I hope this is a total n00b question, but I've searched google and most of what I can find says for most purposes that RO and Distilled are identical. In lab or extreme immune system compromise then Distilled makes total sense to me.

From what I've read on the forum Distilled seems to be prefered. I do realize that RO doesn't remove 100% that isn't H2O, aren't the close enough in a water tool?

I have no desire to de-rail the thread so please just message me if there is something I should read about this.

Just looked up RO (reverse osmosis) and I dunno. Guess it's just preference? I saw distiller water for under a dollar for 2.5 gal, it seemed like a reasonable purchase at the time. Not even halfway through and I change water in my glass daily and sometimes more often. Talk about first world problems :lol: whatever works/you like best! I only use tap water when I want hot water, but I also store my glass dry. Man, typing it all out makes me sound really OCD. I haven't even mentioned my weekly ISO washes and twice a month PBW wash yet ;)

Distilled will have 0 ppm (parts per milliliter) of dissolved solids, RO water will have 25-40 ppm of the dissolved solids, and regular tap water usually has around 220-250 ppm. R.O. is only going to remove molecules that are bigger than a water molecule opposed to everything in distilled. In reality RO should be fine but in terms of preventing mineral build up on glass it's a better idea to choose distilled especially if priced the same. 0% just beats 1-10% given the cost is the same unless you already have a RO setup.

I buy about a gallon per week of this stuff because I refuse to let one drop of my well water ever touch my glass. Just the other day I found a better price for it, $0.76 at WinCo Foods... that should save me about $5 a year, woo-hoo! :rockon:

Ya, I've had an RO setup for years that I use for a Fish Tank and general drinking water. Open a tap in the kitchen vs. carry bottles from store... I'll go with my kitchen :). The only thing I don't like is my setup is an older style. For every gallon of 'product water' I get four gallons down the drain. Just feels wasteful, but not sure it's any worse than the energy needed to create distilled. Newer RO systems are MUCH more efficient.

If you don't have an RO setup then totally agree Distilled bottles from store is the way to go.

Today was the scary day....

... my Fanatic HT got its first bath with PBW. Rinsed with distilled, then carefully refilled with fresh distilled/cranberry water. Shines so pretty :)

[Up until today, I was just rinsing and refilling)

Keeps resin from sticking to your glass . . . Using my HydraTube Flush device and hot water, I have not had to PBW mine yet . . . :)

Just to be clear...I rinse my glass with water every day I use it . I also use fresh cranberry extract every day, (4-6 drops depending on the piece). Some FCer's will keep the water & extract in their glass for days. That's okay, but you need to watch for the little creepy crawlers starting to grow in the fruit bath. :o

So, because of this stuff, I wash my glass once a month now instead of every two weeks.

Like I said...pretty good stuff...recommended. :nod::tup:

P.S. It lasts long too. Still on the first bottle after months of use. Don't get Rez Block though...there are cheaper solutions...just check through this thread.

Yeah the Nature's Answer Cranberry Extract (NACE) or Botanic Choice are much better cost wise and work just as well. I'm using Magnascent iodine (1 drop per batch) to keep the creepy crawlers down . . .

@t-dub: question not related directly to PBW but to clean glass, or maybe just thoughts out loud.

I've been using my Solo almost exclusively since I got it. I've settled on two extra fine screens on the bottom and some domed screens to reduce bowl size. I've got a little bit of cotton in my female-female adapter, and use distilled water exclusively. My glass has stayed incredibly clean for some reason. Very very little resin building up even without RezBlock or cranberry extract. Somewhat odd to me... I know it's not the strain because I've ran a half dozen or so through it now. Maybe the cotton?

Anyways I did a PBW wash on it last week like usual and it came out sparkly clean. Couple hot washes and some good rinsing with some ISO and a water rinse. Pristine glass is something beautiful :)

I just got my PBW and BC cran in the mail, looking forward to joining the sparkling glass club!

I'm having problems getting the dab splatter off the inside the can of my d020. First 30 minute soak got rid of water spots with no affect on the dab splash, so I did a 4 hour soak, which didn't seem to make a difference. I'm using the recommended concentration and boiling water, and the trouble spot is staying submerged the whole time.

My d020 is about a week old and the trouble spot is from 2 dabs I took when I first got it. I've tried overnight hot iso soaks, salt/iso shaking several times, and I've been rinsing daily with hot tap water.

Am I missing something or is elbow grease still inevitable (for a one week old piece, personal use!!)? And has anyone tried anything stronger, like oven cleaner etc?

Try multiple 5 minute soaks instead. I'm guessing the reason they work better in some cases is that the water stays as hot as possible.

Oven cleaner is a viable option but BEWARE it is caustic and under pressure!!! It wlll probably work well but protect yourself . . . please report back if you try it.
