Discontinued VapeXhale Cloud EVO

Anyone have any combustion issues with the EVO lately? Since I've got mine back it's been rock steady. Haven't come close to combusting once.

That's honestly my biggest pet peeve with a lot of my friends is they make my vapes combust and then I have to clean glass and stems. Not with the EVO though :)

wait, you're not supposed to combust with this thing? i thought you put the elb in, put a flame to the elb inside the bamboo, and draw from the bottom? no wonder it has a cord...

but seriously, have not come close to combusting either. i vaped some dry sift at the highest setting, and after finishing it, forgot to change the temperature when i switched to some flower. i hit it, and probably about a quarter way through a normal hit, i realized the high temp and quickly cleared removed the evo from the glass and cleared the vapor in the tube. i was so scared i was going to have a charred elb, but i think because my material wasn't super dry, i made it out safe.

I have not reached combustion. At any point. Is this unit supposed to have that ability somewhere along the dial?

The idea is that you shouldn't be able to combust but there are few instances when it might occur:

1. Someone is throttling the intake
2. Really, really dry herbal material
3. If the bowl is left in the male gong joint for a long time and someone take a very fast, hard pull

There are quite a bit of variables involved but under "normal use" it shouldn't combust.

elmomuzz

That just happened...
Overpacking a elb can also cause combustion. It restricts the flow of air through the herb allowing it to get hotter than normal at the base of the elb. It happened to me last evening for the first time in a few weeks. I saw it happen and said f-it and sucked it down. lol

We're here to fuck shit up.
Completely understand what you are saying. However, what I'm saying is that let's say I put an ELB in, and take 5 hits. The 6 hit, I get nothing out, no vapor, nothing. When I pull it out, it's tan. In between hits, I take the ELB out.

Now let's say in between hits I leave the ELB in, and I'm taking the same amount of hits. By the end, I believe this material will be darker material.

Of course, this is all conjecture. I have yet to figure out how to get it to brown all the time, but again, I'm not even sure that's necessary

This has been my exact same experience.

I don't take it out while hitting it.

Load elb, wait a bit before hitting it, then hit it pretty much nonstop until it stops giving vapor production?

No need to wait for vapor production to start back up really. I just hit it until it's done. Not even enough time to take out the ELB, just power straight thru.

Let me take some pix of my next pack and i'll post the results.

Boy, I'm glad I bought this Swagger tube with the EVO. After using a cloud+ for the past month without one, I thought I wouldn't use it much... WRONG yet again Phil. I love this baby. Glad I followed Bob's and ZC's advice. Having this option even though I have plenty of glass is awesome just for ease of use alone.

Also, I agree with the EVO efficiency points here on the air flow design. It does darken my herb much more given the same time and approx temp of the hit. I firmly believe the air temp is more uniform given the same draw. Hard to tell on effect though, greatly depends on material of course. Either rocks me well and I use it till I'm happy. Either makes me happy, but the EVO gets me there just a bit quicker...

I like the metaphor of "functional strength." a cooler EVO may actually outperform a hotter OG due to the fact that it transfers heat to the contents of the ELB more efficiently and more thoroughly.

I have recently had the notion rolling around in my head that in fact ABV color may not have as direct a correlation to "functional extraction" as I have been lead to believe. this idea came to me while I was actually using my Solo. I noticed that when I leave the stem in for the entire session, the ABV at the end of the session gets darker then when I pulled the stem out between hits. however I wouldn't say I got more medicated with the darker ABV, just that it was a subtly different effect. I think I'm actually getting "higher" pulling the stem out between hits. I theorize that the stem I left in between hits got hot enough through conduction to cause too much decarboxylation, converting more THC to CBN than I would like.

it could be that the older Clouds with less turbulence heat the contents of the ELB less efficiently and less evenly, causing a darker but less evenly colored ABV due to the presence of hotter and colder areas within the ELB. as opposed to the EVO which manages to get the entire contents up to the targeted temps, all at once. perhaps less THC is getting converted to CBN because it has already left the biomass and entered your bloodstream, as opposed to the older units that didn't evacuate vaporized cannabinoids from the ELB as efficiently. this might account for the perceived greater medicinal effect. more THC hitting the brain and less CBN?

I have no idea what I am talking about :science:

good points. enjoy :peace:
And remember, the venturi effect increases the air temp (pressure) without effecting the measureable heat of the unit. Only kicks in when air or fluid moves through the chambers. The same physics (the resultant turbulence) stirs the elb contents. I love fluid dynamics.

Agreed, the HT is an indispensable piece. The ease of use makes it a no brainer as it doesn't have any of the annoying unnecessary parts of combustion oriented pieces. I would still like a Ion to use my Evo inverted in.

As promised here is a EVO ABV shot.
I actually could still get a couple more small hits out of it which probably would have kicked it all. I will go for dark ABV and see how long it takes when I'm not super stoned to begin with

This was 10 minutes of nonstop hitting. I shut it off a little early. I could have gotten more hits out of the bowl but this is 10 minutes of nonstop hitting and if I did not shut off the EVO when I did I could have stretched it to probably 13-14 and really turned all of it dark.

Also note this is not a fine grind. This is rough and broken up by hand, you can see the lighter colored ones are actually pretty decent size and unbroken.

This is around 2 oclock

Highyall, here's another variable...

ELBs. Old, fonky ones roast hotter than new ones. At least for me.
No matter how clean I get them, they are significantly hotter than the new ones.

Whatdoyou think?

With an old ELB I'm getting light-roasted coffee colored. Evenly roasted. As am I.
I roast at three.

I have 2 dozen ELBs in rotation, some old, some new. No real difference I can see between any of them except some of the welds didn't hold. Some were manufactured with a slightly thicker material IIRC a long time ago, and there were some snug fits, but I do not remember and have not experienced heat retention differences. I wonder if your old ELBs are coming all the way clean? Have you looked at the mesh under magnification?

Of course there's no way there're 100% or close. The oldest, funkier, as I said above, are hotter.
I prefer the results and no I'm not putting up a pic. I can get chocolate colored easy.

Hello *taps microphone* is this thing on? Hello...

It appears I will be doing that magazine interview... possibly Monday afternoon.

I think a weekend of serious "testing" is needed.

I will take "suggestions" of talking points. Doesn't mean I'll use them. Doesn't mean the reporter won't just grab my biggest verbal derp moment, and misquote the hell out of it, regardless of how many on-point, salient remarks I have.

I agree with @PhotoRider about the HT. I've been using it a lot lately, because of the ease of use, and it gives me both slow long lung busters or short primed full speed chasers.
I'm so amazed by the simplicity of use. I just preload as many ELBs I can take in a sitting. General rule, for example, when I met PhotoRider, I do sets of around 5 ELBs 1/2 full.
-I turn on EVO to MAX and reach green...
-Wait 5 minutes, meantime load ELBs and do some dabs from "the little" glass collection of PR :)
-Bring down temp to 9 or 10...
-Wait for green and run all the preloaded ELBs...
-Up temp to 12, green, run ELBs... some more dabs
-Up temp to 2/3 depending on strain and dryness, stir ELBs, green, and kill the ELBs...
-Finish with dabs :ko: And repeat several times during the night
The EVO is easy and goes with lots of glass :smug:
I've been playing with cotton at the bamboo intake. No more whistle and darker ABV as well. IMO more vapor as well. Just a tiny wisp to not restrict airflow but enough to end the whistle and not get sucked up into the bamboo :science: Trying and trying. Trial and error, the best way to home test anything
BTW, my EVO luckily combust above 3 ,when conditions already explained by VXH team and other members here. Not always, but I don't push it either :myday: I said luckily because I can dab from my EVO, but it gets messy and it takes many hits to finish it.
I think I remember PR doing like 10 clouds from a dab, or close or more. I lost count. It's good to have the option, I can go from 9 to 3 and dab at MAX.
Stay vaped...

My EVO dabbing tips...

Have a clean ELB.
Crank the heat to max, or almost max. Let the heat soak in for a little while.
Put the ELB in and hit it as quickly as you can. IT doesn't last long but you should be left with just a tiny bit of dust or a slight mark of where it once was.

It should be completely disappeared within 3-4 hits.

I agree for mini dabs, but depends on the size and concentrate use. Regular ELB or miniELB, cotton or no cotton, cap or uncapped, inverted or native. So many variables... I totally agree for mini dabs. Gone in 3 hits or less...

Emphasize its usefulness as a MM tool. Its effectiveness and its efficiency both in use and extraction. Especially how it has helped you and your situation and any others you may know of personally.

I'd steer clear of the "fun" aspects...that kind of shit is always used against legalization.

Had my evo for about 5 days now and am really digging it. Its gotten me more stoned than Ive been in a long time. Its got a creeping effect that can be kind of dangerous cause you smoke more and then you realize you didnt need more, and you are now drooling on yourself.
Ive only used it dry, but have a glass piece in the mail now. The taste is phenomenal, best tasting hits Ive ever taken, which is the number one priority to me. Thing is I cant get the consistency in taste and size of hits. The dryness of material, strain, how much I fill the ELB, and temp all effect the outcome of the vapor taste, and density. Im going to have to do a lot more experimenting, which I dont mind at all.
I was wondering if having an ELB that isnt freshly cleaned affects the taste as well, same with the glass piece? How often are you guys cleaning the ELB's?
