Concentrate purity questions

Whats up, I'm relatively new to the dabbing scene just started smoking weed again. I got a pen I use to smoke with and I have a question regarding purity of my shit. Now I live in Miami and I've been smoking medical for a few years now I know the difference between real OG and wannabe shit. With that being said I bought some Girl Scout oil and Some OG oil that was supposedly shipped in from Cali, it smells great. Now I'm a little concerned with the butane in it. I read and saw videos online of people getting a nice little dab lighting it on fire with a standard lighter and if snaps and pops its bad to smoke. This oil I have looks bomb but after letting it sit on the dabber and melt for about 6 seconds from a lighter I hear and see snaps and pops and eventually it catches on fire once it melts. Now I'm not sure if its because I'm literally lighting it on fire (my dabber has turned black) or if its cuz its high on tane. Im hoping its because I'm lighting it for too long if not I just got fucked.

Anyways...heres a link to what the shit looks like.

That looks terrible but you cant judge based just on looks. That being said do tpu have a better quality picture?

Lol everyone around here said it looked great, and I thought that was a good quality shot should I like zoom in or something? The one in the red container is more crumbly but the one on the paper is waxy. I do agree looks can be deceiving i just want to know how harmful the butane would be. It does taste good though. I just think every type of oil is flammable once it gets hot enough because I really let it sit.

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
A bic type lighter ? yellow flame ? no good & not hot enough.... get a jet flame (blue) and you'll likely not get the black 'soot' on your dabber/nail.

With a proper butane jet torch, heat your nail until it glows, let the orange glow deplete, and then hit that dab (Flash Vape), let us know your finding.

Pic isn't quality enough to judge, and even then it's still hard. You could always remelt on a double boiler or hotplate (@100 deg F), spread it thin and further purge it if your suspicious of there still being butane in it.

You really can't judge the quality of a concentrate from the way it looks. I wouldn't try to inhale any concentrate that sparks.

If its under-purged I recommend dissolving it in ethonal or iso, then evaporate it in a large pyrex dish and scrape. The butane should evaporate during that process, if not you might need to make a vacuum pump.

If all else fails you can cook with it, the amount of butane in the oil is negligible. Much safer to eat than inhale

With that being said everything catches on fire... even the purest concentrate will catch fire at a high enough temperature

Well i don't have a rig, thats the issue. I only have a bic lighter, and it only crackles after about 7 seconds. Ive hit it on a rig and it hits perfectly fine. Ive heard all concentrate have butane in it and its really not too bad if its minimal. This i feel is minimal it taste fine.

z9- I dont trust myself working with those chemicals lol and/or processes. Im too new at this. Everyone has said its good shit and I know it comes from a dispensary but that doesn't mean much.

Do a foil test, put a dab on some aluminum foil and heat it from the bottom and if it sparks then there's wayyyyy to much butane in there

You can use the burner on your stove. That gets hot enough as long as you hold it in the blue part of the flame.

Anyway, as was said its hard to judge from a picture, this is true. I stated that it "looks terrible" because Im used to getting stuff like this:

Of course, that doesn't mean the meds you have are bad in any way, shape, or form.

Anyway, from my own experience, I say trust your senses. If it smells okay, and tastes okay, and you don't get any bad effects from using it, its probably okay. Then again its been ages since I've had to worry about low quality oils, so Im a bit rusty there. I think you already have some good suggestions in the replies above, though. Start there.

thanks for all the suggestions the foil thing was awesome didn't spark at all just melted and bubbled a little. I think were good to go.

I like how it turned to real waxy from burning it thru the foil, can I just do this to change the form of all my concentrates? And how much would I lose by doing this?

All they do is whip air into the concentrate to get it into that waxy consistency. You wont really lose much as long as you use very low temps. The stuff I posted above is actually DEWAXED.

ya it looks real nice, I just want to convert it is a lighter too hot to use?

Lol I just tried doing it with like a .5, def not worth it at all i scraped like a.2 off and threw away the rest it was too sticky I think i cooked it for too long. It doesn't seem healthy to me to do that anyways lol.

By low temp, I meant around 110-120°F or so. Preferably even lower and under vacuum. All you did was burn off a bunch of wax while hurting flavor and potency.

Alternatively you can winterize it by dissolving the wax in an Everclear or even Isopropyl bath. Once that is done, evaporate at room temp and scrape up the solidified concentrate.

There are whole threads and youtube videos on how to do this. I suggest not doing any of it if you dont want to put in the research on how to do it properly however.

VapeGriffin, fyi... you cld hv (I beleive), recovered near all by pulse heating the foil and letting it run off back into your jar or alternative surface.

Caligula,... skipped an essential part of winterizing in your quick description... the actual wintering part lol. Are we VAPED ? :lmao:

Anyways, here a pretty good description of the process of winterizing: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/single-solvent-winterization-with-pictures.12124/#post-529793
You can use different solvents to redissolve what you have and following thru with the linked process in general.
