2 piece vs. 4 piece Grinder

Osn, when I got my two piece scs I said what is the big deal. I felt most grinders are the same and the expensive ones aren't worth the extra bucks. I liked the grind a bit better with my scs two piece but I don't really like two piece grinders. I still didn't think it was enough better for the money. The four piece changed that. I hope you guys can find a great price like adobewan found on this side of the world. Thanks again @Adobewan for finding such a good buy:).

No if you use the code you can get what you want and the site had good prices. I just bought a week ago with the code, blaze1 I believe it was. And so what I don't know where I am:smug:

I currently have 2 clear-top 4 piece grinders, one with my living room setup and the other in my office. One's a sharpstone with the external handle for grinding. It also screws down rather than being magnetic. The other one's a weedstar which is basically a knockoff of the magnetic lid sharpstone without the handle. At first, I didn't like the handle, but now I actually prefer it because it grinds so much faster and tends to have less stuck in the chamber after I'm done my initial grind.

I love the clear-top grinders cause you can see what's going on without having to open it up, I usually will tap the grinder a bit on the table or whatever until I can't see much from the top anymore. In either case, these are probably my two favorite grinders at the moment, It's a toss-up as I like both styles, with slight edge to handle for speed, but edge to the standard magnetic lid style for durability, I always swear that handles going to break off, but I've had it for a while now and it's still going strong.

i had a small 4pc spacecase but i gave it to my sister, she used to have a 5pc that actually had 2 separate kif sections, one finer than the other, but it got stolen. That was pretty cool though. I have a weird grinder that's basically a 3pc that a friend gave me when I was grinder-less for a few months. It's got a separate kif section, but no separate chamber for the grindings. I don't really like that style much at all. I like to have a clear area without the grinder blades so I can just shove one of my tubes into it to fill it up. I also had a wooden grinder with metal grinding pins shoved into it. I never really liked that either, it was just slow and didn't really grind that well.

I been using the polished lucite grinder in my avi for a couple years now. Never felt like the keefe grinder was a good replacement for a dedicated bag/box, why take trichs out of what youre about to smoke?

hmm, so do they have two-piece grinders that have separate chamber for the grindings, but no kif catcher? I am definitely interested in that idea....sometimes it's nice to use up the kif. I guess you could just rip the screen out of a 3 piece....? though you'd have an extra section that's not really needed if you did that.

Yes, Well really, you could just unscrew the part that has the screen and put it aside, and just screw the bottom piece straight onto the grinder top... And voila, 2 piece grinder when you want it.

LOL, I don't know why I didn't think of that. That seems almost too obvious, hah. The only thing about this is that the bottom kif tray isn't that deep, so I can't grind up quite as much, but, that's not the hugest deal in the world since at least i'm getting the kif mixed in now!

Haha yeah its nice its just that easy right? No need to go buy anything! I have not used my kief screen ever. I only grind what I need for each session, and I don't like grinding a lot at once due to loss of taste if left out too long.

I used a 4 PC cheapo chromium crusher for about a year til the the plastic teeth starting falling out from grinding sticky buds.
I don't doubt that it failed. Even the gimmicky aluminum models with see through top and crank won't hold up long term. You need a grinder that's CNC cut from one solid piece of aluminum if you want reliability, and these days even inexpensive brands are 100% CNC. When teeth aren't just 'stuck on' but cut by the CNC machine, they don't break or bend unless maybe you're trying to grind big fat stems. I've never had a bent or broken tooth with any grinder but I don't try to grind big stems either.

I'll use a 4 pc. only when the bud is dry (almost always in cold weather) and the kief just falls off the bud during grinding, since trying to keep that dry kief with the bud is almost impossible and you end up losing some unless you store it separately. When the bud is moist/sticky you don't separate nearly as much kief with grinding and I think it's easier to lose sticky kief when separated since it tends to stick to anything it contacts. So whether I use a 4 pc. or 2 pc. depends on whether the herb is dried out or not. I try not to let it get dry unless I'm grinding for the Magic Flight and want a really fine grind.

The biggest problem I have with the 4 pc. grinders is the high price on the big brand names. I've gotten the same reliability and performance from an under $20 Chromium Crusher, Sharp Crusher, etc., as with a Space Case at many times the cost. My Sharp Crusher even has a better tooth design than the Space Case (standard diamond shape). Space Case and Santa Cruz have, by far, the best fit and finish of any brands I've seen (no burrs anywhere), but that perfection doesn't translate to better performance, and the perfection doesn't always hold up, looks wise, unless you stick to the plain aluminum, vs. anodized. I don't have a problem with the big brand names in a smaller 2 pc. design though. The price difference there is only a few bucks.

The new 7th floor grinders have a removable screen ... could take it out and have a large chamber instead of sifting and they come in 4 inch
$95? Too much for me. You can remove most screen sections in a 4 pc. The 4 pc. Titan grinders on eBay not only have a removable screen, but are inexpensive ($30 for 3" 4 pc.) and have great anodizing- can't scratch it off unless you dig at it- a great little known brand IMO.

A 4 pc. is obviously more versatile. With most of them you can remove the screen section if you want. You can also turn it upside down and use it as a 2 pc. for a finer grind. I'd give a  to the affordable 4 pc. brands and the high end brands in an affordable 2 pc. size, like 2".
