Id like to see Semtex vs Rumble..
Rashad will beat Rampage.. Especially if he takes him down and holds him down.
Nate Diaz will beat Gray Maynard again this Monday coming up.
Nick Diaz will put the smackdown on Zaromskis and show why he is a top 10 welterweight.
Nate will beat Maynard if (IF) he can pull a sub like he did against Pelligrino, and before the clock runs out. Maynard is a tough dude, but similar to Rashad, he fights to not lose. If Maynard ends up decisioning Diaz I dont foresee a title shot for him. And IF he somehow does get the op to face BJ, then he is (how does Fergie say it - A Done Dah Dah)

Nick is a top 10 gatekeeper. I love him as a fighter, but I still always see him as being a gatekeeper cause he cant manage to keep a decent streak going. I hope he can prove me wrong cause I really do like him as a fighter.
isn't nick on like a 4 fight win streak as it is?

Okay I am going to bitch here because I am vaked and on my 3rd IPA.

Saddened that Mackens wasnt able to pull it off. Ive followed and commentated several of Macks fights and have been a fan of his for years.
Happy with the Brown win.
And I hope that Hendo Jr beats the everloving shit out of Jamie Varner. Jamie 'i dropped my middle name cause it was gucking fhey' Varner (It was The Worm). This clown talks too much shit, while whining his ass off at the same time. I officially became an anti-fan after his Cerrone fight. He was grating my nerves even before that, but that fight solidified it.
Grrrg... Back to the fights

The upcoming Vera/Jones fight is getting me really excited. For me, this is one of the more intriguing match-ups of the year and I really think it is a toss up.

Before the Hamill fight, I would have leaned towards Vera because of the way Vera's greco did against Randy Couture's. After seeing Jones ragdoll Hamill at will, I began to believe that this guys ability to get takedowns in a creative manner was unparalleled.

I think that Vera will out class Jones on his feet and I am most interested to see how Vera fights off Jones' takedown attempts. Too bad Versus is no longer available on DirecTV, I'm gonna need to find a place to watch this event.

Gonzaga v Dos Santos is gonna be interesting as well. I'm a big believer in JDS and I think he will plow thru Gonzaga. Gonzaga doesn't do too well when the heat is turned on him and JDS definitely likes to take the offensive.

Although this fight has less implications, Kongo/Buentello will also be fun to watch. I'm pretty sure Kongo will overwhelm Buentello with punches and leg kicks. I've never been impressed with Paul, but he always finds a way to stay in there to throw one of his signature haymakers. Kudos to the UFC for offering a quality, free card.

UFC 111 thoughts?

Carwin's a beast, smart guy too. From what I remember, he beat Mir faster and more decisively than Lesnar did. Carwin vs Lesnar will be good.

It was as if GSP was content to use Hardy as wrestling practice. The armbars looked pretty brutal but it almost looked like he was holding back just a hair as not to snap it. I thought he might have worked his stand up a bit more in the 5th round, but domination is domination. Clearly Hardy had no business being in there, it'll be interesting to see how he fares against the top welterweights. Gotta suck for him after talking so much before the fight. That cocky smile needed to be wiped off.

For those who missed it, you can google mmator.

Carwin absolutely SMASHED Mirs face, amazing... I wasn't expecting that. Someone in the UFC needs to tell Mir to check his ego and move down and start banging in the middle of the division... he's just not as the level of Lesnar/Carwin/Cain/JDS and if he is, he needs to work his way back up. Getting the interim titleshot in itself left a bad taste in my mouth, he didn't deserve it.

GSP vs Hardy, whoever set that up needs an uppercut.

If you take out the 2 submissions (which were awesomely brutal and I DO think he was trying), complete and utter snooze.

5 rounds of boring shit... ok cool GSP, we know you can get them down but at least do some damage. 25 minutes on top of Dan Hardy and he barely scratched his face.

Dan Hardy didn't deserve it, his only good win was over Mike Swick, he has no place going for the title. Hardy will have to mix with the thick of the division now and that's got some scary dudes, Koscheck would roll right through him (except getting them to shutup will be the hard part)... shit he hasn't even stood up with Rumble Johnson, who IMO would DESTROY Hardy.

Good event.

Seriously sadface though for the guy that wanted to standup/avoid ground game slipping on his first kick then getting caught in a submission instantly and getting his knee FUCKED... seriously sad.

I think the one everyone missed was the Matt Riddle incident. He was working some GnP in round 3, and took a NASTY (illegal) upkick that pretty much incapacitated him. Was he legitimately KOed or just playing it out cause he was ridiculously tired? Either way the kick was hella illegal and he won by DQ.

i don't understand why upkicks while you have someone in your guard is illegal. It is the most effective defense in this position and why does it matter if your opponents knee is on the ground or not?

Someone needs to talk to the athletic commission and let them know that knees or kicks to a downed opponent is no worse then when you kick someone standing up.

I can understand why you don't want soccer kicks to the face or foot stomps, but when someone shoots in and you sprawl out, he is ripe for knees to the head. If GSP could do those things, I don't think it would have gone 5 rounds.

I dunno, upkicks to the face while you are on the bottom should not be taken away from the fighter, otherwise they will do like Hardy, put in butterfly hooks and grab GSP's arms to neutralize. Just my opinion.

I was doing the happy dance to see that cocky ass Mir get destroyed, he is one of the biggest front runners. If he had the 1/10 the fight in him that Hardy did, he would tried to do something to escape the fence instead of having that deer in headlights look.

Gomi/Florian on wednesday is gonna be FRESH! that's right I said it FRESH!

I was bummed that GSP wasn't able to do more damage to Hardy. That kid seemed like a chump from the moment he flashed that cocky smirk. God knows what he was thinking acting that way when going up against one of mma's best.

That said, in Hardy's defense he took those arm bars like a champ. I can't believe he walked away without any broken bones.

As for Mir -- I haven't seen him fight before and don't know much about him, but I don't know how you let in so many upper cuts in a row. Part of it just has to be the weight class -- guys who are ~250 don't get to pack any weight onto their heads, so strikes there are a lot more damaging than in welter or light. But still, if a fighter doesn't have the presence of mind to get his arms up when he catches one on the chin like that, what is he doing in a title fight?

...I like the way you think. :D Damn I miss Pride FC. There are so many instances in fights these days where I'm watching and I'm like damn he's totally open for... and then I remember the neutered rule set that the fighters have to adhere to. The fights could very easily be so much more dynamic.

Speaking of Pride, anybody catch Fight Night? Sometimes being a little guy gives you a speed and grapple advantage. And sometimes, you're just too goddamn little.

Plotinus,
The only Fight Night match that I saw was Gomi/Florian. Wow, Gomi looked terrible. But he has for some time now. Even prior to getting beat by Nick "Dank" Diaz. :D Props to Kenny though. He looked great and has accomplished a LOT more in this sport than I ever thought he would. Which fight were you referring to Plotinus?

I was able to catch that fight as well. (so many UFC events these days, it's hard to catch them all) I was bummed too. Admittedly, I haven't seen a lot of GSP's fights so I may be wrong here, but he seems to be more of a "gentleman" martial artist. He had Hardy seven ways from sunday, and could have easily finished most any of those submissions if he had a mean streak in him. Also, no elbows dropped, no hammer fists, nothing. Seemed content to utterly pwn Hardy via ground control. Clearly a supreme athlete, it would be nice to see him fight with more intensity, and to finish fights.

Yeah, I classify GSP as more of an athlete than a fighter. Obviously he is extremely gifted as a fighter but I think his style is more predicated on his athleticism than his budo or "fighting spirit".

If he had that killer instinct, he could've snapped Hardy's arms just like Aoki did to that Japanese cat at the last dream tournament.

I'm a huge GSP fan, but I dunno if he could've survived his own onslaught the way Hardy was able to

I think it's just a guy who knows he's on another level. The Spider's last fights at middleweight looked like the same thing. They could have stepped out of their comfort zones by keeping it standing or taking it to the ground respectively, but if you can dictate where the fight takes place I guess that's your call. Both could use a real challenge. GSP vs Silva or Silva vs Shogun?

I'd prefer to see Shogun/Silva cause I think Silva is a really, really bad match up for GSP. While Spider's takedown defense isn't the best when someone gets a hold of him, he has such good footwork that people hardly ever get a hold of his legs.

Anderson is just too good at moving backwards, or circling and throwing punches and kicks, making it extremely difficult to get in takedown range. Plus, dude is a HUGE middleweight, walks around 220 ish in the off season. The way Anderson dealt with Marquardt and Henderson give me a lot of confidence he can deal with GSP's wrestling, as excellent as it is.

Usually I'm not hyped for heavyweight fights, but the Carwin/Lesnar match has got my juices flowing. My prediction is that the winner of that fight gets his clocked clean by Cain Velazquez.

Rampage/Evans aka black on black crime (Rampage's term, not mine) is gonna be REALLY fun to watch. I cannot think of any way that this turns into a snoozefest. I hated Evans until I saw what a good coach he was and what an idiot Rampage was.... I'm pulling for Evans, lesser of two evils in my eyes... but Shogun/Evans or Shogun/Rampage gets me hot and bothered too

Oh yea... Paul Daley... what a dumb ass!

LAME. Thats so fake it is not even Austin Powers funny.

The Spider cost me 300 bucks on the Griffon fight. I still want to see a rematch. GSP would not be able to match up. I dream of Anderson getting his ass beat but unless Shogun can do it after defending three times which is about how long Dana has stated before he would let him fight Anderson because Silva doesn't deserve it. I agree with Dana. Anderson Silva should do better in every fight. The day he gives 100% for even 15 seconds to a knockout I will be a fan. Until then he is a clown with Superman abilities. A Hitch. LMAO.

Overeem kicked ass last night. Looks like Arlovski's days as an elite heavyweight are coming to an end.

As far as your feelings on Anderson Silva goes, you can look at it two ways. If you look at MMA as a fight, then yeah, Silva didn't live up to his end of the bargain.

If you view it as a sport, then there should be no issue with what he did. No one ever complains about a defensive minded football, soccer, basketball, hockey, etc etc team. Why should you complain when a fighter does his job to win?

The showboating, the silly antics, I don't really care for them myself. But if Silva wants to win by decision everytime, then as a sports watcher, I have no issue with that. Champions are in the enviable position where the challenger needs to take the belt from them.

Silva is a counter puncher and if the opponent doesn't press the fight, then Silva sees no need to put himself in danger. Anderson doesn't owe the spectators anything other than to continue winning.

Do I think Silva was an idiot in his fight against Maia? Sure. Do I think it's Silva's obligation to entertain the fans? No, not really, I think it's his obligation to win, if this is indeed a sport, we need to treat it like any sport. The more we lust for blood, the more it just makes it seem like a cock fight.

To me, this is a sport, and in sports, the goal is winning. That is why, even though I don't care for it much, I don't fault Silva for his fighting style.

I agree with your first sentence. Fight to win and I will be a fan. He fights to get a decision sometimes which is like saying I'm only going to play just hard enough to barely win. (Like if Payton Manning was coming out in the third quarter of a playoof game up by 7, NEVER HAPPEN) It is very bad for MMA for him to clown a challenger for 3 rounds.

SmokieMcP,
wow Overeem. been watching him for a lot of years and not really a big fan, but I was impressed with the way he absolutely dealt with rogers.

Silva v Shogun. Silva is too big for GSP

Shogun/Silva would be fire.

If Rampage gets past Rashad, I'd like to see Shogun kick his ass again too.

Rashad/Rampage should be worth the price of admission, the trash talk has been entertaining and I know both will come to win.

Shogun and Silva still have a bit of work to do before they start talking about jumping weight classes to challenge for a title. Who do they think they are? BJ Peen?

Silva would give up middleweight title to fight Shogun at light heavyweight. Shogun won't be moving and Silva has already beaten Forrest Griffin so I don't see Silva having to do much more to prove himself worthy to challenge for the title. Perhaps another win over a top 5 LHW will be enough to get Silva a title shot.

Carwin ALMOST did it... ALMOST... but this ain't horseshoes as the saying goes. One of the best heavyweight fights I've seen in terms of action, drama, and of course, the come back... who woulda thought Brock would win with an arm triangle

@chucku - He can be a national collegiate champion in wrestling (Carwin was as well) but what does that have to do with winning via arm triangle? Maybe you can elaborate on your comment but if your point was that I shouldn't be surprised that he won because he was a collegiate champ in wrestling, all you need to do is google "Kevin Jackson" -- I'm willing to bet that less than 1% of the population thought that Brock would win via submission.
