Been using my DV a lot for the last few days after a long break and I don't really remember why I boxed it up and put it away. That won't happen again for a long time to come!

I do really like the DaVinci, still a killer vaporizer IMHO. Small sips to big rips, great extraction with decent taste and I have always been satisfied with its performance.

I also have a snorkel that has lasted through a lot of use and agree with @KidFated. if you take care of the mouthpiece it will last. I know I've bitched about broken flexistraws but now take a little extra care with it.
I do take it off to load or dump the abv also stopped stowing it away with the stem in. I kind of have a rule now and its like if the DV is heating with bud the mouthpiece is on, once DV is cooling down the MP comes off.

@Dreamerr I've had a 2013 DV for a while it's much easier to Load, Dump or Clean if you take the Flexistraw off then the OG DV, it was a real PITA for sure. Can get pretty hot especially if you stretch out a session, I'm ok with that because I just set it on a table when done not on my lap or in a pocket since I'm using around the house not out on the go.

I still love my DaVince after well over a year. It was the first vaporizer I ever bought and it definitely helped me quit combustion (combined with the wife's solo :>). Right now it sits one behind my new Flashvape and one before my Iolite in my lineup. I bought the extended snorkel early on and still have my shorty original both still in good shape and not broken.

Cool.

Sure can't argue with a guy who knows what he wants and makes it happen on his own. Most fall short of this on one or both counts.......

I'm glad you're happy with it, it's a useful tool indeed. Time to enjoy it some more.

Thanks for posting.

JB Weld is nontoxic when fully cured. Plus, the amount of epoxy used would be so small that any supposed danger from continual inhalation would be insignificant. It's relatively more dangerous just breathing the indoor pollutants in your house during the winter with all the windows closed.

In any case, I fully understand the aversion that one might have in using it for this particular purpose.

ye i looked at the FAQ of jbwel and it says exactly that. It non toxic when fully cured. Right now its working pretty good because the meal part under neath the straw came out and i just permanently keep it screwed in. All i have to do is just twist the mouth piece on the metal and voila! it works and doesnt really fall off if I am carefully with it. Being occasional smoker this is working for me and i will most likely buy a new straw when impulse strikes.

The reason mine broke was not cuz i was holding the unit by the straw or anything. Its cuz I smoked nut meg in the davinci and nut meg has some serious gooey tar in it. (maybe because i cooked it at a high temperature i forget what temp now ...) so the tar ended up somehow getting in the threads of the mouth piece screw and where it screws on. I left the mouth piece on and after it cooled down i tried taking it off and it didnt screw off but the whole mouth piece came off the screw component (porbbaly because the tar hardered after it cooled). So i bought some iso and cleaned the mess was gone from the nutmeg but i was left with this borken straw mess. O well still love the unit. Pretty good for when i am at a seesha bar and discretely want some hits with my friends too. No body every finds out :)

Ok, now the DaVinci has moved back to the first position in my portable line up. After using the HA and Vapo2 for a while I started just dropping(shoving) little nugs or pellets into my portables. The DV is the only one that thoroughly vapes anything I put in the chamber and the taste is amazing this way. It seems to make the most of the convection properties of this vape.

All said IMHO not grinding is the way to go and how a vaporizer performs with a nice whole bud is going to be all important in what I look for when considering a new vape purchase.

PEACE.

So I just joined the group of Davinci owners yesterday but I had 2 questions about the product.

First it doesn't seem like the lid closes entirely, it's not a perfect fit and I could see right through the device with the exception of the hinge, edge of the lid, and the part that holds the screen (This is the newer magnetized lid). Maybe I could attach an image, but is this normal? It's a pretty close fit, but not completely closed and I would think it might not be so efficient and leak out, or cause other issues with the draw resistance.

The other thing is the plastic/rubber smell hasn't gone away, I've tried running the device dry through 3 charges on it's highest setting and it still smells awful to the point where I don't want to use it yet for it's intended purpose.

ehcual the lid doesn't look completely sealed but won't leak vapor.

The "new" smell will go away if you don't store it in the foam packing material it came in. I wouldn't keep burning it in empty. Use the DV and you'll like it.

Would you guys still recommend picking this up over an Ascent? Or is it just worth it to pay the 50 more. Keep in mind I could potentially pick up a Da Vinci for 140 brand new from my LHS. 30% FTW.

How does this do concentrates? Not worth it for those? I would use this primarily with herb, does it pack as much as a solo or closer to a Pax?

So the top screen (the little one on the top section of the bowl under where try mouthpiece threads) is slightly broken out of that position. Any ideas on replacing it? (Was gonna just use cotton for now).

Unclear which screen you mean as there are two in there, one immediately under the mouthpiece and another right at the top of the oven. If it's the mouthpiece one then that's not so important but not sure if I'd use cotton unless you like the taste of cotton vapor. If it's the one that is held in place by the screw on silver cap (touches the top of the oven) then I would just swap them for now. Keep them clean (burn em' while holding them with tweezers or wash with ISO) and plan to replace them once in a while. You should be able to pick some spares up at any head-shop on line or locally or from DaVinci themselves. Good luck and happy vaping :>)

@Pcpvapors buy some screens at a lhs and cut to size, cheaper then buying them, from da vinci. and keep that top section clean for better taste, hows it going?

It's the top screen for the oven, as far as I can tell. I'll grab some screens and let ya know how it goes! Thanks for the replies.

@SirDarkened welcome to the DaVinci family.
No, I dont think your DaVinci is defective.
The first version of the Davinci had the click lock lid and went to 430°F. The newer DV2 has the magnetic close lid and goes to 405°F. Hope this helps. Let us know how you like it.

Why would they do that? Wouldn't that hurt vapor production for concentrates?

Im sure it does in some respect.
I think they lowered the temp to improve overall longevity of the unit. I believe the extra heat was causing them to fail. I'm not a 100% on that, but that's what I think.

I was able to use it for three sessions last noght. The plastic taste is there but it it not horrible.

My unit appears to not fully charge but it lasts for >3 sessions before dying so maybe it doesn't matter much.

Will continue fiddling. A full pack is really solid though. Nice sized clouds.

Unit gets hot but then again its supposed to get hot so whatever.

Cutting the straw down ended up being a decent fix for my straw issues. I just replaced it at the beginning of January and it came apart *again* (no, I don't use it as a handle, and no I don't crush it in my pocket, I only unscrew it if it has been thoroughly heated by a vape session, so it isn't resinned into place, I don't know how I could've been "abusing" it). I did start using it with a third lung/ vapor lung, but I hold the bottle straight up and down over the device while i pull the bag to draw, and I carefully unscrew the bottle from the lid (which I leave on the top of the mouthpiece, so I am not manipulating the straw very frequently to avoid distressing it, so I am not bending/twisting/squashing/pressing it to damage the straw).

This time, instead of going out and buying another straw, I took some sharp scissors and cut the stem weaving and all down until it was just long enough to get silicone all the way down into the screw-in metal gasket from the mouth piece. It pops off, because I don't have any adhesive that can safely take those temperatures (320*-385*), but I can use it with a third lung aka vapor-lung to avoid hot lips/vapor issues and if it pops up, I can slip it back into place with ease.

DaVinci still has issues with charging, but as long as I am vigilant about double checking that the battery indicator is animated when I plug it in, life is grand (provided I keep my charger on hand to re-charge when and where I am when it decides to kaput from one to four sessions on a given charge). If it doesn't animate, I will always make sure the charger "nose" didn't bend at an angle from the cord (besides, the wires inside the cord seem to be fine), and the nost still fits into the charger port correctly, so I don't know why it doesn't always charge, but I adjust until it does.

@GeekyGodiva get rid of it and search the classifieds and you can find some really good plug ins cheaper then you paid for the dv.

The advice is appreciated, but it was a gift originally and it still *does* work, so I have a bit of an issue selling it. Plus, I feel I have the patience still to deal with it's quirks and would feel bad sending a temperamental vape into the world where a fresher newb might not be able to make the best of it. My biggest problem now is just keeping the unit from smelling, even with iso washes every 4-5 days and frequent screen cleaning the unit smells like stir-fried cannabis from a distance of 10 feet some days.

Got 4 uses out of it before it turned off.

Temperature is variable correct? It changes as you use the device.

The battery indicator is whack, never really is acurrate but the unit works incredibly so who am I to complain.

Yes the temperature is manually controlled using the +/- buttons located on the front of the Davinci above the heater power button.

No I meant. Set temp 375.

Then it says "actual" which fluctuates between 370-377 it sometimes will skyrocket to 390 for a second once I change the temp from lets say 365-375.

It never seems to actually stay at the temp I set it or near it. The unit will turn "green" 10ish degrees before the actual temp is reached. But it will continue increasing until the desired temp. That's normal yes?

That is normal the temp display fluctuates a lot, its the temp somewhere around the heater as it cycles not the temp of the herb. Most digital displays I've seen on vapes do the same. The "actual" is for the battery level when the main switch is on without the heater engaged (that's how I see it).

Most digital temp and battery level displays seem to be sort of plus or minus in accuracy.

Keep in mind that as you draw, you are cooling the chamber, it would be really difficult to maintain the heat from a hair drier in the middle of a windstorm. It tries to compensate, and so it dips and rises. The jumping up MANY degrees is because while you hold down the temperature button, nothing is working to dampen the heating element (because all of it's brains are focussing on what you are telling it to do next, just a quirk of the design), so it just keeps getting hotter until you let go of the degree setting button. This is even true if you are trying to lower the temp.

I just turn off the go button when I ramp up or slide down the temp, to avoid possible accidental scorching, then hit the go button again when I have set the temp. It doesn't take any time at all for it to reach the new temperature, so I don't mind taking a moment to do the settings with the element off.

Thanks for your feedback!

I have found this device kicks ass!

I've gotten a good 15 sessions in and when its fully packed and ready to go man how I love this unit.

Can be used while charging so battery wasn't an issue.

I can't wait to try concentrates in this thing.

My only issue is the unit seems to smell obviously funky but a smell proof bag fixes all of that.

Tha whip was tha most smelly part ime, when tha unit was cold. I left my unit on my desk, and hid tha whip in a waterproof box.
