear into each of the holes to give their internal faces a bit of a swab as dark material seems to collect around them.

I'm sure that many don't clean it that often but I've got into such a rhythm doing it at the end of each day and it only takes about a minute to do, which is about the time I wait for the ABV to cool down enough to handle it and, since keeping it clean means for much less time needing to be cleaned, I find the time spent each day cleaning it to be well worth it.

On that note, this is where the Ascent stands heads and shoulders above the Pax in that cleaning my Ascent completely takes all of about 2 minutes. A much larger chunk of time was needed for the Pax before giving it to my buddy.

I found that contrary to what I had previously heard concerning packing, not packing at all produced the best results.

Packing effectively reverses the benefits of using a fine grind as packing reduces surface area, while fine grinding is intended to increase surface area so as to expose more material to the heat causing more heat transfer and faster vapor production.

I also found that instead of using glass flowers, which I tried in various configurations, what worked best for me and killed two birds with one stone was, to use the bottom of one of the glass jars as a inverted mold and formed a pipe-screen around the bottom so as to be able to just set it into the oven on top of the material and still be able to pluck it out easily with a Swiss army knife's tweezers.

Not only did it make it easy to keep the material in place but also, prevented material from being drawn up into the lower glass tube, making it easier to keep clean.

As far as screen usage goes, I also used a glass jar as a pattern to cut out a screen for the bottom. I used the same size pipe screen, the smallest available, usually.

I had to 'nibble' off a bit of one end though to be able to fit flush against the bottom instead of being partially supported by the glass-jar standoff that is found at the bottom of the oven off to one side.

I cut it just a bit large so that when I pushed it down in, it wouldn't come out easily. But, not too large that extracting it could possibly scrape the boro-silicate(?) or is it just glass, surface of the oven.

The affect is that the material is bound by screen helping to keep everything even more clean.

In the mornings, I'm mobile but in the evenings, I vape tethered. The lifetime of LiPos is determined by how many MaH (Milliamp/Hours) are put back into them over time.

That lifetime varies greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer but the ones used in the Ascent seem to be on par or slightly better than the batteries that I use with my radio control helicopters, and they don't come cheap by any means.

I don't know that from having taken apart, I know it based on the charge curves I've plotted, which to an extent reflect overall performance and longevity as well.

Long story short, if you can, and want to extend battery life to its absolute maximum, when tethering is available, do it.

On that note, if my Ascent is fully charged when I turn it on while tethered, more often then not it doesn't go into its charge cycle, i.e. vaping seems to be possible using the charger only. Sometimes the battery might go into a very brief charging mode but its been rare rare in my experience.

I did have one brief concerning experience with it once but it turned out to be a trivial thing. I turned it on one time and although it displayed, it didn't go into heat-up mode. I shut it off, put it on the charger, waited a half minute or so and tried it again. It worked perfectly and I haven't had an occurrence since that once.

When vaping, the smell of the exhale is greatly subdued to the point of not being immediately identifiable as compared to the inhaled vapor and dissipates quickly. I wouldn't necessarily try using it in public or a public place with too many people around although I would imagine that some would.

On two pinches and at the upper temps, I can get clouds that although they don't rival the clouds I get from my eGo-C e-cig, they are pretty significant and sometimes, something to cough at. ;)

That's my story anyway and, I'm sticking to it.

That's easy to understand, you're looking at the glaze.....basically a layer of glass. It won't poke... It's one continuous layer.

Small drill is actually good idea. I can use dremel with tiny bit. Thanks bassman.

Bad idea, IMO, you're asking to punch through the side into ceramic instead. The thickness at the bottom is probably much thicker than the sides. Imagine how paint would be? Glaze goes on like that, then is fired on (melting into one continuous film).

It is a quality control issue and you could return or it's a one minute job to drill it out.
It probably works fine with three holes but if it were mine I'd be going down to the workshop.

If you want to chance it drill away, but I agree it should be no big deal with 3 holes. For sure I blocked it more than that with early flower experiments. Your call, of course.

Because my aim from the start was to be able to load using as little as possible, I started out with my Ascent at the lowest amount and worked my way up in quantity until I became satisfied with the duration, i.e. number inhales, the flavor and the vapor content and although I wasn't chasing clouds, I did want a noticeable amount so I could somewhat visually gauge how much I had inhaled.

As I mentioned in my previous comments, at the load that I ended up being the most comfortable with the vapor production that while significant wasn't a rival to my eGo-C eCig.

Well, today, I FILLED the oven.

eGo-C, move over, there's a new cloud buster in the house and YOU, ain't it.

If one wants clouds the Ascent can do it, and then some. At least for me.

If not for you, there is either something wrong with your Ascent and you should contact DaVinci to get it dealt with or, there is something wrong with you in which case send yourself back to wherever you came from and see if you get any service.

On a note I hadn't mentioned earlier, the nicest thing about my Ascent though has to be that it matches the interior of my car.

I've been playing around with morphing software to show a transition of it sitting on a burled walnut center console and then just the console itself.

I haven't come up with anything I'm happy with yet but I'll up it here when I do.

Oh, by the way, with the "two pinch" ovens I have been using I'd get around 10 full inhales with some heating up and cooling off ones in there as well. With my oven full, about 3 1/2 pinches, around 20 inhales.

Since my usual session is only a couple of inhales, even a partial load lasts a long time, for me.

Were I to combust, I would likely have gone through at least as much if not signficantly more than while vaping with the Ascent, I'd say that the Ascent is at least twice as efficient for me as combusting.

That said, I think I've still got a ways to go until I really feel I've got this dialed in but, there is ALWAYS more experimentation needed. :brow:

Have fun Android....enjoying reading your observations.
Thank you!

One thing I haven't mentioned is that I've been vaping various materials including various types of pipe tobacco (Ole Shenandoah Barrel No. 76), cigar tobacco (Cohiba), green tea (Chiba Prefecture Japan) and, other, ahem, adequately dried plant materials.

I was a smoker in the past and I still vape eNic juice but when I tried vaping in my Ascent, not only did vaping tobacco give me some pretty pure flavor from some quality tobaccos and tea, I could experiment more while spending much less.

Also it was pretty easy to switch between the different materials.

With e-cigs, changing flavors generally means changing everything except the battery.

With my Ascent, all I had to do was clean the lower tube, load up whatever I wanted to vape next and go. There seemed to be very little carry-over and whatever had been vaped last seemed to be what it would mainly smell like until the type of material used was changed the next time. i.e. if I vaped the Cohiba grind, it forever smelt like a nice Cohiba cigar afterward, until I would try the tea or pipe tobacco.

Cleaning out the oven, other than a blow-through from each end to clear it of any debris, didn't seem to be needed nor did cleaning the mouth piece tube but then again I use the full-mouth draw method and only use the tube to shot-gun it for someone from the oven side.

Something to consider if one would like it to not only be useful for switching between materials but also make it smell different than it may be desired to smell like at some point in time. ;)

Another thing I learned, vaping green tea is pretty good in the Ascent. Almost no vapor although that is to be expected but, the flavor is rather true to the same tea when brewed. By the way, I've lived most of my life in Japan, I know green tea. ;)

The more I use my Ascent, the more I like it and, find more reasons to like it.

I ordered from DV 2 Ascent gongs on wed and received them today, that's fast service, they came USPS Priority Shipping. The gong is more sturdy than the regular mouthpiece, it has a good feel to it. I think it's a little tighter of a draw, I like that. I really like it!

What type of glass have you or will you mate your Ascent to? Or, have you already posted images of it?

I'm still trying to catch up from not having been around a while so I have some work to do,

I got the gong to use as a mouthpiece, Nigel was suggesting this. I think eventually I want to buy a bubbler at DHGATE.com it's the D020. I have the PWT that I use with my Pinnacle Pro and the Solo.
