Yup. Some people view the Constitution like fundamentalists view the Bible.

Sorry. I might have misunderstood. I get the analogy, but comparing a mythical book of stories to the founding document of our country, especially the Bill of Rights, is silly to me.

To compare religion and the constitution, you'd have to make the point of people just picking and choosing what they like about it, and running with it with no real knowledge whatsoever. Then I'd get it. Welcome to America lol.

@arf777 I get what you are saying...kind of. But my rebuttal has to be from the mouth of James Madison himself.

“[The Constitution preserves] the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation (where) the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.”

But I never compared it to the Bill of Rights. I never even mentioned the Bill of Rights.

I also never compared the Bible to the Constitution. What I did compare is how many people view such documents. The religious fundamentalists do not view the Bible as a mythical book of stories. They view it as actual fact and interpretation is out of the question simply because it is "Gods" word, and as such, it is what it is. In a very similar vein, Constitutionalists view the constitution in much the same way. It is what it is and shouldn't be fucked with and that it should be interpreted by the definitions of the terms used at the time it was written without any regard that a lot of shit has changed since then.

Those that authored the Constitution did not have an inkling of how things would be today just as those that authored the Bible had no inkling of science to help explain what they were experiencing.

This is the comparisons I was trying to make.

Also, sincerest apologies to shady for helping to take this thread so off track. Sorry.........

No.......you're an old crank 'cause you contradict yourself. ;)

No, I didn't.

While I agree that the constitution needs updating in certain areas, I would not change a fucking thing about the process required to do so. Because I don't represent the majority required to ratify change.

Also: religious fundamentalists are batshit insane. I am not a constitutionalist, that is more of a libertarian thing and I see myself as more of a realist. And the reality is that without constitutional protections we are totally tea-party fucked, so as I said I wouldn't change a fucking thing.

I love this thread. I knew a thread named "Schizophrenic" would be.....schizo.

@lwien - You agreed with @zymos statement. Your exact word was "Yup". I must have just read it wrong. I've been up for a few days so shit happens.

Just out of curiosity, do you feel the Bill of Rights should be changed and/or "interpreted"? I'm with you on the rest of the constitution to a degree. Amendments exist for a reason. It's also hard to make amendments (remember when GW was going to outlaw gay marriage with an amendment?) for a reason. It is a living document.

The Bill of Rights, for me, is a literal document. No real need for interpretation. 500 years ago, last week, doesn't matter. They are basic liberties that should not be infringed on. It's pretty cut and dry in my socialist eyes.

In the end it doesn't matter. The country has already wiped its ass with it, so what we believe doesn't really make a difference. That's the root of the problem. The people have no power. It's scary.

I totally think the 2nd amendment needs to be interpreted. Preferably in a different way than it has been, but it's probably to late do much about it. Arf77's post above is fascinating, and I'd love for those ideas to get more exposure.

I stand by my statement, and lwien did a good job of explaining about the fundamentalism one sees associated with both of those documents.

I think I see the term "living document" the same way as you. The whole idea, to me, is that it should not be set in stone. Like the mythical tablets...

And I also apologize for how for OT this has become.

Has anyone ever experienced ego-loss? Psychosis?

Anyone meditate? What type of meditation works for you? I find that "new age" chakra stuff to be bullshit and diverting of real meditation, but wondering what you guys practice.

Anyone believe in the Soul/Spirit?

There has been some indication that nicotine is beneficial for those suffering from schizophrenia. Might want to look into that a bit more, if you haven't. I would be cautious about using weed...as beneficial as it can be for alot of things, any psychoactive drug can make matters worse, when you are dealing with illnesses like schizophrenia and other types of mental illness.

I suffer from severe depression and anxiety, and often find if I use too much Sativa, it will make me go bonkers. So I tend to stick to indica and hybrids and use them in a controlled manner, like my other medication. I also consulted with my former psychiatrist, who gave me the green light, as long as I used it sparingly. So even though you have had negative experiences, I would still encourage you to keep hunting for a good doctor...they are out there, and very important to have on your side, no matter the illness.
No. I've probably smoked 2 packs and i'm 25. Maybe 2 cigs a day for a week one time. Don't like this.

These are the Questions and answers the psychiatrist asked me before my counselor/psychologist sent me to her for medication after "accepting" treatmet;

-Do you smoke cigarettes? No. I tried, didnt like it.
-Are you psychic ? What do you mean?
-
Can you read peoples minds? No, but I can read peoples body language and vocal tone. That helps give indications of peoples intention.
-How do you believe so? There's a saying called "Know Thyself"...when you get to know yourself and what makes you tick, your reactions to certain situations, you get to learn how others react similarly. People are predictable, so am I.
- I see.
-Do you believe you have some type of super powers? No. (in my head..sure lady, i can climb walls and shoot web out my dick.
-How is your libido? Its alright. Little less than when I was younger.

-Well, it seems to me, based on what your Dr. has written on your file and on the test you took that you do exhibit some psychotic symptoms and signs of schizophrenia. I'm going to prescribe you this medication that will help you; Risperidone. It's only 0.5 mg but it will help you gain weight, take it at night before bed. It will make you sleepy. This will help you, you look a little thin.

Thinking: Fuck you lady. Somethings not right here. I feel set up.

I had a psychotic episode. It led to my dx of Bipolar I w/ severe psychotic features. He said that is subject to change so schizoaffective bp type is a future possibility. The treatments are he same so the label doesn't matter much. 2mg risperidone and an SSRI. The risperidone seemed to really fuck me up. It's much better with the Seroquel.

I reached the state of true meditation when once when I was 13. Everytime I went under, I'd ruin it by thinking how cool it was. Have never been able to acheive since.

I can't say I believe in souls/spirits. Too much religious affiliation with those two words. However, I do believe in a certain "energy".

God damnit. See, now you've triggered the "I got it on the tip of my tongue but I can' fucking remember it" syndrome. Last week I saw a really interesting movie which attempted to answer the question about soul mates and deja vu's. The premise was that when we die, our souls enter another body, both in the past and in the present. Movie kept traveling between times tracking the same souls. Damn.............I can't remember the name.

Did you watch in online? Maybe check your browser history?

Didn't watch it on line.........DVR'd it from Dish.

Edit: Just remembered. "Cloud Atlas". Worth a look see if you're interested in this kind of stuff.

Cool, been meaning to watch that one.
In a similar vein, have you seen "Mr. Nobody"? Might be hard to find, I had to torrent it a couple years ago. I don't think it has ever been officially released in the US on DVD, though it started playing in independent theaters recently. Well worth the effort to find it if you like head-trippy mind bending flicks.

I meditated once with MJ and reached a point of "Kaleidoscope" eyes described in The Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (LSD). Most beuatiful thing ever. Also had some out of body experiences where my imagination was a vivid as a movie screen. I was flying around an uninhabited 'earth' with beautiful landscapes. I could also build architectural structures, in the form of 3d blue prints and fly through them. Happened few times, but like you, got excited (ego attached) and havent been able to do it again.

The fact that treatment for everything is the same, made be believe there was no such thing as the labels psychiatry gives; but some type of spiritual evolution the people 'in-charge' have tricked people into believing is a illness. The fact social anxiety is treated the same as other heavy illnesses, makes me wonder if people develop a certain 'perception' but are ignorant to it. If you have a new 'sixth' sense and there is no name for it in your 'education', you're going to be left lost and baffled...since most of the illness's we "know" are learned from 'authority' , textbooks, and hearsay.

That "new age chakra stuff" is well over a thousand years old...
So is the bible?

I just don't, "feel" anything when meditating on my chakras. It feels distracting. I can meditate and make my entire body tingle to the point of discomfort, raise my heat to the point of sweating, and feel weightless, but never any chakra 'points' or whirlpools.

Could you give details on your experience?

Yeah, I really enjoyed it but I suggest NOT to watch this vaped in that there are multiple story lines going on at once and it's kind of easy to loose track of where you are. One of the neat things about this movie though is that it encourages you to watch it more than once, and for me (watched it twice), I picked up a whole bunch more stuff the second time around.

Agreed, I watched it vaped again and again until I got it all.
There's quite a bit to take in :science:

oops just read this on wiki:

"St John's wort is associated with aggravating psychosis in people who have schizophrenia.[26]"

It's not an anti-psychotic, it's more like lithium--for bipolar not schizophrenia.
But without the toxic side-effects of lithium.

Just trying to keep things historically accurate.
Crystal healing, "The Secret"= New Age.
The Upanishads= ancient.

The reason Lithium carbonate is toxic is because it does not cross the blood/brain barrier easily and must be given in large doses to be effective. Lithium orotate is Lithium bonded with oratic acid, it crosses into the brain with ease, so one can supplement with small amounts of Lithium without toxicity . . .

I think I did experience egoloss one time. I'm not completely sure, maybe I just was close to it, but from what I read about egoloss I think my experience fits that description. it was on shrooms, and I semi-accidently took a larger dose. I felt like I was everything around me, everything was part of me. at the same time, everything was me. I felt like there was no time, past present and future where all condensed into one. it wasn't like they disappeared and only the present remained, no, time truly didn't exist and all were one new thing, a mix of past present and future. leading up to it, talking with the friends I was tripping with, I felt like they were also a part of me, like they represented different parts of myself.
my past life semed so far away, like it was all just a dream that was fading away. therefor I didn't even know if I even really knew the people I was with, it could've been I just met them the day before, could also be I knew them for years. since 'home' felt so far away, I made the decision/conclusion that everywhere where I am, is home. this gave me the freedom to take stuff out of my pockets and don't obsess about forgetting stuff.

I sometimes meditate, not regularly though, I just sometimes randomly feel like meditating. I can only meditatye with the assistence of my singing bowl, I don't have any spiritual ideas about meditation, I just knowe it makes me feel kind of high. when I first got that singing bowl and I used it together with a group of friends, one of them even got red eyes, and when we later met some other friends they wouldn't believe we were sober.
I meditate more often during the summer, since I like to do it somewhere outside with a nice view.

I don't believe in the existence of any kind of soul/spirit, I believe we are basically machines made out of flesh, our brain decays, we are gone. I also believe in determinism, so I believe that, if all factors are known and you have a super powerfull computer, you could calculate/simulate the entire future. this also means I don't believe in the existence of free will(however, the idea of having a free will can still influence choices).

i do meditate on occasion and find its useful, for me its a means to return my angle of focus to baseline when circumstances "throw me off" and i cant seem to mentally think myself out of it. some things i do for this include singing bowls, coloring mandalas, floating on water, and sand meditation...any of which is worthless if i keep searching for some answer, have to let go and only focus on the bowl or pencils or sand; its a mental process of its own. the more you know the less you need.

also known as "priming". Even families members admit they were given several drugs before finding the 'right one" that works. Same story, different mouth. Seems to be a common factor excuse for psychiatrists.
Your paranoia is getting the better of you. Different drugs work differently even if they're in the same drug class. A dose of caffeine and a dose of meth (both being stimulants, mind you) will feel very different even though they do the same basic thing. The fact that everyone's physiology is different and the fact that we don't really have a "one pill fits all" solution is the reason people have to "prime" for the "right" drug. Oxycodone is stronger than hydrocodone at around 1.6x by weight, yet I vastly prefer hydrocodone to oxycodone for my physical pain because the opi-rage (opiate-triggered annoyances) and constipation are more obvious with oxy compared to hydro. That's not priming, that's my body not liking one specific chemical structure more than another.

And yes, I've had ego loss before from high psychedelic doses. I've also triggered it from getting way, way, way too stoned.
