Herb Grinders

What was he talking about?

SCS=Santa Cruz Shredder. I'm after a 4 piece SCS in either the mini or small size (Planet Vape and other retailers call this medium).

Is there anyone out there who has had SCS 4 part grinders in both the mini and small sizes who can comment on whether there is any difference in the grind fineness, consistence and fluffiness between them? Also any difference between these in how easy it would be to pour a small amount (a solo stem or Thermovape T1 bowl) into a Jyar or T1 bowl?

I realise that the mini probably won't turn as easily, especially with more moist buds, but this probably won't be an issue for me.

Cheers

Yep I was talking about the Santa Cruz shredders. i have a 4pc and It's the best grinder I ever had, perfect grinds, soft turns, nice fluffines and the screen doesn't let pass plant material in your kieff. I love it!

My first grinder after decades of using scissors was the titanium space case 4pc.

Was overpriced IMO, but works well for me with little time and effort.

If your in the usa and want a scs, the best price I have seen is where I just got it. www.blaze1.com The code I think is blaze20 if it still works. If it doesn't I might have the wrong code check the other grinder thread for it.

< Best grinder ever. Because it cost 9 bucks. And...

Lucite magnifying bubble w stainless pins. Bought some 3-4mm felt dremel bobs and polished the guts, its great for analyzing buds as you break them up to perfection.

I like my weed busted up, not ground down. Diamond teeth were good in the brick days... And magnetic center pins are an abomination, I dont wanna break my weed up before I break my weed down.. Just stab a bud w the pins and put grinder to work.. Just my personal opinions

There is no difference in grind fineness between my mini 2 piece and my large 2 piece SCS units, if that helps. Also id suggest one size up from the mini (whatever the smallest SCS makes since the size name can differ) unless you really need something ultra compact for travel.

Wow, @Zookeeper ! Where can I get one?

One size up from the mini is the small. Then it goest straight to large, then jumbo.

Yes, I know. However as many have found out a lot of retailers dont stick to that nomenclature. For example, I ended up with a "mini" because the e-tailer I purchased from listed it as a "small".

Unless you buy direct from SCS you need to pay attention to the diameter measurements rather than going off the name.

Whoops, my mistake.

Here is the sizing chart from the review I wrote:

Santa Cruz Shredder Grinder Sizing Chart:

  • Mini – 1⅝” Diameter
  • Small – 2⅛” Diameter
  • Large – 2¾” Diameter
  • Jumbo – 4″ Diameter
That should help if the retailers still post the dimensions.

I know everyone likes the aluminum space case better than the titanium space case, but the 'large' titanium is $10-11 cheaper than usual on their site

the "URL" of your image once you upload it to a hosting site... such as Photobucket.
After it is uploaded it will give you a URL to use.

Ok, I am not gonna read the entire thread. I am looking for a grinder that really grinds the stuff up fine. Will the SCS get the job done? Or is there something better.

Hello there, 1st post.

I just finished reading this entire thread over the past week, as a sort of personal triumph (165 pages!). It has been very informative, for sure, but the real treasure was reading about 6 years worth of industry trends. The biggest thing I took away was: SC has been the number 1 or 2 brand the entire time. So, that's what I opted for: a medium 2pc Ti SC (and a MFLB Finishing Grinder).

My 2p Space Case was the last grinder I bought. Might snag a Santa Cruz but I don't really need it...

What I think is the small 2p is $27.99 at my local headshop... Not the tiny one, kinda same size as my small 2p space case but thinner. Id like one but I have 2 working grinders. Haha.

Need some help choosing between:

SCS 2P Small - $41.23/£24.99
or
SCS 4P Small - $90.72/£54.99

I've never owned or used a grinder before, but reckon I should for Vaporizing.

Part of me thinks $41.23 is way more than enough to spend on a grinder & another $50 on top of that for a tric catcher seems insane ...the other part of me says while it's a lot of money it's something I will use every day for years to come.

I might not use the tric catcher much but then again I might, it would be handy for storing herb, but then $50 would buy a large collection of containers.

Are there any other differences between these 2 other than the tric catcher? ...& what should I go for?

A keif box will get you the same results and will be cheaper. The grind quality should be the same between the 2 and 4 piece although its easier to get a finer grind with the 2 piece if you need to.

I use a 2 piece because I like to vape my keif while its still on the bud it came with. Plus ultra fine sifted kief is like $15-20 USD per gram here so its a waste of time for me to collect it IMO.

For storage I highly suggest Jyarz containers.

Edit: u can get a finer grind on a 4 piece by keeping it upside down as you grind.
