Hi,

just got my ascent, I'm wondering a few things about it, maybe someone could answer.

first does it have a automatic shut off when it becomes fully charged, i.e. i don't have to worry about leaving it plugged in overnight, I'm especially concerned when I do my first full charge...

second, how long do ya'll suggest to burn off some of the off-gas from production?

aceofdisasters,
Batteries can't charge past their full capacity. And as for the second portion of your question, I'd leave it on 430 a couple or a few times for 30 minutes or so

StraightChill,
So it's 11pm pacific on a Saturday and MY ASCENT JUST DIED!!! Meaning it won't heat up at all. Just shows 73f. Tried plugging it in shows charging but still no heat increase...anyone have any ideas? Or how I should go about returning/replacing this unit? I'm in canada. It's a stealth 1aa1. So very upset right now ;(

Hello. Have you try switching on/off the bowl heater with the buttons menu and +/-? It's just an idea. I hope you get lucky

Same thing happened to mine, you will need to send it back to be replaced, contact customer services and they will get it sorted for you.

For whatever it's worth, when I got mine I tried it before even charging it, since the battery display showed it had a partial charge. It began heating and then stopped within seconds. I connected the charger, and it still wouldn't heat (maybe it can't run on the charger alone if batteries are depleted?). I just figured the battery was too low in spite of the display (maybe battery display wasn't yet calibrated - it takes a full cycle or two until readings are accurate, on any lithium-based battery system) so I left it to charge for a few hours. Thereafter is has worked fine for me.

You might try letting it get a full overnight charge. It is possible, depending on your usage/recharge pattern, for the battery gauge to become miscalibrated over time. A full recharge (leave it on the charger overnight, not just until it says full) will usually recalibrate it.

Hey guys a few questions when you fill up the bowl all the way (with a fluffy grind) how much do you think is put in there?
How many hits of vapor would you get from that on about 350,365

I'm starting to notice that I don't think glass flowers on the bottom of the bowl help much. I'm still using a couple on top, sticking down like thumbtacks, it's more for blocking pieces from entering the stem. Still experimenting a lot and things keep getting better and better. Ill be experimenting with organic cotton next week. I want to try wrapping some kief in the middle of a piece of cotton. I've already sprinkled kief in with ground up bud, but I want to try vaping straight kief. Kief helps me a lot medicinally and I've got a huge supply. Some of my strains of kief taste great using a pipe, I'm curious how they will taste vaping. Another thing that I'm noticing is that there is no need to stir to bowl. All my vape sessions have produced evenly vaped bowls. The less fiddling the better. This unit is starting to grow on me, although its going to hard if not impossible to give up my joints completely. For me there is a noticeable difference in the high and at times I'm looking for that joint high, usually in the evenings because joints sedate me better. I'd like to hear more about what types of high people feel after using the Ascent compared to combusting.

I love the Ascent, but the Pinnacle Pro does a pretty good of extracting from the herb. Also the Solo does a good job too. Sometimes it's nice to have more than one portable vape.

I use a variety, to whatever mood I'm in. January 1st. was my 1 year anniversary from combusting.

I say, always have a backup, you don't want to regress and go back to combusting.

Fuck Combustion!

So as I said my ascent stopped heating up yesterday. I'm leaving it on all night and day (just LCD in timer mode) to drain the battery and than I'll recharge it overnight and if it is a battery software issue (which it seems like maybe) it should work after the battery is completely drained and recharged/calibrated. Wish me luck.

Edit : Really hard to waste battery without heating ;) if anyone has any tips I'm all ears.

Good luck Chester

I'm curious what the results will be for future reference if i have to reboot mine for some reason.
Please keep us posted.

Surprised there is no public information on how to do a factory reset on the ascent....still trying to kill battery barely moved

There can be any number of reasons for that, including there isn't one.

I think makers put a hardware reset somewhere (often a pin hole switch) sometimes but not always. Such 'hard boots' usually happen with power ups (removing the batter for a bit) as well. They typically advertise or at least label this when they do it.

Software resets
(soft boots) also happen, but I think less often over all and often 'hidden' in that they are kept secret from customers. The Solo would be an example here? Or the Vapor Blunt 2. Both have such 'secret features' that have been discussed here, but not generally known by their customers.

If it was available (not a given) and they wanted customers to know (for whatever reasons) they would no doubt tell us as much. I think we have to trust their judgement here?

You don't find instructions how to do this with you fancy new car or cell phone, right? Hey, they don't even tell you how to turn off that damn "Check Engine" light......other than bringing them the light and a LOT of money of course.

I would hope in 2014 everything would have a factory reset type command to purge any data etc. if there isn't they should definitely consider adding it.

I am confident in saying they have no doubt considered it well already, but by all means feel free to suggest it to them? I've had some modest success making suggestions to makers, in the end it's their call.

And, as I just said, such things have been around for some time, but there are IMO legitimate reasons for not making them 'user accessible'.......I've been involved in just such decisions in years past.

Damn I'm starting to think that I need another one too.. as for me as a trying to stop smoker, one that delivers a real feel to the lungs and a good cough would be helpful I think.
Any suggestions? Too OT? --let's see it 'compared to the Ascent'

Well I have been a long time lurker and occassional poster but I am posting after reading through a large bulk of this thread with a couple questions I have.

I currently own a solo and a pax but am looking for a third vape that will satisfy my need for a vape that will work with concentrate. I really love the way this one looks and feels (was able to toy with one at my local headshop).

I love almost everything about this except I am just clarifying that many of the issues have been resolved with the latest models? (Mystery smoke, units stop working after some time, bad finish, etc)

Also I would use this for herbs as well as after reading through it appears herbs work great but for concentrates does it work? Is it good? Decent? Sucks?

Obviously if I got a dedicated concentrate only vape it would work better but I really like everything about this unit. I just can't return it after use so I need to make sure this is worth the purchase if it will be primarily used as a concentrate vape with herbal use as a backup to my other vapes.

Hey,

now it's been a week with the ascent and I'm very satisfied with the device. Using cotton for filling the space in the bowl & preventing particles to enter the glass tube, I'm achieving good results in terms of medication, but there's still something to be desired left when it comes to vapor production. Having followed you guys here for quite some time, I wonder what you think about the following glass flowers:

The problem is that I live in the EU, and therefore I cannot buy those "amazon flowers" everyone's using. Someone recommended the above glass flower screens as being the best option in Europe, but do they really fit the bowl (they come with a size of 10x13mm, so I'm not sure whether they are too big)?

Someone did find the same glass flowers across the pond. Not sure if it was ebay or what, but it's mentioned in this thread somewhere. (There is a search function that will search only the thread you are in.)

In terms of the bowl, I measured it, and it is in wikipage found in my .sig in the bowl section.

Thanks for your quick reply, according to your vaporpedia page the size of the bowl is : Width:~17.0mm x 9.28mm. The 9.28mm are the crucial point here: since the glass flowers are 10x13mm, will they fit the bowl?

The bowl is an oval, so the 9.28mm is the center widest area, so no.

The other two dimensions I could not get digital calipers into, so I had to mark on paper and measure the mark. So, they should be fairly accurate, but not to the number of decimal points.

You can, I did. I guess we're living in the same part of the EU. So if you're willing I can share the half of my 40pcs bowl with you; still waiting for the package though.

For the waiting time you could try leaving the cotton out of the bowl.. got a feeling that it's a bit counterproductive to clouds. I just put smaller portions down a bit and it stays in place. To don't let particles get into the glass you could just use a tiny layer over the holes, let it get dirty, or one could really use the metal screens that came with it..they do kinda fit in the seal, covering all holes, not sure if mentioned yet

thanks a lot for your kind offer, I would love to have some of the glass flowers but you would need to send them to Spain (I'm German but live in Barcelona) ..
One thing in your post is weird, though: This photo seems impossible to me, how did you manage to get the grill & the inner bowl on one picture ;-)?
