I'm not sure the Iolite will be the easiest for her to use; it can be a bit finicky with the butane switch and the clicking. Plus filling with butane can be a pain. I personally think that the Solo is easier to use for not much more money and is in almost every way a better device.
Thanks for the tip, I will research that one and might hit you up with a question or two after i do my part of the research on it, but do you mind linking me to product to im sure i am looking at correct one? like just a random shop or google search?
Thanks man

Mvaps how do you feel about the "Solo" ?

BTW i think I am gonna LOVE this forum!
I am on grasscity also under same name as here, i have a canadian medical cannabis log with photos goign that many seem to be loving, would it be bad to post a link in a new threda to it for those interested?
I know usually forums dont like links to other forums, but since this one is unique I am not sure if it would be wanted or frowned upon here.
Im not pushing the forum, its full of many dumb young kids with no respect for the plant, but there are some good areas also so i stick around.

anyway CHEERS!
I think I can foresee another Solo user coming in. Check it out, same idea as the IOLite in many ways but uses a battery. And the stem/bowl has many options. 2 buttons.
Go to the last few dozen pages. (It's a long thread.)

I agree completely. You'll need to refill every few sessions, and spraying butane around is not for the timid or unsure.

I agree, a Solo is a great call. Very simple to use (provided you can deal with push buttons (2), easy to recharge, good for maybe 8 sessions between charges.

IMO easier to use than a cell phone.......

@blergs I was wanting to suggest the NO2 seems even easier then the solo. Maybe a Solo for you and an NO2 for her.

edit; Also both Arizer and Vapir are both Canadian based companies if that means anything to you or your Grandmother.

This is a tough one for me. But in certain circumstances I have to recommend something that I may not be interested in, but in fact may be what's best for you, or another's situation.

There are a few very affordable options on the market. When I think of some thing that is portable (not stealthy), easy to use, and affordable I would have to say something like an No2. It has a simple and easy interface, rechargeable, and has an easy to see back-lit display..

Now by all means, this is far from what I would say is one of the better portables available today. But for your situation I think it may be a viable option the get you and your grandmother started with vaping.

Vapir products are sold all over the internet, I'm sure one of FC's supporting retailers offer's discounts and finding one would be no problem.

Good luck...

thanks, i think i will be getting her the solo, my aunt it now caring for her mostly, she moved in this year (my grandma) so she can always set it up and just give it to her since she cant read, or it buttons are confusing for her. for me though, when i say portable i mean like something i can put in my pocket. i already have a plug in vapor and if it ever breaks i will likely get the solo or something like it ( then if i feel like chillin in backyard or go camping i can have it charged),

but for now i am looking for me more something i can put in jacket or pants pocket.
I am still leaning to the lolite for me, but an getting you guys feedback first because there might still be something better for me.
better rec than the lolite? ( for dry herb and hash's, not oils)

I want to thank everyone for their input. maybe i shoulda made a new thread for this, didnt think it would go so in depth.
All the input is VERY much appreciated! You guys are very kind!

U might want to look into the newer Whispr made by the same company. The mouthpiece is flexible so no worries about it breaking and looks like a juice box.

Also the DaVinci is similar but battery powered.

I would say the Solo dosent look as stealth for granny. The pen style vapes are not as good for dry herb. If portability is not a concern, a log vape like a Underdog and Heat Island/Toasty Top is super easy to use.

I like Iolite, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it as a 'pocket vape'. Yes, it fits (if you unscrew the stem) but it kinda ends there. It takes several minutes to get it rolling, it makes noise and you can't just shut it down and put it in your pocket on demand.

Perhaps a Pinnacle? Fits well in the pocket, fairly fast into action, can be pocketed hot if needed, runs quiet. And avoids the 'always needs butane' issue. The original DV might also be worth a look, kind of an 'electric Iolite' with temperature regulation? It can get hot too, but IMO not as awkward as Iolite?

Good luck with it, but with the 'Solo for mom' it seems you're off to a good start.

Thanks, stealthy is not of concern for either of us really (both legal users), just want it to look more medical and less like a pipe for her. for me its about something i can put in my pocket. I am now looking at the lotus, but will likely mostly use its top peace for my bong. so may still get something else self powered like the lolite or what ever.
I cant believe the price for the lotus though. I feel its a bit high IMO

The stuff i have right now is a little damp. I put it in the Iolite and try and have a session for about 15 minutes with me sucking away but i don't really get high.

By all means dry it out and try again.

Not only does wet rob heat that would normally make vapor, but the moisture seriously increases fouling. Load it dry and it'll go a long time between cleanings, put less cured bud in and you'll be stripping it down every time you turn around......

Ground herb has worked well for me, though I have also had some success with full melt concentrates and kief by mixing it in with some herb

It's designed to run on herb, unless you're careful concentrates will foul it up and be hard to remove.

I've had good luck with as much as .050 grams of bubble hash as long as there's a layer of bud under it to protect the bowl and over it to keep the screen from fouling out in one load. It does tend to foul out much more quickly this way, but the load lasts about twice as long.

I would not advise a full load of any concentrate, nor any concentrate likely to run when hot. If concentrates are on the menu I suggest a vape designed for them?

Good luck with it.

herb all the way then... but not damp herb, right?

Yup. If you keep it dry going in, it stays LOTS cleaner. The other thing you want to guard against is poor quality gas. Guys have got contaminated gas in and had troubles getting it all back out.

Treat it right and it's a great little unit for sure.

Hello, just wanted to update, I looked into the others, the Solo ( which if my plug in vapor every breaks the Solo WILL be my replacement for home use) and deeply into the Davinci ascent but can not justify paying over 100$ more for it over the Iolite.

I think I have made up my mind and will be getting the Iolite for myself and am pushing my aunt to get the Solo for my grandma.
found a decent deal on ebay, about $150 with shipping and comes with the optimizer .
I hope I am not making a mistake, but seems most like the Iolite and even if running out of butane is an issue some complain about, i can always have a big one at home and one of those little refill cans in my bag if im going out for a while, otherwise im sure one fill will be enough for the afternoon down town, dont smoke much. and if not ill pay the 1$ for a can at the store if i really need to.
I also consume alot of hash so i like that when i put my black afghani in it it worked pretty well.

if the ascent was $100 cheaper i would have picked that one... but i still want to buy a peace (hopefully glass that i dont need to suck the flame into) for my bong to make it into a vaporizer.
I want something along the lines of the Vapocane, but that is under $30-40, any ideas?

Thanks for being a big help guys!
I hope I will be happy with my Iolite! :-)

The optimizer is not a truly useful tool.. and does displace a small amount of herb.
You can buy an Iolite today directly from
at Iolite.com for 129 with free shipping.
No free optimizer... oh well.
The Iolite is a very reliable vape, if you clean it well and often and gently...
and if you use the good stuff.... in fuel
5X filtered... and not off brands that have a stamp on them that says "5X".
Vector is my choice.

Shit! Usually the site that sell the product are over priced or at least not a deal!, like the solo for eg...

I feel like a dummy now for not checking.... So the optimizer really doesn't help that much? if so then heck ill get it from the direct source! and if i ever want the optimizer it would have cost me the same as getting it all at once anyway.

I will see what they have at homedepot or canadiantire for fuel, and i will keep in mind to get atleast 5x filtered.
Thanks!
