Yeah, I guess that does state it pretty clearly haha, thank you! And how's DaVinci's shipping times? Anyone that ordered from their site remember how their (I'm hoping it's free) shipping was??

So Ascent is good with small loads ? They can produce good vape with small packages ? Is that oil jar and screens items are included whe we buy Ascnet ? Can you make a photo with this screens and oil jar in chamber according to your way ?

Yes, you get two oil jars with the Ascent. At the moment my camera is acting up so I can't do pictures. It shouldn't matter, since @Quetzalcoatl described it accurately. Pictures wouldn't add much.

Would this be a more stealthy alternative to the solo? I have now decided if I got this it would primarily be for herb use with the added bonus of being able to do concentrate.

I plan on selling my current solo and buying a new one later on as the solo really isn't stealthy enough for my needs right now. I also find my units battery is starting to dwindle (its almost two years old) and a new one isn't far from being needed.

Im not sure if they still offer free shipping you would have to check the site...depends on where you live also on how long it takes to get to you..

Unless you want to sandwich your concentrates between flowers, I wouldn't count on the ascent for concentrates. I have found my oil jars to be useless for anything except as a spacer.

If you order early today and it ships UPS you will probably get it Monday. USPS has Saturday delivery so you might get it Saturday. I can't remember how DV ships.

Alright so, now on to the last but most important issue... To get the best CLOUDS with this, but only using a small amount of herb (I have a habit of using small doses frequently throughout the day when medicating, I'll take only a few hits and then put it away usually), how do I achieve this? I'm assuming the best possible clouds would be to drag slow with a full, tightly packed bowl, but what about with a small bowl? What are the best things you guys have come up with so far? I've read a few posts about the glass flowers and glass cubes? Do these work well? Where do you buy them? And if not, what else works the best for very small loads?

Śome FCrs are using the glass oil can that comes with the Ascent, sitting on top of a small load, no lid on the can. Some use cotton on top.

People are buying the Tobacco glass pipe screens through Amazon. Little glass flowers with a stem we're using them to help fill the bowl for heat distribution. Read up on it in the thread, it's talked about at length. They cost $7.00. FCrs caused a run on them and the price went up, Nigel said. They were $5.00 a week ago.

I wonder what seems to work better though, the oil cans or the glass flowers? I looked back and I saw some very good things that were said about the flowers but nothing comparing them so I'm curious.

Also, what is the size of the bowl? Will these fit? http://www.everyonedoesit.co.uk/online_headshop/molino-glass-gauze.cfm?iProductID=3465

I'd like to find some plain glass flowers, all clear (hopefully quality, ones that won't crack)

@StraightChill you can find all the answers to your questions skimming back some pages... smiles...

I use these glass flowers and they work very well... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009UZ0QAU/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I put some on bottom stem up the put ground herbs in then top with flowers stem down..

If you look for nigels posts he has a ascent vaporpedia link on his posts that tells all about bowl size etc... I hope this helps ya....i found it for ya http://vaporpedia.com/wiki/Ascent

For the micro loads some like to use the glass jars without the lids... i never tried it on mine..i use the glass flowers!!

Awesome, thank you so much! And do you happen to know of a larger flower? Maybe so I only have to use one or a couple? How many do you end up having to use? Maybe I expected them to be a little bigger haha

only using a small amount of herb

Search back in the thread for the discussion between @lwien and myself where I tested 0.025g loads.

Read up on it in the thread, it's talked about at length.

^^^^ This.

FCrs caused a run on them and the price went up, Nigel said.

Nigel SUGGESTED this. Don't know it for a fact. But I imagine the vendor (3rd party through amazon) might be wondering why the increase in sales. Or not. A lot of the prices at Amazon are determined "on the fly" by algorithms that include things like item view counts, current sales rate, and the buyer's history.
:)

I wonder what seems to work better though, the oil cans or the glass flowers?

This has indeed been discussed in thread. I am of the opinion the flowers work much better (and are more flexible as you can choose the quantity you want to use, whereas the quantity of oilcans you can use is 1 or 0).

I'll let proponents of the oilcan over the glass flowers chime in here with their opinions.
:)

The colour helps one spot them in the ABV. I have, as of yet, to see any all clear ones.

In terms of "won't crack": good luck with that. Thin glass is thin.

And do you happen to know of a larger flower?

The last batch I got had random sizes to them. One is large enough to fill most of the bottom surface of the bowl (~9mm in diameter).

I call him "Mongo".

Hey Nigel-
When you break a glass flower -I assume it happens when you swing open the bowl of the Ascent & the flower catches on the glass 'screen' above. Is that right?

Have you ever broken the glass screen? Some folks, when cleaning, reported that the screen is very fragile. I haven't cracked a screen yet, but some may be thinner than others.

Just wondering.

Does this work with concentrates at all or is it not worth it. I don't like the containers that come with a lot of the other vapes because you constantly have to keep switching them out, I like the simplicity of these oil cans but if this is terrible with concentrate what should I look for that does concentrates and herbs? Keeping stealth in mind, I'd prefer if it wasn't a pen.

This is to take the place of my solo, which is currently not stealthy enough for my needs.

I break the glass flowers because I'm me.
:p

I honestly don't know how I break so many, but I'm sure some of it is indeed shifting during use, and that crack sound when I reopen the oven. :)

Keep in mind that I count "breaking" as not only snapping the stems, but also knocking of the "petals." The petals are a different glass (they are coloured and the base/stem isn't), so the join-point isn't particularly strong. So, I could have a perfect stem, with one or two petals knocked off.

No biggie. They're cheap and I have a lot.
:)

(PS: I still consider the broken ones usable to fill the bowl, so not an issue. I'd rather have ones in direct contact with the product have stems, but if I use a layer on top of that, the half (or zero) stems are just fine.)

In terms of the stem-screen, I have indeed broken one. They can be fragile. In my case, early on in testing the Ascent, I was using a spare stem to tamp down/pack the bowl. It's the perfect size for it after all, and has a better handle than the oil cans. I was mashing down the herb, when I had the edge of the screen I was using crumble. Not shatter... crumble. Maybe too much force at an angle against the edge?

Had a friend of mine break one trying to do a hot choco extraction. I think he had a bit of a boil going, and that was knocking the stem around in the pan? Or was it stirring the cup, and hitting the edge of the cup? Whatever it was, they are fragile.

I just take extra care and haven't broken one since!

The "top" stem (the straw one extracts), I don't think I've heard about anyone breaking those, other than @Slightly Medicated dropping his whole unit from shirt pocket to concrete floor. IIRC.

So those are sturdy. And have like 20 extra of those. (Slight exaggeration). I should put extras up in the classified, except that's not the half anyone would be seeking. :) :) :)

Hey @Username - @nigel - Just be careful of broken glass if you reuse your ABV. It'd probably be safer to toss a bowl with a broken flower than risk ingesting shards of glass.

Ordered on Friday, and it showed up today (Wed).. model 1AA1 in Carbon fiber.

Is the plastic cover on top piece of plastic that sits on top of the screen supposed to be able to be pushed in? Mine does.. :/

It also seems as if my lcd display underneath the clear plastic piece above it is off-center; ,my batter logo when full sits to the left.

DOA??? :(

EDIT: I should clarify, the unit does heat up.... so it isn't DEAD.. but if no one else's LCD is like this... I don't think I should be satisfied. Thoughts?

You bring up a good point.

This thought has crossed my mind, but my stuff will go into 191 Everclear and then a strainer or filter, so I haven't been too worried. I will use something that has a smaller gap than the smallest broken part flower. (The crushed stem load got dumped.)

Actually smaller is better here. That is for the same grams of glass you get more surface area with small pieces (the reason I went that way in my experiments once it was clear what the goal was). Heat is stored in the glass (just as it is in the glazing in the bowl....which is also glass....) and transferred to the load to make vapor during the hit. Measurements showed that the temperature was highest at idle (just before the it) and it drops throughout the hit. More so if you hit it harder looking for 'bigger clouds'. The key to more vapor is to store heat in the flowers so you can transfer it out when needed. You need to let it idle say 20 or 30 seconds between hits to regain full temperature through the load for maximum production.

I usually ended up with seven flowers, in 3 levels. 2 in first, a pinch on top, 3 in the center, more bud and a couple poked stem down from the top. Really only takes a few seconds longer and IMO the results are worth the effort.

I never worked out a good technique for breaking them, Nigel's your man there I think......

I Always use the glas oil can, it's so much easier than looking for my flowers (I used glas diamonds in stead)
in the abv. It also gives me the chance to press down and pack very hard.

On another note, you probably all already did this before but if you didn't, when you are cleaning the ascent, take one of those floss brushes and go trough the air holes and on the bottom trough the grill, from both sides etc, you will be amased by how much abv can pile up behind the grill.
