Classifieds - how do bank notes, cashier's checks and money orders work

Hi - I can't use PayPal to sell in the Classifieds because PayPal has banned me for life. They won't tell me why, which seems odd.

So now I need to know how bank notes, cashier's checks and money orders work with FC.

I did read the Classified Rules, by the way. I didn't see anything about using these alternative methods.

I would imagine that's an agreement you would have to come to with the seller. but a money order is basically a pre paid cheque that you pay for upfront and then mail to your recipient. I don't see why someone wouldn't take it, but you never know. you also pay for the service too. so overall you pay more than you would straight cash. but sending cash in the mail is not a good idea right? "cringe"

very odd about paypal.

I edited out the item you are selling because it is against the rules to mention it outside of Classifieds.

Our rules don't dictate how you have to accept payment. Anything that works for both you and the seller is fine. PayPal is the usual choice because it gives both parties some protection. As far as FC is concerned, you can use a bucket full of pennies and that's fine by us.

If the seller/buyer agrees, then your good to go, but you may want to think about using an Escrow service to protect both yourself and the buyer from scam. And out of those three, I would do Email Money Transfer as there is still some recourse with your bank if the charge is invalid.

If you're the seller it's easy to prevent being burned with check fraud. Simply hold off on shipping until the money is either completely in your account or in your hands (cashed)

Bouldorado got it right perfectly. If you're they seller, simply state that you'll take either Postal Money Order or Check, and will ship once they clear and you have the money.

I like Postal Money Orders better than regular money orders. If the post office has the cash they will cash in the Postal Money Order right there.

Just to make it clear, the forum has nothing to do with any $ transactions between members. It's just a place to post an ad. As pakalolo said, once you make contact via 'conversation/PM', you can work out any deal, with whatever kind of payment suits both parties, that you like.

Now I want to post something in the classifieds with a cost of a "bucket full of pennies - the approved FC payment system"

That would discriminate against us Canadians, since we no longer have a penny.
