Discontinued Indica Vaporizer

My friends call me "Menz"
Right on! Thanks sticks. I've been a zippo collector for a long time, that is what initially sparked my interest. The form factor alone drew me to it now knowing that the performance is on par may very well merit a future purchase. How much bigger than an actual zippo is it?

while i can't find an indica next to a actual zippo pic for comparison.... @1_gr8_underdog did post a pic here comparing the size to other lighters

Here's the temp settings:

Cyan =171c
Blue = 181c
Green = 191c
Purple = 201c
Red = 211c

All temps are +/- 2.5 to 3c

It is rated to get to temp in 70 seconds. I'll time it next time, but remember this is dependent on ambient air temperature as well as design, and it's really cold in the US right now!

VnC...I wish I had a zippo to compare...want to send me your favorite one?! :lol: If you are fond of flipping the lid open and shut you will like this thing. It was designed to sound and feel just like it.

does the Indica work with a similar screen as the pax or do they have a better solution?
How about cleaning, with the 90° angle between the vapor tube and the oven opening, easy or a hassle?
On the website you can see a small hole on the tip of the mouth piece, is that where you have to squeez the pipe cleaner through or can you remove the mouth piece for cleaning?
Does it have the same odor (on/off) as a pax
How long does it take to charge the indica? does it only charge trough usb or do they deliver some kind of high current charger to charge it faster?

I like how they are honest about battery life on their website, (1 hour) stickstones said between six and 10 sessions, depending on temp setting, that could go well over an hour.

*edit*
looking at the website again answered the question about the screen and maybe about the charging time too, maybe there are differences irl? (note to self, do more research) looks like square screens, so probably only available trough them if you don't want to go cutting your own
is there a designated space in the indica to store the vape pick that comes with the indica?

Dimensions for VnC:

1" deep
2" wide
3" high when closed

I am using it now. It took about three minutes to get working on the middle temp and another couple of minutes to get visible vapor, although I could taste it well before that. It is 64 F in my house right now. Clouds aren't like the Solo, more like the PN. I am using a half load with the spacer, as always. I'll bet if I could push myself to fill the chamber it would get much thicker.

@Belgianvapor -- It comes with a screen, but I prefer to use it without it. No bits have come up the tube. The small hole is the mouthpiece. It comes off to reveal a larger tube going to the oven. You clean it with the mouthpiece off and a pipe cleaner. I haven't used it enough to need to clean it. The charger is a usb cable with a wall adapter for it. I assume you could charge it on the computer, but better let Indica answer that one.

1x2x3.... So about the size of a pack of marlboros. That be a bit larger than a zippo. Lol. But what the hell I already have a giant zippo so this should fall somewhere in between. Lol

^^^ not my actual zippo but mines just like that.

Is the outside really metal like a zippo, or is that chrome plastic that rubs off after a week?

sticks has already mentioned this, but it bears emphasizing: the original Indica sent to the beta testers was a disappointment. Frankly, the beta team was quite negative. We unanimously thought the Indica was doomed to be a failure. We were not prepared for Indica and his determination to make a great product. Many manufacturers don't really conduct beta tests. Rather, they send out early release models but make no provision for changes. Indica is not one of those. Instead, he took our criticisms on the chin and kept revising his design until he came up with something that really works. This, I think, is perhaps the most significant thing about the Indica: the manufacturer is open-minded, willing to accept criticism, and prepared to fix problems. I'm looking forward to seeing his next project. Meanwhile, back to the one at hand.

We felt that the Indica had to perform at levels comparable to the Pax, which is the big seller for this style of vapourizer. I'm here to reassure you that this goal was met. In fact, I think the Indica beats the Pax in some areas, namely temperature choice and ease of cleaning. In terms of vapour production, the Indica is at least as good as the Pax, and in my opinion, delivers better flavour.

The Indica is well packaged and arrives in a handsome wooden box. It includes spare spacers (which improve performance with small loads) and a second oven door, as well as the typical assortment of cleaning tools.

For those of you concerned about size, here's a comparison:

TucF6dO.jpg

In terms of weight, the Pax weighs 93 g (3.3 oz), the Ascent weighs 193 g (6.8 oz), and the Indica weighs 154 g (5.4 oz).

The oven capacity is .22 g lightly packed. If you packed it tightly you could probably get it up to .25 g or so. I prefer small loads and it was important to me that the Indica could handle my standard .07 g. Indica took that as a goal and hence the spacer was born. With the spacer, the Indica handles small loads with the best of them.

One of the things I found was that the ABV from the Indica is quite even, and darker than other devices at the same temperature. This would indicate great extraction. Despite the fact that the Indica, like other conduction vapourizers in this class, is heating the load constantly, I haven't noticed as much flavour degradation as I get from the Pax (for example).

I haven't done any testing to determine battery life, but one feature some of you will appreciate is that the Indica can be used while charging. I wound up having to do this for one of my tests and it does get a little warm to hold, but nothing bothersome.

Anyone looking for an alternative to the Pax that is much easier to maintain should give the Indica serious consideration. It's pocketable, attractive, and the manufacturer has gone all out to produce a great product. You can see the rest of my Indica pics on my imgur page.

looks great.... how do you think (taste, efficiency, and ease of loading/unloading) it compares to the Ascent or PNP @pakalolo or @stickstones?? i know the Ascent's semi-all glass airpath way will probably beat it out for taste

also... do you think the MFG will offer an FC discount??

Sorry for the delay, I meant to reply to this and then got distracted.

I don't own the PnP, just the original PN. All of the devices you listed are similar in that they are session-style, meaning that once you heat them up they continue heating the load until you power them off or they time out. The flavour suffers as a result. To be honest, I have not done a head-to-head-to-head comparison. Going strictly by memory, I'd rank the Ascent first, the Indica a little behind it, and the PN slightly more so. I don't think you should read much into that though. I'd say that the Indica is as good as any constant-heat device as far as not adding anything to the taste goes. The vapour path is long enough to cool the vapour a little and so it is less harsh than the PN, but not quite as smooth as the Ascent.

I don't know what you mean by efficiency, but the Indica spacer makes it perform well with small loads. If you mean extraction, the Indica consistently produces the darkest ABV for a given temperature. It's almost black when you use the red setting.

I think the Ascent is the most awkward of those three to load and unload. That's because you can't easily stand it up so you need two hands. The Indica isn't too bad, but you have to watch out if it hasn't cooled down. The metal plate inside the oven door gets pretty hot, and of course so does the spacer. The oven opening is recessed and you have to be careful when loading it to get everything into the oven without leaving crumbs around the ledge at the top. This picture shows the plate on the door and you can also see a little into the oven. The silvery line is actually the top of the heating chamber.

Unloading will usually require some poking around in there with the vape pick or some other tool. I haven't used it enough yet to acquire any build-up. The vapour path itself is easy to clean. It's straight and you just poke a pipe cleaner through it, maybe dampened with ISO. The wire brush should get the oven clean when the time comes.

This is very encouraging seeing that you rate it pretty high pak!

To be clear, this is not my style of device. I prefer heat-on-demand systems. Since I don't use constant-heat devices nearly as much, people should take my opinions with a grain of salt.

What impressed me about the Indica was the determination and commitment to excellence that Indica showed throughout the beta process. He was not deterred by negative feedback, and he did what great designers do: he used it to improve his product. Since I don't think that's likely to change, I'm confident that he'll support it well and continue to improve it.

I can recommend the Indica as a competitive model when compared to the devices that it is up against in the market, i.e. session-style constant-heat models like the Pax, the Ascent, the Pinnacle, etc. All of these work well and I really don't like ranking them. People will rank them based on the things that matter to them, and everyone is different.

I'm a convection whore myself. Pak, I'd recommend the firefly for your particular tastes for a portable. Now for me I think the indica will be great. I liked the pax other than the limited temp settings, the flavor degradation, the huge oven, and the bitch of a time cleaning it. According to you the indica seems to step it up in all of these areas. So..... sounds pretty good to me. Thanks for the review. I take most peoples reviews with a grain of salt but, I take opinions of really well known members and mods more to heart.

I'm waiting for one more review to determine if I should jump the gun. I have a friend ready to give me $280 worth of herb for the Pax and I have no problem doing it since I have the PnP.

What I'm hearing so far about the Indica is that it is smaller and stealthier than most portable vapes and performs as well, if not better than the Pax (and cleaning is more hassle-free). Also I wouldn't be forced to use .3-.4+ all the time. And it's only $200. It all sounds good to me.

I have a question about the spacer, are they only for beta testers or will every order come with one?

Also I am wondering about what grind works best with this vape (loose, medium, fine?)?
