@canjoo I can definitely agree with the price/playability concept. I think the fan assist coupled to water cooling (via Ion for me) is top notch. I have not tried blowing bags, but that will be how I start my morning.
The precise nature of temps has really helped me better enjoy a sativa that would normally be to heady for my tastes. I use 420, and the effect has changed to a more calm, sedate, squinty status. I can say that my desktop stable is now down to 1 machine. I am sure more high temp/concentrate tests will follow as well.
For those who are still waiting, you will not be disappointed. To me, if there was ever a vape that really stood up to the cost/performance challenge, the Herbie is it. I still have much love for my second hand Cloud + to be sure......

Idk about most versatile, but I agree that herbie's pretty damn versatile. Just saying that the evo and ssv and a few other whiz-bang units like herbalaire can make different claims of versatility.

But herbie is the most advanced, most elegant herbal vaporizer ever to exist, I don't think that's too much of a stretch. There is virtually no heat up period. The packaging is damn near apple quality. Every detail is awesome. It tastes even smoother than the sublimator with dry vapor and that's saying quite a bit.

Putting it through its initial paces with a few buds (started right up with intense mode), the most common comment was along the lines of, "I wasn't even sure I was inhaling anything, and then I let out these huge clouds". I am happy to say that this device got us all intensely medicated :spliff:

I'm really looking forward to exploring the lower temperatures, but have no worries on the upper end of the spectrum; herbie extracts quite well. I believe that herbie will be pretty economical with medicine but time will tell on that. There's a lot more but yes I'm very pleased with my new friend.

Happy 2014 !

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
Received mine late today and have been absolutely delighted with basic non-fan assisted whip vaporizing so far  It's providing exactly what I'd expect in vape performance for the price I paid on a current high end device. The stealthiness (in not looking canna related) is a major plus, and the fact that it's non substance specific profile fits in with an more 'adult' appearance setting in the open. And the function of aromatherapy is both a perfect disguise as much as a perfect opportunity to enjoy and experiment with another realm of herbal health.

I definitely need more time with the Herbalizer to learn it's full capabilities, and I'm confident that this journey is going to be quite pleasurable without doubt

I need to strain backtrack to something I'm more used to vaping with my current to date daily favorite Solo for a better comparison because today I just happened to finish a cure on an early taken (mostly clear with some cloudy trich'd) Chocolope Haze that I filled my PHES stem with it so I was at least using the same amount, dumped it in the Herbalizer bowl, set it to 190C (374F) and 'partook' at that temp for about 20 minutes. I was way beyond 'affected' of former elations, my injuries pain completely gone, and my mTBI centered. And imagine my further surprise when I emptied the bowl only to find that I hadn't even cashed the herb fully :o So as I said.... I definitely need more time to experiment and experience to properly compare, even though I have a feeling it's device effect related and my 'new toy' is now to be my BEST TOY  I absolutely love the option of tight temperature control and the heat up time is truely remarkable.

Now, I'm a sold Sublimator fan when it comes to WoW hit factor, and I love my dabs, but from what 'I' experience from the Herbalizer with its much less obtrusive appearance in my lazy boy spot, along with its temp precision has me believing although they play in the same efficiency game.... they are two completely different experiences and situation players. I'm also anxious to try dabs on the extra aromatherapy pad in the bowl :brow:

I do see and agree with others mentioning about the lid(s) short coming, although not a deal breaker in the least, as a positive 'click' clasp closing is more desired IMO, as well as 'very slight' flimsy feel of the lid in the closed position. Don't get me wrong.... I don't feel it's cheaply done nor at risk of breaking with its design, however, at this price point and purpose that it would have been nice for the little details to have been forethought.

Doubt I'll ever use the bags personally...maybe for a gathering of friends just to say 'Oh Ya' as I never liked bags myself since it reminded 'me' too much of huffers. Personal bias I suppose :p

Need to find some essential oils to play more with the aromatherapy side. Defunk is 'ok', but not my thang I guess. Didn't help that I couldn't figure out how to get it to drip and ended up putting the mesh over the little bottle top and giving it a shake which was a huge mistake ending in a 'defunk' bath. OH MY ! And I'd also like to now find a good source for some dried herbs to experiment inhalation of same since I now have a device that can be accurately heat controlled.

Anyways.... I'm rambling :ko: and all to essentially say... I GOT IT ! I'M VERY HAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE, AND I LOOK FORWARD TO FURTHER PLAYING WITH MY NEW TOY ! :smug:

HAPPY NEW YEARS

Has anyone had to replace a bag yet? I have been using it since Monday and I had to use a new bag because my first one was sticking too much.

I remember that when I was playing around with it, I was able to figure out how to replace it. Josh made no mention but said I would be able to figure it out, and I did. Of course, my memory isn't the best of that night, and I don't have a valve in front of me to help...

Almost there...
I am working on a Herbie review but have one question no one else has mentioned.

If you have put the Herbie through some of it's paces and used both herb and essential oil, has anyone noticed that their herb tends to taste a bit like the essential oil??
My herb tends to taste and smell like the DeFunk oil when i vape.

I have put only a few tiny drops on the metal pad but the entire unit smells like the oil now.

I think for herb users it may be a good idea to store this stuff separately from the vape?
Not sure yet as i will continue testing.

If anyone else has any experiences like this, please share!

I feel like I called this back in the summer (post-436361 or pg 26). I said the 2 chambers should have been better isolated from each other. but it was also stated it was too late to change the case as the metal mold of the unit had been cast months prior. The pics are gone, but i recall the mod I had in mind that would fix it. very simple too. (a simple wall to complete the circle to enclose the vapor path from the aroma path) possibly a DIY project for those so inclined?

I dont have a herbie yet, but I will be on the lookout for this situation when I do! thanks for bringing it up.

Here are my thoughts on the aromatherapy function... It's ok but definitely could be better and here's why.

I am really into aromatherapy but I find Herbie to be weak in this area in general. While the included "defunk" oil is certainly "strong"... strong enough to permeate a room because of its "pungent and distinct" aroma, I am not a fan of said scent. Also the name "defunk" implies that the room was funky and I don't like to think that anywhere in my house is "funky". So that in itself kinda turns me off.

Now when using more delicate oils like ylang ylang, or bergamot, the room penetration is much less. Where the Herbie does excels is, is when you fill a bag, then switch to aroma while you are enjoying the bag. That works relatively well, provided you are sitting in close proximity to Herbie.

Now with my log vapes for instance, a drop or 2 of oil will cause the room to "explode" in warm relaxing scents that last a while.

Maybe adding heat to the path of the fan might assist in diffusion of the oils. And like others have said, a latching lid should be mandatory and seems like a detail that makes you scratch your head as to why it was left out of the original design.

Still loving my Herbie in any case...

Just some tipis... Do no use the same pad you use essential oils on for vaporizing concentrates. Make sure you us one pas for oils and one for concentrates. I would not stack them onto of each other either in the lid. I leave the essential oil pad docked in the groove in the lid. Don't ever apply essential oil to the bowl area or put the essential oil in the bowl.

Now with my log vapes for instance, a drop or 2 of oil will cause the room to "explode" in warm relaxing scents that last a while.

Heat is part of the reason why you feel like it works better. Heating essential oils always produces a more powerful/pungent result. I stopped heating all my essential oils though because I found it was not the most therapeutic method. Heat can alter the scent slightly and make it less nuanced smelling. My ylang-ylang started to smell more subtle and complex when I switch to cold air diffusion or ultra-sonic mist diffusion. Heating up some essential oils can also change the effects/chemical compounds and sometimes pronounce the toxic effects. If you'd do apply heat to your essential oils try not to go above that baby bottle temperature or luke-warm. Although I try and avoid heating up essential oils at all.

http://joshealthcorner.blogspot.com/2011/05/are-you-diffusing-essential-oils.html

Currently my favorite method to use aroma therapy is through a ultra-sonic diffuser.

In terms of the lid design. I did some testing and I was swigging the unit around by the lid and wiggling it back and forth quite violently to try and break it. It managed to stay put together in one piece. I could see how some people would want it to latch. I think I the beginning I wanted a latch, but after testing it for awhile I don't really feel like it is overly important anymore. Curious to see what others think of a latch after they get used to the unit.

For anyone looking for an all-glass tube for direct draw, I found a good solution digging through some of my supplies.

@Alan (Heat Island maker) sells some small glass "nipples" that are rounded on one end and fit perfectly into the top of the Herbie bowl where you insert the whip adapter. Since one end is rounded-off, you can tilt/rotate the glass straw any way you want, up to about 45 degrees, before the "seal" breaks. Since the tube is not attached to the top of the Herbie bowl using flexible tubing, it is super convenient.

I'll try to take a photo later of my setup later, but below are some of Alan's photos.. Here is the nipple:

Here is a photo of one of Alan's roasting tubes using the nipple:

Thanks for the link, this is great info! I will have to look into an ultra sonic diffuser. So how would you compare Herbie as opposed to the ultrasonic in terms of performance? Is it worth it if I already have a Herbie?

The ultra-sonic diffusers are quite capable in their ability to diffuse the oil around the room. I find if you put to many drops of oil it can be quite suffocating. They are very good for large rooms. It does add a little extra humidity to the room. Keep that in mind if you have humidity issues already. I tend to put around 3-5 drops of essential oil in the ultra-sonic diffusers to deodorize a large space.

If you compare the ultra-sonic diffusers to the Herbalizer, it is a little less efficient. It does a good job for small/medium sized rooms. It fills the space with scent slower, so if you have a single note sent it might not smell as strong because your nose gets used to it by the time it fills the space. If you leave the room and come back after a couple of minutes the scent should be more pronounced... also coffee beans help rejuvenate the olfactory sense.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olfactory_fatigue

I intend to use the aroma therapy on the Herbalizer more as as a therapeutic delivery method. I want to put small amounts of essential oils 1-2 drops (like Mugwort) and inhale the compounds released. I will still get the benefits of the compound and that should allow me to not be overwhelmed by the odor or stink up my room with an therapeutic, but not necessarily pleasant smelling scent. I can't really do that with the Ultra-Sonic diffuser because it is too pungent even with 1 drop. I have not tried putting more then three drops on the Herbalizer, but I might try increasing the amount I put on the pad to see how much more I can disperse the sent around the space.

@Slightly Medicated Thanks for all of this great info! That's what I love about this site. People sharing ideas and learning from one another. It looks like I have been enjoying Herbie as designed for therapeutic purposes.

I will however be looking into one of those ultrasonics (thanks for the PM.) I am now also wondering about my log vape aroma cups... The blog mentions carcinogens being released with high heat. They do make a room smell nice for sure but is it worth carcinogens being released...?

I am loving the herbie plugged into my Pinnacle WT with a bit of silicone tubing. Switch on the fan and watch it bubble itself!

Thanks lazylathe for making my day :-)

Sure enough, the clam's assist fan easily creates enough hydrostatic pressure to clear the Pinnacle HydroTube / WaterTube. This is the bomb! I got a few massive, and very smooth hits @ 445F and the bowl was spent pretty quickly. Now I need to go head-shopping for a 14mm adapter.

I've noticed this too...I've only used the oil a bit but I was thinking that most of the time it was tasting a bit "defunky". Not really sure why. Can I just soak the whole bowl in ISO?
I ran a few hot fan cycles but it does seem to still linger a bit.

Other than that, I've been loving my new toy!!!
What a great little machine! Still need to get everything dialed in a bit...
As others have said, everything with the Herbie is top notch!
Packaging is great...Heat up time is non-existent, truly amazing!
I would like a magnet on the lid also to get more of a secure closing but it really doesn't need it.

I still have not been able to get as "Cloudy" hits as with my OG Cloud. Don't get me wrong, the hits are still amazing and somehow seem more potent? But they are still not as thick as with the Cloud.
I love the fan assist mode...it works great and I use it most of the time. Especially with my Mobius ION, it gets the bubbles going nicely! Don't really like the hit as much without it.
I need to get a real glass setup, I just have the whip shoved into a 14/18mm reducer and it actually seems to work pretty well for now.

How does SliM get such a huge hit on that video? Was that at max temp?
Even Vito taking that long whip hit @ 420 with no water? Damn, that's impressive!

Looks like I've got some practicing to do :brow:
Hope everyone is enjoying their new toys and happy 2014!!!

Always in a state of confusion and silliness♀
I take small hits and still produced huge hits with no fan assist. I also was using vito's per-production unit and we had to turn the heat way down from what he uses as I am low temp and he is a bit higher then me and he takes way longer monster hits then I do or maybe most lol. The fan assist was to much for me as it hurt and made me cough which is always a no go for me.

I haven't used herbie for aromatherapy yet, but I think I will just use it with dry herbs in this sense. I have many different dried herbs laying around like eucalyptus and mint and such.

I really like using my ssv in aromatherapy mode for essential oils, it just maintains heated paraffin in a dish and I drop the oil drops into it; it's instantaneous aroma, and quite a gentile heating method.

And I also have the oil kit for my ssv, so it is staying in operation, just not for herbs.

Idk if I will ever use herbie's pads for these reasons

Note to self: put the pads away in the lit bag so they don't get lost!

edit: Herbie continues to please. I woke up in the middle of the night last night, instantly medicated with the whip, then turned it up to max with the fan on and directed the forced-air vapor towards my cat, whose nocturnal activities had awakened me. We both slept soundly for the rest of the night.

Point of reference for those interested in bubblers: Herbie's mouthpiece fits perfectly inside ssv tubing. So there's a wide variety of glass available for herbie, from 7th floor and others.

WaterFilters_1.jpg

wfcm_5_of_10_.jpg

I have one similar to this with a sherlock mouthpiece,
and the mouthpiece of herbie's whip fits in directly so in this instance no adapting required.

I also have a tripod bubbler like in the first pic above,
and that will be easy to use with some ssv tubing if I want.

They're hardly necessary but still fun to use
