Great Scott!
This kills me that I don't have this yet lol. I've got a glob of some Sensi Star BHO waiting to give this a few test runs. I'm antsy to get rid of the nail. The nail is a fun process, but it feels primitive, mildly dangerous, and kind of a hassle.

We do appreciate the fact that you are being vocal about the process here. We also appreciate updates here at FC, and you are doing a great job of keeping us updated.

We are honoring the $250 price point. We just had to get creative on how to do that. It was a very large plan of implementation which I can share if you guys prefer. Well one point is that out Dewar joints cost $40 as a list price. So we innovated that connection and saved $25 a unit. We also switched to asian borosilicate for the bowls. We are only importing the raw material and we are having it blown right here in Berkeley, California. This lowers costs for you, us, and your replacements/upgrades if desired.

I am happy knowing that our efforts to open-source our process have gone appreciated here on the forum. We know we "should" release a product in a more anonymous fashion, in turn protecting our intellectual property more efficiently. (Final model will still be patented)
However, business isnt built on plastic, patents, and profit... its people, and we know that.

Thanks again FC, we will have more updates for you by the end of this day.

Leiana - I really must commend you for being what I can only say is a role model for all types of businesses in all industries - you say the right things, give lots of helpful inside info and seem to have your head on really straight fending off the sharks here. I really hope that nothing bad happens with your straightforward open sharing to cause you to change your practices. I for one greatly appreciate the insight and knowledge sharing you are facilitating. I have learned QUITE A LOT reading this thread. I can't wait until this is field tested and we get some FC user reports. I previously was targeting an EVO or a Sub2.0 for my next vape, but the Versa is quickly moving ahead on the list.

:tup::rockon:, great news. Is the final product name Versa Infinity G1?

Sorry if my comment came off as jaded, your approach to build and launch this product just seams too good to be true, so you can't blame me for being a lil' paranoid, ;).

So while watching the videos I noticed vapor coming out the back of the unit. Just an idea, and not sure if would be possible, to build some kind of check valve to prevent this from happening. Haven't seen any vape vendor use one and thought it would be such a simple little tweak that could prevent a common issue with using water pipes.

I was amazed when I got one with my aquarium. Didn't have cool stuff like that when I was a kid, :myday:.

OMG.
The vape should be shipping next week. US residents will have it sooner. Some international people didnt pay proper shipping but, we dont care. Merry Christmas.

Check valve: @Tweak
We will contemplate this.... It wont work for the halogen heating element but might work for the ceramic. The check valve wold have to be placed after the bowl to work with every heating element.

Here is my write up about being able to leave the nail/skillet behind
If you can at least afford a vape that can do concentrates, you can drop the torch. Here's what we plan to do to make that more accessible to people:

The G1 // ~ $150
We are releasing a lower end model, It's price is around $150. Same heating performance, alot less features. That's the G1. We dont want to call it an Infinity because its not interchangable. Its based on the Infinity MK I, It's cheaper, still glass and built with the same cerammic heating technology. Its not meant to replace the Infinity series but it will allow people to get into the space of using high performance plug-in vaporizers without the high cost.

The Infinity MK II // $249.99
Concentrate monster with the day job of a vaporizer. Some of you may have tested the technology, some of you have one on the way. Its way to becoming a great vaporizer at a great price. Directly influenced by its public feedback, this will be the testing grounds for how far this body style vaporizer can go.

The situation with the nail / skillet
Depending on your torch a TI nail could see anywhere from 800F to 1200F. We all enjoy the ritual of heating up a skillet but it poses similar health concerns as traditional smoke. The only reason we dont see it as traditional combustion is because we done see the ignition occur. However look at it with this prospective: Supposedly cooking smoke takes 1.9 million lives each year. Carcinogens are to blame but long-chain fatty acids being combusted is connected.
Fatty acids touching a high temp heat source too long creates smoke.Try it with animal oils or cooking oils on a skillet in the kitchen. Thats roughly the same temp or lower than what a TI nail or skillet reaches when heated with a torch to a red glow.
When medicinally active concentrates touch a high heat source directly, the long chain fatty acid structure cannot break down gently thus resulting in carcinogenic smoke being generated.

What we offer for that
The G1 and the MK II can heat concentrates via heated air at roughly 750F using fritted glass or steel puck. Having both prices accessible to gives water pipe concentrate users a new low cost alternative to the typical nail while still offering a variable heat daily driver for the herb.

Ill explain our hypothesis using this simple example of water:
1 drop of water vaporizes at 210F but to vaporizer 250 drops of water in the same amount of time you would either need to
A. Apply the heat to more surface area of the liquid.
B. Use a higher heat

Why oils are different
Water cannot smoke. Oils can vaporize & smoke.
Oil Vaporization is the gentle release of the Long-chain fatty acid
Oil Smoke is the harsh release of the long-chain fatty acid

Better vapor
Since oil is more complicated, you must apply more than 1 solution to achieve fast vaporization but avoid the smoke:
A. Air flow
B. High Heat
C. Surface area (puck or frit)

Note: The amount of smoke avoided will be heavily determined by the purity of the substrate. Normal plant material can still combust if you go beyond its recommended temp for vaping.

How hot air saves the day
The air carries vapor naturally, once the hot air grazes the long-chain fatty acid of wax the substance begins to heat. As soon as the substance is heated to vaporization, it carries the substance vapor away immediately, reducing the ability for the material to turn carcinogenic. In turn becoming easier on your lungs and better for you than smoke.

The TI nail can be measured with a laser temp gun but its more complicated to get a proper temp to avoid smoking the oil.

Disclaimer
We cant say how much carcinogens are reduced as a result of using the Infinity, but we can say the inhalation is smoother than the skillet or the typical TI nail application.

In the video we posted about using wax with the Infinity, its the most accurate representation of how
vaporization takes place with with wax. A small dab being vaporized properly should last quite some time and likely will not make you cough. Of course it all depends on the strain and the extraction method.

Start at 55 seconds
As you can see in the video. The process isnt instant like a nail and requires a few seconds of priming before the substance begins to vaporize. Once it does begin, its thick and stays for a long period of time and was not harsh. No coughing took place. The stepback motion was to ask about the vapor coming from the top. People typically should remove the vaporizer on the end of an inhale on vertical pipes like this to avoid vapor recoil.

I'm Done
I hope this post helps you understand the dynamics of concentrate extraction using units like the Versa G1 and the Infinity MK II.
I'll post pictures tomorrow, glass is in the oven.

Thanks for the heads up, I better stop procrastinating and order some adaptors for the 18mm joint.

I am bubbling with anticipation to try a full convection vape with oil. It sounds far easier to control good vaping temps for concentrates then a nail or skillet. I personally am not putting dabs on a nail at 900f + but not everyone has a fluke and high heat thermocouples or the time to spend finding the proper temp of a particular nail to dab size. I am still on the fence about concentrates and smoke vs vapor. So if I fill a nail bowl with oil and heat it the vapor will mix with the oxygen and with ignition will combust and then there is plenty of black smoke, I think this is different from what you are talking about though. On the other hand concentrates done at low temps smolder and produce a ton of reclaim and I don't care for that either. the DaBuddah nail kit is a perfect example of this, it takes 30 secs to do a dab and the wand, whip, and water pipe gets claim throughout them in just a few sessions.

Seems like it won't be much longer until I can make my own conclusion! I am ready.

Shipping in about a week sounds amazing to me. The video doesn't work, but your post has me amped up...right before bed. Better have one of my last TI dabs for a while haha.

Yep, We are trying our best to make sure everyone has the units as early as possible. The more time we have for input between now and the release, we can provide tweaks on small things like the control unit. BTW any new control units can be purchased at cost for those who are in the Beta. The will swap right into your Infinity MK II setup.

thanks leiana I only use flowers so i guess the G1 would be for me!
We felt like alot of people would feel that way. The G1 basically the vaporizer you've been seeing in the videos. All the bowls will be interchangeable with the Infinity. It should come with some nice ones too.

I just picked up a gram of BHO for this. Can't wait. I literally can't wait...I've been doing baby sized dabs, but I get no flavor on the nail. I either over or under heat it. I can't wait to actually taste my dabs. I love the fritted glass idea.

Maybe I can help a tiny bit. I like small nails, 9mm and 14mm DYD nails are my favorite for my small dabs, I notice many folks like much bigger nails with more mass and these will take more time and energy to get to the temp you want.

I heat until there is a slight glow, this is in the 1000f + range! full glow and it is over 1150f which is as high as I can measure. So once I see the slight glow I stop the torch and do my dab within 5-10 sec, the nails I use are generally in the 800-875f range which I find to be a good temp for flavor.

Damn, your excitement darkrom is infectious! I am starting to squirm around hoping to here shipping news and I know it won't be for days to come, lol

Having used other vaporizers with serious heat outputs, that apply very hot air to vaporize oil,
and also having dabbed the nail well over a hundred times,
I have always found a high-powered convection vaporizer to be smoother.

I just haven't had a model that made it easier or quicker from start=>finish.
But it should surely be possible with the right device!

You have dabbed a nail a hundred times? I have dabbed a hundred nails this week. Be sure that I will put this unit through its paces. I have well over 30g of oil to test and knowing myself I will probably put 20 g of oil through it in the first couple of weeks with various users.

30g of oil? Man, I wish I lived in a non-hypocritical state. :(

Leiana, I hope this is not a dumb question, but what exactly do you mean by a "new control unit"? How does it differ from the control unit that will arrive with the model we purchased through the beta testing program?

Don't feel bad. I'm in a medical state, and I can barely afford a gram here and there. Even more expensive when I make my own, but its higher quality.

So do I, but this the state I have lived in for the past 40 years

So the G1 does flowers?
G1 does it all, it just doesnt have interchangeable heating elements. You can upgrade the body to an Infinity later.
The Infinity base station will also interchange with the G1. The G1 uses a standard control unit which doesnt have the features of the Infinity new control unit but we dont have an exact date when that unit will be available because the mold creation process is complicated.

Question 2
Someone asked what I mean by interchangeable control units and what does that mean in reference to the ones people will get in the Beta.
Beta control units are not final. You will be given a chance to upgrade to the new one when it becomes available. Only the body of the vaporizer is final. We are doing certain overhauls to support the major current demands of this new halogen heater which btw takes 500 ridiculous watts of electricity aka, 500W.
We are also fine tuning our implementation of the voltage meter. We need to have a user guide showing ____ heating element produces _____ Temperature at _____ voltage. We also have implemented some amazing styling into the mold. Air pump will be built in to the final unit. You will be pleased.

Ummm... Yes?

Definitely just as awesome.... I kinda like it this way but this is just to show you how effectively designed our interchangeable heating element is.

@Madcap79 make sure you check the OP occasionally as well, it also gets updated.

I really like the design, white is very Apple ish, I'd prob get black as that doesn't show as much when it gets dirty. The clear model to show innards is really neat.

I really want to see the bowls that have been mentioned.

I hear ya. I just don't get why I stopped getting updates? If you subscribe to a thread, shouldn't you get updates. Just my two cents.
