VXL explained to me that my unit's firmware was miscalibrated in such a way that caused the core to get too hot too fast and fail. Before I get into the details of how the repaired and recalibrated unit works, I just want to emphasize how impressed I am by the support I received. I sent my broken unit in and it was repaired for free under warranty, in 2 weeks time with zero hassle. so my experience with VapeXhale costumer service and product support has been excellent.

First thing I notice when firing up the rebuilt unit is that it is much cooler at noon than it was under the original calibration. Noon produces somewhat whispy but delicious vapor. I usually load between .05g and .1g and this will last for roughly 4-6 hits at this setting, producing a nice blue vapor with wonderful low-mid temp effects. With the new firmware, my EVO doesn't really show it's power until the 2:00-3:00 range. At 3:00 I am getting the most incredible performance out of this vaporizer. An entire .05g-.1g load can be fully extracted in 1 hit. 2 at the most. Some of these hits are the most potent I have ever experienced, producing a dab-like wave of instant effects (even causing the occasional "sweats!"). Effects last for hours. And here's the part that blows me away: it actually tastes good and doesn't hurt my throat. At that temperature and with that volume of vapor I would expect more irritation, but it's actually smooth and still delicious. Additionally, I have taken ABV from each of my other vapes after it had been roasted to the point that it produced no vapor and dropped it into an ELB, loaded it into the EVO at 3:00, and blown a massive cloud every time.

In my opinion, this thing is basically the vaporizer equivalent of a high-end sports car. It doesn't try to do everything, and it appeals to the desires of a few specific markets. I am talking about buyers who are looking for a product that does a few specific things, REALLY well. I can get very pure flavor at noon, or I can get incredible extraction at 3:00. At noon the ABV is really still a very dark green, but it is fully dried and has very little smell. At 3:00 the ABV is a very even milk chocolate, with virtually no smell and it has a tendency to turn to dust if you agitate it.

I fill mine about a 3rd of the way right now ground fine (MFLB finishing grinder fine). Anyone have success with 1/2 or even 3/4 filled ELBs?

I just did a 3/4 filled ELB.
It's not efficient but it worked.

When I dumped out the contents, half was light brown, half was golden.
I simply re-loaded the half that was golden.
Its an easy way to fully extract any quantity you want to load in the ELB.

While I was recording the milkshot,
I couldn't see even the fainest outline of the writing on my shirt, behind the thick white vapor.

Obviously I have not got to try my Evo yet (oh man the grin on my face typing that) but in my OG TICKER I would fill it 3/4 full all the time!

Here was my trick to making it hit nice and consistently.

I dunno how you guys fill your ELBs but this is how I do it. I'll just put it inside a grinder and push it to one of the walls to scoop up an ton, then gently move it all in with my finger, then push it with a poki just enough so that it falls down to the bottom. Not packed down at all, but you can fill a lot if you keep making everything fall to the bottom.

I just do that until there's just enough room for the ELB to sit around without smooshing anything down and with just enough room for the ground weed to expand. This way you get consistent dark brown all the way thru

In my OG TCKER and Cloud+ it worked great every time! But it certainly wouldn't work just as soon as the vape gets up to temp. I let it get up to temp, then wait another 10~ minutes from there, and then another minute about before I started hitting the bowl. It didn't pull as freely as a 1/4-1/2 filled ELB obviously but it will hit and it will hit consistently for a solid 20 minutes if it kept going. I would hit it for about 15 minutes before shutting it off and hitting for another 2~

If I do this with a 1/2 filled ELB I find it hits just as nice as a 1/4 filled one.

Glad I finally gave VXL some of my money really after owning 2 clouds (both worked great, no cloud deaths, my cloud+ i sold to a friend for what i paid for it and my og ticker yet to find a home).

Should i start collecting kief????

my rebuilt/reflashed unit behaves almost exactly as you described. at 10:30, the vapor is barely visible and at 3:00 it totally whitewalls my glass. no combustion whatsoever.

I sometimes get confused when people talk about 1/3 ELBs, and 1/2 ELBs, etc. because I can't tell if we are talking about total volume of the uncapped ELB or the available volume left once you put the cap on. my standard load takes up about 1/3 to 1/2 of the remaining volume left once you apply the cap. 2/3 works fine too, but I would rather spread that out into two smaller loads and take two green hits. just my preference at the moment. I have gone as far as filling the entire remaining volume (with the cap on) but that didn't work very well as my material is finely ground and I guess the trichs sort of melted together forming a semi-solid pellet that did not allow much airflow.

on the subject of loading ELBs, let me share what I am currently doing. maybe you guys can help me do better and maybe I can help someone else. I grow weary of grinding up flowers every time I want to vape, so I'm messing around with different ways of keeping pre-ground material. stumbled on these at a local glass store. They give them away for free to customers:

I keep a different strain in each tube. I think they are intended for keeping rolled joints/blunts fresh, but they seem to do a decent enough job with ground herb too. No smell escapes, and my material isn't getting dried out. I know it's not a good long term storage solution, the plastic allows light to pass through and the seal at the cap is maintained by tension only. but that's all fine because I don't keep material in there for very long. So far I haven't noticed any degredation.

When it comes time to load an ELB, I pop the cap off a tube, which when inverted happens to serve as a perfect ELB holder, and simply pour/tap the ground material into the ELB like so:

Did some epic testing over the weekend, managed to pick up some new flowers and wax.

Whistle
- Per suggestion I tried an 'air filter' on the bottom of the bamboo to get rid of the whislte. A small piece of organic, sterile cotton face pad. Just place it, don't stuff it on top of the hole. Boom, no more whistle. Remove and store when finished.

Results - no more whistle sound. Draw is almost exactly the same

ELB
- One of issues I had was uneven ABV, especially when the Evo is inverted. Enter - organic, sterile cotton. I drop some pulled, loose cotton in the top of the ELB, about 50% of the space.

Results - the flowers stay lower and dont get sucked into the cap. Much more even ABV, sessions hit harder earlier on.

Power Cord
- The stock power cord is a bit off. As others have mentioned it feels too tight, and the cord itself is thick and has tensile strength that is much stronger than the force of gravity on the light Evo. For me, this resulted in the cord "pulling" on the evo, directing it where to go etc...

I replaced the stock cord with a Belkin 3 prong cord. It's much longer, yet lighter. The result is no more tensile pulling on the Evo unit. Seriously, the power cord is mostly an afterthought, but having a longer cord that is less thick makes using the Evo way easier for me in terms of risk of it being knocked over or knocking over glass.

Seems like such a minor thing, but it really makes a big difference. The cord is connected to the unit and used every single session. Swapping my cord out has really just improved overall functionality.

Clearly a battery powered version of the Evo is on everyone's mind for the future?

Concentrates
- The 2 cap method mini ELB methods don't really work for my EVO. Concentrate just seems to melt and drip before going to vapor.

But I love concentrates and got some new samples so I thought the tried and true cotton trick might work. Cotton for at ~50% of the Evo at the top (inverted) keeps it nice. For better performance, I am going to do a full wrap of cotton around the concentrate instead of just a dollop at near the cap to catch the drips. A full cotton wrap I'm hoping will catch all the drips and leaks and "where did it goes" ...

Results - Cotton is king, DIY 'Concentrate attachment'

Snagged some epic Headband wax at ~70%+ THC and some really smooth SFV wax at 50%. (CO2 etc.. extracts)

Narrow Temp Range Dial FW
- I've got it down now, my unit is basically 3pm to get the vapor going, and 3:15 to finish with max clouds, 3:30 to do full extract. It's a pretty narrow range on the dial, but since my high end is producing satisfying clouds that are rich and thick, sending in my unit for a FW upgrade is lower down on my to-do list.

I got the EVO to do big, fast extractions, with top-shelf glass and that's what I'm getting

You can use a different cord like those for a computer, vacuum cleaner, etc. I've tried several Type SVT cords and they all worked much better. If you want to make your own, it's 18AWG/3, C13 female, 5-15P male. (SM said the concern will be addressed in the future.)

I have a super long and heavy cable from mono price I was planning on using.

When I describe the fill amount of my elb i mean the space below the space the top cap occupies.

Anyone who owns or owned both og ticker and evo, anything to keep in mind or any comparisons?

FYI - I switched from cotton to hemp fiber a while ago.

I did a lot of side-by-side testing, and found the theory behind hemp fiber was supported by the data - takes fewer actives out than cotton, as hemp fiber is already super-saturated in structurally similar (though non-psychoactive or medicinal) molecules. And enough carded hemp fiber to coat my whole apartment was all of $10 (they were selling it by the kg).
Hell, PM me your address and I'll send you some to try. It'll take me a decade to use the whole kilo of it I got.

I can't do it anymore (spinal damage), but you want a martial art that is built for being vaped, try one of the Indian subcontinent ones.

I used to do a form called the tandav (Siva's Dance of Destruction), amazing when you're altered. Added bonus, in much of India, the hemp plant is considered an incarnation of Siva (after all, his name means 'the kind one'). Mix it with ritual vaping over a shivling (shiva lingam) like one of these http://www.amazon.com/Shiva-Lingam-...=UTF8&qid=1390337185&sr=8-6&keywords=shivling, and I swear you will get higher. I'm a Jewish Buddhist atheist and it still works for me.

Also learned a Punjabi form from my ex (she's a Sikh) that involved the kirpan (sikh knife) and cakra (a terrifying Indian giant circular blade thing). Never tried that one too wasted though - too many cutting edges.

Cable: Ref @Hexi's post above. Be careful that your setup doesn't permit the cable to easily move the very lightweight EVO.

Fill: Doing 1/3 to 1/2 with cap in. Can do more but only adds drag and is less efficient, so I'd rather use two lightly filled than one full.

OG vis-a-vis EVO (I have both): Comparisons are inevitable, but I suggest concentrating on learning the EVO first. Trying to match up the machines function for function, feature for feature can be frustrating at the start. E.g., the dial position will be different, the heat-up different, the hit different, how it works with your glass may be different, etc., etc. If you're at all obsessive (as I am) you can drive yourself nuts. Once you have the EVO comfortably mastered, whatever differences that might be important to you will be evident and you can take it from there. Of course, if you encounter an unexpected difficulty with the EVO that you didn't have before, that's a different matter but you'll get an answer quickly here. :2c:

I had the weight of my cord pull the EVO off my table last night. Luckily I had been doing home improvement stuff all day so I was able to quickly catch it mid-air with the heightened hand reflexes. Felt like Spider-Man :spidey:
