My used SSV came with one of these heater covers?

Silver-Surfer-Vaporizer-Heater-Cover-Standard-500x500.jpg

It seems pointless! Do i really have to hold in there like a carb?
Not even the wand that is supposed to match this heater cover fits on any better than the gong wand.

Someone help me understand what i'm doing wrong pleae?

i havent been able to get my damn ssv to put out any vapor so i'm frustrated. gonna go back to my cloud soon

Yes the standard setup is much like the spherical ground glass setup,
in that it requires a more active technique.

The standard ground glass setup, with or without the hands-free kit,
is more of a plug n' play kind of thing.
But you give up a certain amount of control over the process.

I know you don't like the Cloud @Vitolo but I've had two and plan on getting more.

I figured out the heater wand thing and tried it properly with both standard and ground glass setup.

I'm pretty sure I just don't like whips. Maybe with some really really nice silicone like the Omicron tips that doesn't affect the flavor as much.

I'm a glass on glass addict! SSV seems to put out vapor fine but if I can taste the silicone/plastic it's not happening for me. Maybe a LSV with HI heater mod is more up my alley. It's why I had to stop using my JET bong after all. Loved the design, couldn't bear to hit it for the love of me

I really want to like this vape guys but little things keep getting in the way...

I don't mean to give the impression I am anti-cloud. I just did not personally care for it, and the members of the community here that did get one had bad luck with theirs.
I enjoyed experimenting with my cloud when it was here.
My SSV is my favorite though.
I've had mine for just shy of 4 years.
One has been enough so far!

both my clouds still work! i have two because i love them so much!

in your 4 years with the SSV you have been using silicone tubing?
the smell/flavor of the tubing does not bother you?

I remember the tubing that came with my VAPOLUTION 2.0 I liked because it did not smell or affect the flavor hardly at all.

The SSV tubing has stunk immensely since I took it out of the box.

IF you know any tips or tricks for helping with this i'm all ears.
My problem is that I can't bear to hit it with the taste and smell of the tubing.

I think this may be different for everybody, but for me the main functional difference is that with the ssv you get to mess with a whip, and with the cloud an electrical cord gets in your way.

There are other differences to be sure, and I'm not knocking the benefits of an all-glass vapor pathway. But plug-in whip vapes are made to sit on a tabletop. The evo is more like an lsv or log as it excels hand-held inverted with glass, but can be also used on a tabletop (quite well) with a hydrotube.

Check the image at post at http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/silver-surfer-vaporizer.2/page-155#post-367638
That is a two year old whip that smells fine (many members here have been to my home and have smelled it.)
To see how I treat my wand and whip daily for cleanliness tpouch the image.
My SSV smells less than most vapes in the house.

thank you very much. my tubing no longer reeks.
howver i have let my ssv sit on for an hour at 1pm temp, trying to use the standard glass heater cover with standard glass wand but still no luck...

how long should it take until vapor production?

Howw can i be sure if my heater cover is down all the way?

EDit: Well I guess all the 3 minute heating times I was reading were tricking me. 40 mins later and finally started getting some good hits.

Am i the only one who doesnt mind the smell and taste of avb/used vape parts ? i never notice any taste of any tubes, shit i once used my old vtower which i gave to a mate, he messed his tube up or something and fixed it with a used garden hose, now that was a vape you could taste. The SSV tastes like good clean vapour to me, even compared to the cera which is just about the most clean vape you can get.

As for the standard wand, yeah its a bit of effort holding it up to the vape to take a hit, but think of the vape as a lighter and the wand as a bong and it makes sense.

As for the heater cover, just press down on it firmly to make sure its all the way on.

Also yeah leave the vape on all day its fine, i hear the first ssv they made is still turned on and running at full temp since it was first turned on, like 8 years ago or something, and its fine.

40 minutes is too long; heat up time should be 5 minutes or less. Did your heating element sink too low in the heating cover perhaps?

Line up the heating element like so...

You know the "carb"/hole in the HC? Well...make it so the brightest orange part of the ceramic rod is right near that hole. Bam. Your HC is now in its best position!

exit, sounds like you maybe need to turn the knob more. I have to set mine around 3, but it clicks off at 9. so around 6 hours from where your unit first clicks on. mine gives very minimal vapor around 1.

I find it really depends on my bud what tempreture im at, sometimes i can go for a whole session right at the point where it clicks on at like 7/8am, but then some weed wont give off good vapor unless the unit is sitting at 12pm, often i end up around 3 to finish off the bowl either way, but its interesting to me.

I don't think he meant it required 40 minutes of wait.
I think he was saying that he came back for a hit later and found that the heat was just fine.

From my experience so far it takes about 45 minutes to get up to vapor production temp.
If the wand is cold, an extra 5~ minutes to the process.

There is no way I'm getting hits 5 minutes after turning this on.
This is only possible for me if I let the empty wand sit attached to the heater cover and get sufficiently warm before I load up the wand.
If the wand is warmed up and the vape is warmed up then I get instant vapor production upon attaching the wand.

Regardless this is with the temp knob at about 3 oclock where i like it.

Does it take 45 minutes for your heater stick to glow red?

No that happens almost instantly. Vapor production absolutely does not start then though.

It's not a big deal. It's common knowledge the heaters in these aren't the most efficient ones on the market. I am still happy with the SSV but it works better when the wand is heated up too.

Once the heat stick is glowing it should be giving good vapor within a couple minutes.

I thought the common knowledge was that these do have one of the most efficient heaters.

I'm shocked that its taking yours 45 minutes, especially since it glows right away. Oh well, as long as you can medicate.

From DEAD off I get vapor of thick consistency in under 10 minutes.
From the lowest spot on dial to vape temp takes 1 minute.
That being said, the SSV in my room has not been turned off in years.
It is zero wait time when it is SSV time, here.

Mine for sure gives thick vapor after 10 min... If i have the vapor dish deal on it while I rip it, i get ultra thick clouds, and way sooner than 10 min after turning it back up to temp
