Thanks, just wanted to make sure before I ordered.

Curious is correct, and indeed all you need is what comes with the battery.

If you look on the Amazon image, this thing comes with a ton of adapters.

The one for this project is the smallest of the 6 adapters on that little rack of them you see in the lower right corner:
611ZRCLzB0L._SX522_.jpg

Looks like you get a bonus on this battery that I didn't get with mine as an Anker brand, and that's the car lighter adapter to charge the battery along with a wall wart. :)

The thing I didn't really mention but should is the exceptional quality and finish of the battery. You definitely won't be disappointed and it doesn't feel like it cheapens the fit/finish of the Pax either.

I keep each of my batteries and all the stuff they come with in this, its a camcorder case with hard sides and a pouch inside

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002DUEBIC

Battery in the padded pouch inside and it holds everything else. Really nice case at $3.99, all my external batteries get one of these.

I have to go back through the thread and issue some serious "likes". :)

- Got the Ryot case today which was mentioned earlier, it is like its made for the Pax, brilliant find!
- Have 2 of welderboys suggested Panasonicb18650b w/tabs on the way, along with the micro connectors (just in case, Im a tinkering freak like that and have no phear with a soldering iron)
- Pinnacle WT on the way along with the m2m adapter and food grade silicone tubing
- Ordered a 12 pack of Mentos Gum

none of which I'd have even known about without this thread and all the great contributions, and that doesn't include all the great tips and tricks I have to go back and show some love for. ;)

(Prefix: I'm sorry man, I hope people here aren't offended by my long posts. I've got 450+ pages to catch up on replying to, etc, so they'll get smaller and shorter, but again, my apologies up front to anyone who dreads long posts. Hopefully they're entertaining/informative/provocative enough to offset the War and Peace like quality of these initial posts. :) )

There has been a lot of info and discussion about the screens. A LOT of talk about screens...screens, "notches", using 2 screens, using brass screens, using volcano pads, and any/all combination of the above.

I've been using the Pax now for about 3 months with incredible success and (knock on wood), zero problems. No screens falling out, neither of my Pax's has "notches". Both my units were purchased directly from Ploom.

My suspicion is that, like all things of this nature, the Pax was designed to be used in a particular way, and that any other uses which work are a "bonus". What I mean to say is that, with the Pax, I suspect this device is designed and tested to be used with a full load, moderately packed. It's not designed with those users in mind who are looking to "conserve" their stash. Not that the Pax unduly burns through stash, because I would disagree with that notion entirely, and feel comparatively it's pretty conservative on the stash, but not designed to effectively vape a pinch hitter's worth of product.

I've seen many here who are looking to only add a dash of herb, fill the space with something heat conductive, and get amazing results. You may be able to do that, but I don't think the Pax is designed to work like that...my observation is that many of these folks are the same folks who say the screens fall out, or you need 2 screens, or no screens, or the draw is too hard, etc. I applaud all those who look to push the limits of these devices and experiment with load sizes, taking the non-conventional road. It helps us all to learn and grow, and by no means is anything I'm saying meant to belittle or judge...I'm not that kinda guy, just observing.

Also, I think most here would agree that there are MANY factors (not including the device itself) that affect whether or not one gets a "good cloud" and "good taste" from their vape session regardless of the device. Most importantly are, in this order (IMHO):

1. Quality - if your stash is brown, flush it down. :) LOL! Seriously though, if you're throwing some pressed mid-grade bud from some random Mexican field bale in your vape and expecting it to produce clouds of tasty vape, you're likely going to be at least mildly disappointed. I know that's all that's available to some, or that some may even prefer it due to economic reasons, etc, so this is only about what expectations should be, and again, no judgment on my bretheren for their choice (or not) or availability of herbs. Whatever works for you. I will say that I am blessed enough to not have to deal with that issue.

2. Moisture content - I don't measure mine per se, but like most experienced vapeheads, I ensure my product is nearly void of moisture. Generally, dryer = better (again, IHMO).

3. Grind - Sometimes too fine is bad (hard draw, especially when those trichs start melting), sometimes the grind is too coarse, and doesn't provide a satisfying cloud.

My advice here is to spend some time and try to adjust for those factors before anything else to get yourself close...probably good advice for any vaporizer, not just the Pax. Any one of these 3 items can greatly

These are just my observations from 400+ pages of this thread, and I pass judgment upon not one of my brothers and sisters here. In fact, I love the innovation and the trial-and-error spirit.

In that spirit, since I seem to be having none of the issues that many are having with screens, consistency, clouds, etc, I wanted to share what I do with my Pax...how much I use, how tightly I pack that in, how the grind looks, etc. On with the pictorial:

- Here's a picture of the grind size I prefer in all my vapes. The image shows it still in the grinder, and I put a US Nickle up to show scale. For those interested, the product here is "S.A.G.E. and Sour" (S.A.G.E. crossed with Sour Diesel by THSeeds):

33pm.jpg

- Next up, an image of how much I put in a chamber. I didn't weigh it, because I felt a "pile" next to a fixed item would show better and be a better gauge of amount and not weight:

vx7q.jpg

- In this 3rd image, I've taken the same above little pile and set it all in the oven area:

yuvc.jpg

- In the final image, I take that material and using my index finger, push it gently into place into the actual oven chamber. It results in what I would say is a firm, but not overwhelming pack. Moderately packed in, but not "jammed" in:

s34y.jpg

Clean up the edges, blow out any scraps around the edge. Place the oven lid in place, and it fits nicely, no pushing it on to compress the contents, etc.

Using this method, I am rewarded with amazing flavor, extremely large clouds of tasty, clean vape.

- The first 5-6 hits are amazing and taste like you would expect them to...fresh and tasty.

- After that, the next 5-6 hits have a more "toasted" flavor to them, but still produce large clouds and they still do massive "damage" on their own.

- After that, the remaining hits are lessened in quality and flavor. They are a bit too toasted for my taste, and at this point the "pack" is becoming a darker brown near the screen, and a deep yellow toasted color near the oven lid.

I'd indicated earlier that I am blessed, so at this point I expel the product as a little loaf and don't bother stirring it to "get the rest out of the oven load", but I can see how many would want to as there is clearly something left there to get out of it. Personally, I'll just pack another fresh one.

To expel the contents, I remove the lid, hold it over an ashtray, etc, and with my index finger I tap the side of the Pax 2-8 times, and 9 out of 10 times, the loaf expels as a loaf, and occasionally it "spills" out loosely (if I've vaped it into oblivion). Never requires tapping the unit on anything, nor putting anything in the oven to coax the loaf out. It just falls out with the tapping. The screen has NEVER fallen out, and I've expelled 100's of ovens full at this point, all of them packed in the above fashion. I will take a toothpick and just knock the few small pieces of ABV that stick to it, along with the oven lid.

When i put the screen in, I do it as some have previously mentioned: the point furthest from the hole in the oven, lay the screen into the bottom corner, then let it fall over the hole, and I use a toothpick to gently push down on the screen at the edge over the hole, just a bit, to "lock" it into place, leaving a gap under the screen where the hole is, but the other end of the screen is laying flat against the bottom.

So, I believe that using a moderately packed oven will all but eliminate the "loose screen" issue for many, and in fact the Pax was likely designed to be used in this fashion; full moderate pack on the oven, holds in the screen, even when expelling the ABV.

For reference, I clean my Pax when I feel "viscosity" on my mouthpiece...a little resistance. As soon there is that "greasy" feeling when I click the mouthpiece, I know it cleaning time. This actually feels "smoother" than a freshly cleaned Pax, but it's indicating that there's resin collecting and that's what causing the "greasy" feeling when I actuate the mouthpiece.

My next post will be about my cleaning routine, which for the most part is pieces and parts of what many here use and have recommended. I do use the PG, which I purchased a pint of "kosher" stuff on Amazon and some dropper bottles. I also use #00 steel wool with a little iso to clean the screen and any brown that's accumulated in the oven. But, more on that next time.

I have had my Pax for 3 months. I use it once a day and treat it very gently etc. The mouthpiece has been inconsistant since about a month ago. It is very difficult to get it to go off. It just won't "catch" when I push it down. I would always eventually get it to stay down until last night. It now will not stay down or "catch" in the off position at all. I am trying to search the list for this problem but haven't found posts related to it just yet...
TIA
You are doing it very wrong! You're not supposed to push the mouthpiece ALL the way down. Only push it down enough where you feel the click and let go. DO NOT PUSH IT ALL THE WAY DOWN. Be more gentle. :)

Fantastic post graffix. One of the best in this entire thread. I personally have had extreme success using just enough herb to barely cover the bottom of my screen and then using one to two stainless steel screens ontop of my herb to get sufficiently medicated. The draws are not as quality as with a full load, but I seem to get to where I need to be just fine. Cheers

Do you use another pax screen on top to sandwich your flowers or just a stainless/brass screen?

Very thorough posts GraffiX!! I appreciate the time and effort you put into the portable charger tutorial. For under $50 it seems like a great option should i ever need to go that route.

Got my pax a few days ago finally and really like it so far. Very discreet in public and the 45ish second heating time makes a quick session possible! I was strolling down the street beside a girl smoking a cigarette and didn't even get a look from her or anyone else. A 2 hit session did seem to great as long as i turn it off and make sure to take a few more hits after doing so. This should also decrease the smell coming from the Pax after a session (if its a concern). Great clouds on medium and very thick clouds on high. I'll stick with low for flavor and discreteness and the medium to finish things off.

My grind is similar to GraffiX's (maybe even slightly finer) and quite dry. Haven't had the need to clean yet but i feel the dry material will keep things much cleaner in the long run.

GraffiX, was that silicon tubing the best solution from this thread for connecting to a bong or water tool? Any link so a cheaper water tool?

Heya berman,

Thanks for the kind words! Definitely makes it easier to write a piece people enjoy when influenced by so many others here who have blazed a trail (pun entirely intended) in the same fashion. What a great resource this forum is, and the level of contribution here is phenomenal and inspiring!

It's great to hear that you and so many others are able to use this device in so many ways, and that sort of pioneering spirit is what I love about many of us who vape.

In that post I was mostly addressing the screen thing and why I figured that, outside a packed oven, so many seemed to have issues with the screen staying in. It was a mystery to me until I started to put the bigger picture together with all the posts in this thread about it, and it seems that those who pack the oven don't have the screen problem. I was honestly curious about that screen falling out, because it would indeed suck to empty an oven on the street, drive away, and then realize that your screen is gone (someone else's experience from earlier in the thread!). Figured I'd share what I'm doing with others on packing/grinding if it would help anyone with the screen issue, or just vaping in general.

It's great that so many people have come up with inventive ways to use this thing, and refined those methods with some unorthodox ideas to make it all work well. I was particularly impressed with one person who had cut up the Volcano pads to fit, and sandwiched a bit of wax between the two, put it all in the oven, and was apparently very successful in his endeavor! With rare exception, it appears that most people in this thread feel the Pax is an amazing little piece of technology, and with all the shortcomings of all the devices out there, the Pax is a very special device in that regard as it has very few (IMHO) if any.

All part of the fun of vaping, and having watched the vaporizer technology itself materialize into the various forms it exists today, sort of as the cannabis industry has, it's great to even imagine what's on the horizon. What's for sure, though, is folks like yourself, and all the great people on this forum will continue to refine, experiment, and push the technology to the limits, which is something that I absolutely love. :)

Have an awesome day brother!

Hi 3500!

Thanks for the kind words my friend, I'm very glad you enjoyed it and that it was helpful! Any questions that aren't answered in that post feel free to ask away anytime, I'd be glad to help further!

On the silicon tubing, to be honest, I'm still awaiting all of those items to arrive. I only went off of the recommendations of those here who have much more first hand experience with the water attachments and made the purchases of those items that were recommended.

If I had better answers for you on that issue I'd be happy to weigh in, but there are far more knowledgeable folks here than I regarding the silicon tubing/water tubes/usage/etc. I know when all my stuff finally arrives I will have plenty of my own for those folks, but maybe you'll get the answers in time for me to benefit as well! :)

Congratulations on your Pax purchase, and I'm sure one of these kind folks will be along shortly to help us n00bs to the water attachments out, there are plenty here who have done amazing things with them and the Pax, and I'm still learning from those folks. :)

Peace!

I am assuming that you are only using the low setting graffix?

That is a great question and I was actually planning on editing my earlier post to include that very item.

I vape 100% on medium (orange, 390F). All the time. I've tried the other settings, and I've seen how others use the temp, some use one exclusively, some use low, then bump to high after a stir, etc.

However, I keep many of the otherwise common variables to a minimum. These are things like:

- Ambient temperature
- Moisture content
- Grind size
- Strain of cannabis

I am blessed enough to be able to control the strain and quality, and have chosen S.A.G.E. and Sour as my "go-to" strain. My environments are stabilized as far as humidity goes, and I typically vape in my home, or when I'm not in my home, it's usually at a comfortable temp (inside a car, a concert venue, a tavern/bar, a cafe, etc).

So, for me, many of the variables remain constant, this allows me to keep the temp I like best at a constant as well. When using the Pax, with that strain prepared in my standard method, the orange setting (390F) works perfectly for me. I get wonderful clouds, a great taste that lasts 5-6 gigantic vape clouds into the sesh, and then another 5-6 that, while more toasted, still taste great.

I found that for me, the lowest setting worked, but I seemed to have to work for the hit, and it didn't give me the "punch" in 2-3 hits that I was looking for. On the highest setting, I find that the initial 5-6 are amazing, but that it tastes "toasted" after the first 2-3 hits. Medium is a perfect balance for me, keeping in mind that I don't stir it around and keep it until it's totally spent. I generally get ~12 hits total before I'm dumping it.

I generally leave my Volcano Digit at 390F as well, which I had long before the Pax and it just so happens that the orange setting on the Pax is 390F, lucky me! :)

I guess it's a matter of different strokes for different folks regarding temp, but off the top of my head, that's why I prefer a static temp of medium.

Hope that helped!

G

I have used both methods. I prefer using just one stainless steel screen with about a half packed oven. Two if I am barely covering the bottom pax screen

So, when I was cleaning my Pax tonight, I did a thorough job and then I clicked it onto the medium setting while it was empty. After it was done heating, I popped the cap off to see if there was any vapor and sure enough, there was some basically odorless vapor, not much. I tried again on red and it was the same thing. Anyone know what this means? Is it the ISO alcohol burning off, residue, both?

For all you early adopters who bought a Pax in 2012, how has the battery life held up? Any noticible decline? I'm thinking at one charge a day, you've likely put ~400 charge cycles on that unit, but some may have many more. Aside from the early failures, has the battery has held up well?

Hi Graffix, I got my first pax just before they launched in the summer of 2012, and it is still going strong, although there is a noticeable difference in the battery life between it and a replacement pax that is only a few months old. If I had to rate it, I would say that it gets about 3/4 to 2/3 the battery life per charge when compared to a new one. So being that it is about a year and a half old, and has been charged more than once most days, I still can't do math...but it has lasted very well so far.

By the way, I wish you had shown me that portable power source about a year and a half ago, I ended up buying one of those giant Duracell things that you can jump start a car with to take camping. Although I was very happy to have it during the long black out here in Toronto over the holidays, I can't imagine having to line up at a public charging station to charge a pax.

Ok, so I pulled the trigger on the Pax today.

I got the green one, which I guess is the latest model, so I'm hoping that the mouthpiece issues and any other small bug has been worked out!

The sticker price was $279.99 at the local shop in Tampa, but I ended up getting out the door for $250 total, with a nice little metal grinder.

The Pax is charging now!

After cleaning mine, I purposely did a burn off also. I expected to see vapor and did. In my case, it was both ISO burning off and a few minute pieces of material that I'd missed. More than likely, the same is occurring in your case.

Edit: I came here to post about the carbon fiber skins I purchased on Ebay. I got 3 for $10 of the black skins and they are pretty dope. It adds texture so the unit isn't so slippery. I know some folks went the DIY route as I would normally do, but time is short these days.

I also have a small RYOT smell-proof case on the way thanks to you folks!

Still diggin the PAX...getting better and better results each day.

Not sure if this is known, but it's new to me so I thought I'd share.... If you put a dab of wax(bho) in the middle of your herb load....Oh wow. Cloud city. I was not fond of my Pax before this (too weak), but now I respect it.

I thought I should share this Pax video here. While the vape is not very good with large volume pieces, it does it job to fill it up if you pace it out right!

Vimeo only allows one HD video a week if you're a unpaying customer.

What were you using to adapt the mouthpiece?

Just passing time
I'm using some silicone tubing stretched over the mouth piece. The end of the tubing fits snug into my 18>14 low pro reducer. I'm not sure on the size of the tubing. I have lots of random sizes and just found one that works. It's a pain in the ass to get the silicone on there though usually.

Interested in these skins as well, mind posting a link for them?

Took the Pax with me skiing for a pretty unreal pow day with a buddy on Sat. Skied all day and the pax kept us entertained for the drive there, all day skiing, and then drive back on a single charge (went through 4 bowls on medium). Only problem was reloading in the windy conditions (40-70km/h). Had to find a nice calm spot in the trees which is never a problem haha (great time to take a piss break as well).

As suggested, I kept it stored in an inside pocket (on my shirt as i think an inside pocket on my jacket would allow it to get too cold). No problems with battery and much more discrete on the charlift than combusting. Quick heat up time was awesome, click it on when we are at the front of line and by the time we're on the lift it was good to go (still under or very close to 1 minute in these cold temps)! Even took a few spills and the oven cover never once came off. Not worried about falling on the Pax at all either since the construction is super solid. My friend is wanting one too now haha. Two thumbs up for skiers and no messing around with lighters, etc in high winds! I would totally recommend the Pax over other portable vapes for anyone doing sports and taking their portable with them.

Heya Maryjane,

Thanks for the reply! Sounds like things are working out fine then! I know early on a lot of folks were concerned about the battery life, and that it wasn't covered by the warranty. Great to know yours is holding up well and has about the sort of loss I'd expect to see over time.

I wish I would have purchased my Pax earlier, and perhaps I could have put that charger info out earlier too! :) You still have that cool jump starting pack though. I do love camping and also have a jump starter pack in my trunk, just in case! :)

Thanks again for your reply, and Pax on! :)

ON Another Entirely Separate Note (Microshower Users PLEASE help!)

So I received my 14mm Pinnnacle microshower tube today from yoyokid (already have the tubing and 14mm M2M connector to get it connected to the Pax!!), and I think I got a defective unit. Hoping someone here can help me identify whether or not my microshower unit needs to go back for an exchange.

In the bottom chamber of the tube, the "mushroom" in the inside of the glass has what appears to be about 10 sort of tear-drop shaped holes in it. These are definitely holes, and when you draw, the vapor comes through the center post, up and out of the inner tubes and into the water through these 8-10 holes.

In the upper chamber, the "mushroom" has 3 horizontal slots (2 on one side, 1 on the other), and there are 3 bumps, not holes, in the shape of the tear-drop like holes in the bottom. These 3 bumps sit at the very bottom edge of the upper chamber.

The way I figure it, when one fills this thing, you do it from the top, in the upper chamber. Those 3 tear-drop shaped bumps I believe SHOULD be holes, not bumps, are there to allow not only the fill water, but to allow any other water that makes it into the upper chamber, to flow and drain back down to the lower chamber.

When I fill mine from the top, I am stuck with 1/4" of water in the upper chamber, as the only way for the water to drain out is through the horizontal slots, which are near the top of the upper "mushroom". Those 3 bumps I believe are supposed to be holes, if they WERE holes, would allow the water to drain back through. As it stand now, they're "decorative bumps" on the inner mushroom of my upper chamber.

My question is: Do I have a defective Pinnacle microshower, and should those 3 "bumps" in the upper chamber actually be holes?

If not, and they're all made like this, can someone please tell me how to use this thing then? It's a mystery to me, but like I said, I suspect I got a defective unit without the appropriate holes in the upper chamber

Thanks for any assistance my brothers and sisters! Been waiting on bated breath for this thing and now I'm really disappointed. :(

A picture would help, but it definitely sounds defective. You should be able to pour water in the top, which then flows through three vertical slits to end up in the lower chamber. Sounds like you don't have the open vertical slits, just 3 bumps.

Mine has the three horizontal slits you mention, then down lower has three vertical slits where yours has 3 teardrop shaped bumps. Those bumps should definitely be open for water, air, & vapor to pass through.

2 Paces my brother, thank you SO much for the quick reply! Indeed, you nailed it without the picture, it's the what-should-be 3 vertical slits in the upper chamber, and mine only has 3 vertical "bumps", nothing can pass through them, and that explains why it won't drain 1/4" of water from the top chamber.

I love you guys at FC! :)

Thanks again, time to respond to yoyokid and get a replacement, your help has been immeasurable! :)

Hello.

I want to share a very glamorous but very thin, comfortable and keep the smell locked cover.
You should buy for you and your girlfriend- http://www.amazon.com/Christian-Dior-Skinflash-Radiance-Boosting/dp/B002T3SL7A
This product is packaged in a velor bag - perfect size for Pax. Pax is located within a very tight, very comfortable pack and get him. Cover longer than pax for 2 centimeters. It can be used for the ties or gag. but without that "it works".
I put forward Pax mouthpiece, and if the working chamber is empty - the smell stays inside.

A Christian Dior very good makeup but expensive. Your girlfriend will like it. Cheked on me. Look at my groomed face on my avatar!

Ready to show photo "Pax and cover together", just do not know how to attach
