The Lotus Vaporizer

Man, no matter what flame length I set my Fancy Honest torch, it still sputters, wavers, and most annoyingly - varies in flame length constantly (going between half and full length).

Makes using The Lotus a little too difficult to be enjoyable.

I don't think he replaced it, he got fed up of the buddhas problems, the same happened to me. Plus, he might not leave it on like you do and the buddha is more difficult to setup.

Butane lasts me two days in my smallest lighter and i think it is more convenient and MUCH faster to light a torch than plug it in, wait for it to heat, etc etc.... and this is considering your buddha is on already.

The DBV is great but has some anoying flaws, the more anoying considering this unit was never improved. Plus, in the end, it has to be the best vape for you.. which the DBV clearly is, for you.

I think he did the right decision tbh. :)
I suppose I'm lucky, I can just leave my Buddah out on my desk 24/7 so I can always take a quick hit. If I had to constantly hide the vape after usage, I probably would stick to the Lotus (+WPA + nice glass bong). I can imagine it's even that much better for home use with the WPA. :)

Speaking of which...I need the WPA!

I decided that I'm only hairs away from having a glass piece to go into the lotus. So I tried to get my PVHE gong to go in it but its a hair to fat. Next I thought of drilling the bottom of the lotus's metal ring a hair wider but I didn't like that idea either. So i ended up removing the bottom metal ring and using the PVHE gong with an o-ring right into the lotus. The results were amazing.

The lotus is a completely different vape than both of those. I would say the pax is a def a sesh vape, but I dont have any experience with the firefly.

I always liked to leave my lotus in the car because if I wanted to, within a matter of about 10 seconds I could blow out a MASSIVE cloud that would have me good for an hour or two. You can session with it or just take a rip on the go no problem. The fact that it cools down so quickly is also awesome so you can just throw it in your pocket and your good to go.

Made an account just for this, is the Lotus better than the pax and or firefly? Im selling my solo for something more portable but then i saw the lotus and no battery just makes me tingle inside.

I think the lotus hits much better than the pax. However it is fire powered, which means it is a) not very discreet and b) difficult to use outside in sunlight (flame becomes practically invisible) or in anything above a light breeze. You can use the pax one-handed, though you can't say the same for the lotus.

if your looking for portability and stealth, go with the pax. If your able to sneak off or go out to your car get the lotus. I felt completely comfortable using my pax in the grocery store...the lotus not so much. Because your using a torch lighter, inhaling, and spinning the lighter in a circle it can honestly look like your trying to hit a crack pipe and with people that dont know any better that is probably what they will assume.

Would you say the pax is worth the extra $ for the portability?

I dont really want to turn this thread into a pax VS lotus so Ill end it by saying this.

If your an on the go adventurer like me and just want to vape just about ANYWHERE at any time, go with the pax. All the people that complain about the cleaning involved with the pax are just completely lazy. I never had one problem with either of mine and would clean as often as I would my glass pieces, after about 4 or 5 uses. It also would only take me about 5 min at the most to completely clean my pax spotless.

If you want somthing that isent battery powered and has little to no chance of breaking and delivers MASSIVE clouds, go with the lotus. I would recommend the lotus only for home use or those times when you sneak off and use it when no one else is around (hallway/bathroom/car)

For me, conduction vapes have proved to be herb hogs, I just need to load more to get me where I want to be and the clouds are not so tasty or so potent from start to finish. The Solo is a good medium, conduction + convection if you use the stem and you leave it in the Solo between hits or almost full convection if you use a Vapor Lung and remove stem between hits. When I had my Solo I mostly used it through the VL to avoid much conduction heating. It still went through my herbs very fast to give me satisfying hits though...
When I had a Pax for testing it was even worse. Too much herb to get a satisfying hit and the taste went down pretty fast, after the first hit maybe. And the cleaning was a pain compared to the Solo... Then the Lotus came and everything got into place. :D
Taste now depends on what I put in there and how I hit it, only. The vape is virtually invisible and it gives you ultimate control over hit density, heat, taste, potency, duration, just like any good tool should. No problems with hitting in in the sun here... It has become second nature to control the heat, no need to watch the flame, a couple of test puffs while heating it and you get enough feedback to have a nice hit. When it's windy it's kind of bothersome but for me it's very rare to vape in a windy situation. For those moments or when I need to go one hand or silent, I have ordered myself a Firefly, a very expensive back up... But I don't see it anywhere near replacing the Lotus as it's relatively high maintenance, it's a power hog and very expensive and fragile compared to the Lotus! The Lotus is the one to get for sure...
Then you can get a couple of vapes for special scenarios... It all depends on your usage patterns actually. If you vape at home all the time and cash is not a problem you might even be better with a Herbalizer, right?

The only advantage of conduction IMO is that there is more CBN being formed and the high is more sedative which some might enjoy.
Other than that it kills the terpenes which is why the flavour goes away quickly and terpenes also potentiate the effects of THC so there is that as well.
Not to mention the less efficiency due to the constant heating instead of the hot air passing through.

Plus, the Solo has a faint electronic taste that is easily identifiable when you compare a vape with a pure airpath with a Solo. I don't like that.

Pure airpath + convection heating ensures a better experience and a more efficient extraction.

The Lotus achieves this with a simple and pratical design.

The Vapocane or the Gn0mes achieve the same for example, but it is much less pratical and not nearly as fast.

And when you go to battery powered, only the FF is close to it. And the price is almost 3x more. So, if you don't need the discretion of a battery, the decision is easy.

It is like i've been saying, the Vaponic and now the Lotus have changed the way i look at vaporizers and their worth in terms of price/experience.
The only thing they don't have is what becomes less important as you become a more experienced vaper: automatic temperature control and regulation.

Could be the butane, what brand are you using?
Colibri.

It's annoying because sometimes I can get the lighter to work perfectly for a session - and then next session when I'm trying to show a friend, it likes to become a pain in the ass :p
When my jet torch lighter starts to be a pain in firing up consistently I find bleeding out trapped air/propellent almost always resolves the issue. I don't use their stuff however xikar folks created this yt video that starts off showing how to bleed the air in case there is interest:

If I were to host a vapor flavor from botanicals contest I would hand every judge the Lotus. Anyone judging botanicals needs to get all the taste and flavor nuances possible and I can't think of anything that does this better than the Lotus (at the moment anyway).
steama - I feel you are exactly right about the Lotus function and performance. Yes, I love my Solo, and it has great flavor properties... but, the Lotus surpasses it in the flavor category by a bit...not by much though. The Lotus is easy and fun to use, and very simple to maintain. I carry it in my pocket broken down in two pieces, or leave it whole & loaded no problem. The trick for me was getting a good lighter to work as it should. Once I found that the rest was gravy! Enjoy!

EDIT: By the way, I also vape tincture evaporated in 100% cotton tufts. No cellulose burn, just fresh flavor from start to finish - and VERY POTENT head-wise!

how much for a custom wpa, freakin sweet!
Thanks, that wpa-hack is still my preferred 18mm wpa because it is one piece and fits most of my glass.
ZCfzubc.jpg

It was easy to make: used one of these diamond cut wheels with dremel to remove the narrow tip (half-end) of the 14mm male GonG joint (from a 14mm male-to-18mm male adapter) so it would serve as a herb bowl and fit inside the Lotus vapor cap to similar depth as the stock wpa/stem bowl fits the cap. Then fire polished the wheel cut rough glass with a vector torch. The inside bottom of the shortened 14mm male joint (bowl) has a slight lip making it easy to fit a little screen and have it stay put, doubt all are like that so may be hit or miss next time.

@Max Jitter Is there an all in one unit being planned for the future? Something with ultimate portability, built in torch, lotus plate tech, glass vaporpath...just a few things that come to mind :)

Nothing beats the lotus for quality, would love something that's truly on the go, since this one is tough to use out of the house, and outside in direct sunlight. Thought about trying the firewood, but I don't like "sipping" vapor like with the mflb.

Unison, glass vaporpath yes, built in torch... no.

That seems against the Lotus simplicity essence in my humble opinion. :)
I just know I don't want to mess with a torch while I'm out and about, plus the Lotus could have a cool design, where it comes apart in pieces (for easy cleaning/main thence/replacement parts), and a torch part could be interchangeable. Or, we could have a different heating element all together (I just love the vapor PRODUCED by the torch...night and day to other vapes of its size). The device would still appear to be very simple, with lots of cool stuff going on behind-the-scenes... kind of similar to the Lotus we have now when you really think about it ;-)
