@Caligula did you make that video with the mobius ion ? I thought you were taking a dab for a sec.. What was in that bowl ?? Level 7 I'm assuming ? I have the exact same setup minus the 14mm gong ( 18 here) and I have gotten cloudy results but nothing on that level.

I have a matrix bubbler but its not a Mobius sadly. However I did post up a video with it and yes thats at level 7.

The Ion vid above is with combustion and I didnt make it.

One of my favorite setups is Ed's Gong (with a couple mods) and the F-BOMB.
I now prefer the FB over the PWT for the more resistance which, IMO, is really needed with Ed's stems.
The setup is very robust for using glass.

Now like I said I did have to do a couple things to get it working to my personal satisfaction. I had posted before about installing a thumb hold for removing the tube while using and at the end of session.

EDStemMod4_zps3d257bac.jpg

This solved that problem quite nicely. However, I found I had to run the Solo 1-2 levels higher with the stainless steel bowl. Actually ending on 7. I suspected this was due to a couple things one being the draw was almost non-restrictive. Note the slot size of the cut grooves around the bottom on the picture above. As with many things this restriction is very subjective to the individual's tastes. For me, I like the restriction as tends to give larger clouds. To the point I found I was hardly using Ed's stem. Decides to do what I seem to do with everything. And this time, took it down a notch. Or 0.75 mm in this case.

EDStemMod8_zps68d0e8a0.jpg

Note the new depth of the cut grooves in the picture compared to the previous picture. Not a huge difference and hard to see but originally the groove depth was about the same or slightly more than length of the slot (square). After filing it's about 3/4 the depth. Made quite a bit of difference for me and may have taken it down a bit more if it wasn't for I had to thin out my previous mod because of the lower fit and pretty much out of room.

Thought I'd throw this out there in case others have the same fetish for draw restriction.

Oh, the plug at the top of the FB holding the bent glass tube is made from silicone paste which is used for making molds. Cures nice and firm. Goes around the inner and outer top and acted as a rim shield if it falls over.

I ended up dulling the jagged glass by rubbing it across a hard rock, and essentially smoothed it down. It still packs, still fits in the Solo, and still hits rather well.

Unfortunately, that's not the end of it. Glass is funny stuff, 'almost solid'. Stresses (like as it heats and cools) will collect at the flaws in that jagged edge and will probably result in cracks and more problems down the road.

What you want to consider is "fire polishing". It's the original 'finish' on the stem (both ends) before the diamond bit cuts. Nice, smooth, rounded surfaces. Flaw free. To do this you need a fairly powerful torch. Like you'd use foe a nail. Heat the glass slowly, down half an inch or so so it doesn't shatter as you concentrate the heat on the shattered lip. Keep moving. Eventually you'll get yellow glow happening from the sodium in the glass. Keep going, but keep the yellow on the edge. Keep rotating and moving to avoid hot spots. You want the whole lip enough for the sharp edges to blunt......all at one time. Then, before it changes shape, let it air cool for 4 or 5 minutes.

There's no doubt UTube stuff on it, it's easy to do if you're careful.

Good luck with it.

Just heated up the Solo for a session... immediately upon turning it on, I heard a sizzling/crackling/hissing sound. Turned it off right away, removed the stem, and realized it's probably the alcohol and/or water I had cleaned it earlier with.

I squeezed out the excess water and alcohol prior to using it on the Solo, but I'm sure a few drops still got in there... is that likely to be the culprit? The sizzling sound lasted for roughly a minute or so, before getting quieter and quieter, and now it's gone. The vape smelled like baking cookies for a second, but again that smell is now fading, and the smell coming out is standard vape smell.

Should I have any concerns? Any reason NOT to continue vaping, or can I safely attribute it to the alcohol and/or water, and continue vaping as normal?

I'm currently running it through a dry-run on temp. 7.

Just want to make sure I won't harm myself via using it again. I sincerely doubt I would, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

**edit: FWIW, I'm currently doing a second dry-run, and I hear no unusual sounds.**

***edit pt. deux: going to attempt a session. If you don't hear from me tomorrow, assume the worst...! (I kid, I kid).***

Just pulled my Solo M107 out of its Pelican 1120 case and fired it up. Its been awhile. I'm in bed with a fresh stem taking huge tasty rips. Love my Arizer Solo. Going to have to go through this thread and get refreshed on new mods, products, techniques, etc.

First video is of hits with the stock, straight stem.
Second is of hits with the PVHES.

The PVHES may have lost a little something after it's accident, but not much. Still think it takes the cake in terms of vapor production.

Your guys thoughts...?

Well, folks... after a third session with the chipped PVHES, I'm beginning to realize that there has been a somewhat significant dropoff in vapor production. The vapor is certainly thinner, and I think a lot of that has to do with the altered airflow due to the chips. I do still believe it's on par with the stock stem, perhaps **slightly** better, but not significantly.

I'm holding out hope for one last thing, though... and that is that I have yet to pack a BIG bowl since the break. This is partially out of necessity, but also me choosing to pack a bit less. I'm going to fill up a massive bowl (as much as I can fit) and see if I can get some big clouds. If I do, then I'll be in good spirits! If not... well, I'll be visiting PlanetVape within the week.

**edit: btw, I survived last night, as you can obviously tell.**

I got the M1D and notice only a little difference in air flow and thickness. The stems fit a lot tighter than my M1A which is good for the person I'm giving it to, but I like a loose stem so I can control air flow a little better.
The M1D seems to heat up quicker than my M1A, but I could be mistaking since my M1A hasn't worked for a couple months.

So, at the recommendation of some in my "how to add the spark again..." thread, I vaped a small amount of "nighty-night" tea (http://www.traditionalmedicinals.com/product/nighty-night-reg) at temperature level 2. It produced a obviously sedating effect, but not significant. I did certainly notice a bit of a mild buzz as well... not entirely pleasant, somewhat nice, far from horrible.

Afterwards, I vaped some cannabis, going from temp. 2-4. I packed a larger amount, that was overflowing from the bowl, but managed to fit in when I compressed it with my finger. Note here that I'm using my slightly broken PVHES. I will say this: the leftover taste from the tea I had just vaped was **GREAT** -- very tasty. Had a lighter, fruity taste to it. The clouds were rather big. Definitely better than this morning, and I'm sure it's a result of using more pot in there. I'm much less concerned about the feasibility of using the PVHES going forward... feel like it's adequate, and I'm not feeling any pressure to get another PVHES anytime soon. I will try the original two stock stems just to cover all my bases, but I doubt I'll be using either one regularly.

I also will be vaping some holy basil (tulsi tea) later this evening, and perhaps some other sedative, nighttime tea. Will let you guys know how it goes.

I have a M1B solo and just received my straight PVHES. ITS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ITS LIKE A BRAND NEW VAPE. (My solo had been suffering from lack of O rings)

Unfortunately I am going to sell this solo and buy a new M1D hopefully as the battery life on this one is shot as well.

I also received a GonG adapter and will be trying that out in an hour or so!

Hang on... A new battery is much cheaper and can almost double your sessions... Plus super easy to do it yourself. Easy on the wallet :)

Vaporizing cannbis, holy basil, green tea, and orange peel zest right now, again working from temperature 2 through 4. Using the PVHES.

The clouds took a bit to get going due to the orange peel, I'm sure, but they're big now. Tastes real nice -- but I'm not a fan of the orange. A bit too bitter. Definitely like the sweetness of the holy basil, and the affect is real nice. Fully expect to sprinkle this on bowls occasionally.

Agreed just buy the replacement battery pack. It will probably get better life than a new one.

I wonder if the new M1D2 I have, or any of the aftermarket battery packs like the ones made & sold by members here, use newer batteries with lower internal resistance because my solo seems to run hotter? i love it! i love my solo more than ever.

So I got my stem screen situation optimized. Set up a domed screen that went up halfway up the bowl (I flattened the top of the dome), then set a flat basket screen that sits on top of the flat part of the domed screen. Result is a little less than 1/2 stem load now. With a nice grind I can clear the load in three big hits with my bubbler. Easy enough to take out and put back in if I want to go back, or I can just use my other stem. My 18mm PVHES gong shipped Thursday so I'll probably move the basket setup to that. Also dropped a big screen into my female-female and put some cotton on top. Now I don't have to mess with cotton in the stem and can have something to vape here and there :)

What temps do you vape at? I found that grinding well and heat soaking get me incredible clouds with my Solo (M1B1). I can get a great extraction even at 3. Experimenting more with grind I've found that finer seems to work better for me across all levels. The higher temps get ridiculous, definitely capable of making you sweat a little ;)

I have had 3 solos.

My first was a M1B. I always always always ran it at 6. Even with a lightly packed load it just was perfect at 6.
My second was a M1C1 and I thought the same thing.
However my M1D2 runs much hotter than both the other two have! With a fine grind and light pack I can get actual sizeable hits when it's only at 2 or 3! 6 i have only done a couple times for more stubborn strains. I have been finding "4" treats me like "6" did on my otheres.

So I've ran into some problems with my PVHES GonG, its waaaayyy too loose. If I turn my Solo upside down, the stem falls out.
I tried to put an o-ring in there, but my Solo has the thicker cap so I can't screw it back on.
Any suggestions?
Or should i just get the regular WPA?
Even though I can't use the PVHESGonG properly I feel like the new Solos have good enough airflow.
Anyone compared the two?
