Discontinued VapeXhale Cloud EVO

thanks exit! really making me drool! sounds like all the latest evo's are all working flawlessly as intended. Haven't heard of any combustion reports recently. Was that due to the bamboo cracking?

Are you saying you just ordered and 4 days later you had it? So there is no more wait and VXL is caught up or am I mistaken?

I ordered on the 20th and a friend ordered on the 20th. I don't know the status of his order but I've been hitting mine all day and I think it's a good improvement from the OG Ticker and i am very happy I got it. I can post when I hear from him but I can't speak for VXL.

AFAIK the combustion was because the cracking and overheating which is what they fixed. I vaped a little bit on max temp no combustion. Don't worry about it i say.

Just got my package. Have to say I'm a little less than thrilled, as I was expecting receive more than 2 ELB's with it considering their disposable nature - and one of them came squashed! I also didn't get any wrist bands, so I guess I'll need to figure out my own anti-burn solution. I also really wish that the bottom was low enough we could put rubber feet on it to stop it from sliding around... it's so light the smallest cord movement moves it.

I'm seriously considering judging the feasibility of transplanting the EVO into my old Cloud body, but I don't want to open the EVO just yet. Something tells me I'll be in there soon enough.

And this fucking whistle, ensures I'll never be able to use it when other people are home or at night, which is a problem considering that's when I use it most.

I'm hoping I start warming up to it, and that the vapor makes up for the issues. But right now I don't feel very satisfied with my purchase.

I'm hoping the vapor production makes up for these issues, and that my new Cloud does not suffer from the issues that were experienced earlier. I'll keep everyone posted.

Make some feet out of these!

If not there is always someone who makes rubberized feet specifically for Vapexhales on shapeways I think.

Personally I like how easily movable it is and that's why I got it, but also because you can heat it enough to do a whole session not plugged in :)

Sorry to hear that. This sounds a lot like my beta cloud which also had less weight, a thick cord and a loud whistle. Although I didn't like those things, it still didn't take long for me to pack up all my other vapes and use it exclusively. I'll be interested to hear what you think after a couple of uses. Also, put something in the bottom of the bamboo for the whistle. Something as simple as tissue worked for me, but I ended up with a filter from a bag blower as my final answer.

I'm aware I can engineer my own solution, like I have to do as well with the excessive heat generated at the top of the unit and the whistle. And I will, soon enough. But I don't think I should have to be the one to design and implement these improvements.

Bah... look at me. I still love VapeXHale and all, don't get me wrong. I'm just pissed and unreasonable right now. It's the whistle I'm really upset about, the rest of these are just minor gripes. I'm sure I'll be more rational in a few hours.

no i hear where you are coming from. i personally really like that you can hold it from the bottom comfortably now but some little rubberized feet tocome with it would certainly rule

exit,
Hey @CentiZen, I'm not here to change your mind, but first off with the whistle, mine isn't like blowing on a whistle, but it is definitely noticeable. So I feel rather impartial to it after having the unit over a month now. It's definitely not soothing, but I don't find it annoying, that's just me. I think if they were even able to get rid of it, people would miss it, kinda like the ticking where some folks got so accustomed to it, they missed it when it was gone.
My thoughts about the heat is that a touchable surface as hot as the top gets is far from ideal, I've had readings near 300F up top, but mine may be a hot unit (? ?).
Here's the deal though, the bottom, I haven't had readings over 100F. So the floor In the Evo's heating chamber is separating the heat from the lower chamber with all the electronics, which bodes well for our hands when we grab the lower part, as well as protect the precious electronics. Hopefully they can create the walls to have similar heat reflection properties as the new floor does in the next iteration of the cloud. This would also keep more heat in and around the glass which would allow for less power for the same heat, at least that's what I think would happen if it was loosing less heat on the sides. Or it would all exhaust out the top...
Anyway, I think the new floor is a great step, and hopefully they can keep progressing. It's a lot of heat to contain though.
Just my thoughts, I hope you enjoy the EVo, despite your initial issues.

If you were an IGG contributor, wrist bands should have been included. I'd suggest a Support Ticket to obtain them, and a replacement ELB.

There is a small raised spot at the left-side seam in line with the middle screw; it is intended to guide your hand to stay below it away from the high heat area. Personally I don't like gripping it that way and so I have 3 wristbands that fit precisely between the dial recession and the engraved logo. This permits me to hold the EVO with my palm on the right side and fingers wrapped around the back, above the plug. Works perfectly. The only reason I have to touch anything near the top is to remove the ELB, which does get really hot. Thumbnail or Epik does that job.

About the whistle . . . that was my only real big annoyance at first, too. But it's gone now. I found that the whistle varies with the glass; e.g., with my HydraCirc and HydraLine, there is little to none. It also varies with the pull, but I've found I can comfortably inhale just below or above the whistle. Occasionally I will get a whistle I can't adjust to, my pinkie at the bamboo intake remedies that. It took me nearly a week to discover all I needed to do, but now it's second nature.

I started testing mine last night and am reserving judgement until more thorough side by side testing with my OG ticker.

Early thoughts...

Cons:
Whistle really annoys me
Cord connection slightly "wobbles"
Very hard to remove cord
Top portion of case is smoking hot
No wristbands in package
Temp spectrum different than OG

Pluses:
Taste was phenomenal
Medicated me quickly and thoroughly
It's an EVO with a 2 year warranty!

My OG has performed flawlessly since July 2012 so the EVO has a tall mountain to climb before it is my new king of the vapes. And admittedly I am one of those people who have a hard time letting go of something I consider dear to me. :)

More ramblings to come after I have a day off with my EVO.

Yeah, the whistle really bugged me too.. IMO That shit screams on Stu's EVO, I don't need a vape siren LOL.. but it's not the biggest deal to me.. I still intend to get one soon.

For what it's worth... I noticed the whistle when I first got my Evo, but either it stopped whistling or I am completely oblivious to it.

+1 +1 +1 !

I also have a hydratube (evolver hydratree) that does not whistle at all with the EVO.
Meanwhile, my glass pieces where I invert the unit all have varying loudness of the whistle.
One bong in particular produces an especially high pitched whistle.

I personally don't mind and have pretty sensitive hearing.
However, I'm not annoyed by sounds just in general.

The only thing that bugged me about the whistle, is that it seemed like the type of pitch that could possibly cut through walls, especially in the silence of night.. Other than that, it didn't actually bother Me.. I could care less what sound it makes, as long as the vape works like it does.

I had to work around the whistle - it was hurting my dog's ears (and pissing off the wife royal). :o

All key points we've kind of touched on as each IGG person gets their unit. VXL has said they are looking at the feedback so hopefully the next Rev will see some changes.

I'm a huge "whistle hater" but the DIY 'solution' was so quick and effective. I would agree in a future revision maybe there is something similar that just comes in the box. I also had a big long bit on the cord, but swapping that out made such an immediate difference...

I think many of us didn't get any VXL wristbands, that's the standard I believe, Evo + Glass + 2 ELBs and a cord.

There is sort of a "dogfeeding" methodology when looking at "what comes in the box". Like imagine someone gets the box, and all they have is medicine, whats in the box and the wall outlet in an empty room. Yes, they can successfully use the vape as intended. However what is that actual experience like?

Compare however to the traditional "what's in a box" that we see in the hard goods industry

Playstation 3 - HD console for multiple players ships with SD cables, only 1 controller and no games. I have like 4 PS2/PS3 SD/AV cables that are brand new never touched. Had to buy my own HDMI or Component cables...

Back in the 70s and 80s you'd get a toy at Xmas with no batteries included.

In 2013 we buy a cat toy for Xmas and it comes with batteries, cost only $10... but was made in china, and it breaks after 3 play sessions with the cat...

But yeah, I think those of us without the bands and who did not have a stock of ELBs were, at least I was feeling like I did when I got my PS3 only a little better. Like I wouldn't even hook my PS3 up without HD cables. But the EVO, I dove right in before I had the cotton/wristbands/new power cord...

Vapes on vapes on vapes!
I've found a small glitch which has occurred twice and isn't a big issue, just something that has happened to me. I'm using a WeMo and I've gotten in the habit of manually pushing the button off/on to extend the auto-shutoff time. Twice now when I've done this very fast, as fast as I can push the button off/on, and it's come back with a green light on instead of the red/green combo (before returning to green a minute later). I've gone to load an ELB after some time has passed and noticed my EVO is cold, but the light is green. When I shut the unit off and on again it shows red and then heats up like normal. All of that said I believe it is just a small glitch as my unit has heated up just fine after a proper off/on switch. It's not a big deal, it's just something that's happened twice to me. I'm still loving this thing!

Hi Hexi, my point was not so much to introduce what I thought was new information, rather to highlight the issues that I have with this unit. If VXL is looking at the community feedback, then I'd like them to see my feedback as well. I'm not sure if others reporting and discussing the issues should preclude me from doing the same.

I'm a huge "whistle hater" but the DIY 'solution' was so quick and effective. I would agree in a future revision maybe there is something similar that just comes in the box. I also had a big long bit on the cord, but swapping that out made such an immediate difference...

As I'd said in my other point, my issue is not with the fact I can hack my unit to not have this issue, but that I need to do it at all. In my opinion this is something that should not have passed beta stages before being solved. I have faith VXL will solve it, but my point is that I think it should have been solved earlier.

I think many of us didn't get any VXL wristbands, that's the standard I believe, Evo + Glass + 2 ELBs and a cord.

Troi reached out to me almost immediately and informed me they had run out of wristbands and could not include any in my package. They are a standard item, and I can place a support ticket to get some when they are available.

Perhaps you could rephrase this part? I'm having a hard time seeing how any of these are applicable comparisons to this situation. I'm interested though.

I hope my posts don't make it look like I'm being totally negative about the whole situation. I'm happy with the vapor output, taste and the recent support I received from VapeXHale, but I'm not as happy as I hoped I would be and I think it's important to be brutally honest about the factors that must be changed if the EVO is going to be the best vape it can be.

I've been rocking my evo around 3 o'clock with the mini elbs. Really nice, 100 mg more-or-less gets me good and ripped. Nice vapor production with minimum hassle.

So as for the cotton trick to silence the whistle, I was kind of worried that sticking cotton near the opening of the bamboo was a little too risky. All I could think of was the piece getting sucked up through the opening and into the bamboo, where it would quickly be burned.

I don't know if anyone else has though of this, but after some thought and a chat with a friend, we came up with this solution using a hair elastic to hold the cotton (in this case it's toilet paper; all I had to work with) over the bottom intake hole. Because of the lip on it, it holds on nicely:

It's working pretty good with three layers of two ply toilet paper, I imagine it would be even better with cotton. I'll have to pick some up tomorrow.

I was a little taken aback by the whistling when I used the EVO inverted with my bubbler for the first time. my cloud+ actually does this as well but it's not as loud as the EVO. it's really not very noticeable when using it right-side-up with an HT. anyway I almost immediately stopped caring. I just don't find it very annoying, although others who have tried my EVO have commented on the whistle.

I also agree that the upper half of the unit gets surprisingly hot to the touch when I have it fully heatsoaked at operating temps, and the top of the bamboo and ELBs can get hot as well. again this is just one of those things that doesn't really bother me. I just hold the unit from the bottom and pull the ELBs out with my fingertips/nails. it's not hot enough to actually cause a burn. in a past life I worked on cars as a hobby so if it's not hot enough to burn me if I accidentally touch it, I'm not that concerned. just have to be careful letting noobs handle it.

as I look over my original review, I clearly glossed over these points. this is most likely because the EVO does what I want it to do so well that I can easily overlook what I'm calling the "quirks."

I am the sort of customer that expects to have to tinker with just about everything I buy in order to get it to work exactly the way I want it to. Almost nothing functions exactly how I want it to right out of the box. I have grown to accept this as a fact. I modify and tinker. so I judge products a little differently than most. if it knows what it is supposed to do, and does it well, I can overlook small annoyances. I tend to roll my eyes at some of the posts where people go on about how a product at this price point should basically be perfect.

EDIT: let me clarify - I recognize that both negative and positive feedback are valuable to the discussion and to VXL, you're just not likely to hear many complaints from me unless something stops working

This. Exactly.
Yes.

oh, and @CentiZen that is a great solution to the whistle! I will try that one, too.

Okay. I just got my unit. Gives me great clouds at varying temps. I JUST got this thing.. maybe a couple of days in I will be able to perfect it.

The problems I see. It doesn't get as hot as I thought it would, I have to have it on the max setting to get real clouds, no where near combustion. The abv comes out blonde. The dial on my unit doesn't line up properly. The noon "groove" is more at 10am. There were no wristbands in the package. I don't care about the heat part, but what they would have helped with is grips on what is to me a very slippery vape! I won't bother them right now for wristbands, but I will need some later for grips. I can't find those things locally for whatever reason..

It works. I clearly get medicated. I just don't know what to do about the dial being so off.. I'm going to keep testing it for now.

EDIT: Okay at max setting its getting the abv to a dark brown. (awesome) But is this supposed to get hotter?

Hello I just got my New Evo today, and I absolutely love it I just have one concern, After Using it around 3 times for about 30 minutes I have noticed that after I use it and turn it off I hear strange crackling noises coming from the unit, I have looked and there is no cracks in the glass or anything like that but it is sorta worrying me, anyone else have this happen?
