Vapor Sloth
What is this piece???
Looks like a candle holder that has switched jobs to become a hydratube holder.
It's a crystal candle holder or some such that t-dub has re-purposed into one very stylish hydratube holder
I think the ht itself is a sgw showerhead?
One of the early ones that came with the original cloud.
That is my Vapor Sloth original Baccarat crystal HydraTube holder . . . :D With the SGW ShowerDome.

I'd love to know exactly how this has been resolved? Have you changed to a new bamboo or just fixed the "heater" issues? What is going to happen to those who like to run our vapes at high temps? Will our bamboo crack down the road? As already stated, small sample size, but is there a 1:1 correlation between the broken heaters and broken bamboo. From users on FC, that doesnt seem to be the case? Has production stopped at this point to resolve the issue?

I'm going to give a simplified answer to this question as I'm regurgitating the summary from our engineers. There are two heat sensors in our unit, one on the PCB and one in the heater. There are times when the ambient heat that accumulates in the cavity where the PCB is housed rises to a point where the sensor does not tell the heater to stop heating. This is when you will start seeing an intense red glow and typically this is when the glass deforms and cracks. We have figured out a software fix that will shutoff the EVO if it ever gets to a point where the PCBs ambient temperature rises enough to confuse the sensor. We're also looking at alternative solutions that doesn't involve an auto shut off but at least we can contain this issue when it happens and you simply just reset your EVO and it will start producing those lovely clouds we all know and love.

For those that like to run it at higher temps need not worry, the runaway EVOs were getting FAR HOTTER than the temp required for concentrates and you guys (and gals) won't have any issue when the high end temp is functioning as advertised.

To answer @poonman question, the heater was wrapped fairly tightly around the glass to improve the heat exchange and heat up times but we've found that loosening them indeed protects the glass and not much heat efficiency is lost. The best news about this (esp for those familiar with the old Clouds) is that outside of the glass being replaced, all of these repairs are simple firmware upgrades and the EVOs begin behaving normally again.

Lastly, we have not halted production, we just slowed it down. Our first few batches went through personal testing phase with VXL employees but that obviously wouldn't scale once we pushed out more units. The last batch was the first that went out with our new manufacturing set up that was designed for higher production and a more scalable QC process. All of this is a learning process for us as we are fairly new to manufacturing ourselves and just following best practices to make sure that we track each batch and the results that we see and can quickly identify issues that arise. The good news is, mechanically, everything is functioning fine and in almost all cases (outside of replacing the glass) we simply had to do upgrade the firmware. Back to work for me!

Many of us have evos that don't seem to get hot enough for concentrates even after 30min on max. Do you know why some evos would run cold?

Sounds good! Can the new firmware fix the colder evos so that we can use concentrates too?

The short answer is "yes" but the more complete answer is that the way you guys are doing concentrates today, two cap method, mini elb, etc etc will not be required when our concentrates attachment comes out. It brings the concentrate closer to the heat source so crazy temps won't be required.

Just when I thought I was starting to get the hang of the evo, I had a combustion event at 2pm on the dial. The biggest issue is that sometimes I get thick vapor at 1pm, sometimes it's wispy at 3pm. I know it has to do with whether it's warmed up or not, but it seems impossible to gauge at this point.

I'm only a couple of days into it, so hopefully I'll get a better read on what the real temp is soon.

Hey @stonemonkey55, do you happen to have a ballpark timeframe on the release of that concentrate accessory? Spring/Summer or Summer/Fall 2014?

Hopefully before either of those. We're just really concentrating on fulfilling orders right now but I've been playing around with prototypes already. It already works but we want to tweak it a bit so that it has less of tendency to get messy.

Hmm, this is the first I heard that people are getting varying vapor even at the same dial. Try this, just let it warm up for a couple minutes longer at 1pm and see if the results normalize. You should start seeing whispy vapor when the light first turns green but after a few minutes to fully warm up, it should be the dense vapor that you are accustomed to. It could be that 2pm is warm enough on your unit to combust after a full warm up, hard to say without doing some more testing. Feel free to PM me your results and I can help you figure it out.

Sounds like the heater wrapping and firmware are the two culprits of the major issues to date I'd say? Thinking its good time for me to place a EVO order soon!

Still come with those rrubber wwrist bands?

Sound similar to me. Here's what I do. From a dead cold start I turn my Evo on max and wait for to turn green. When it turns green I hit it instantly and I get nice smooth blue vapor. Then I hit it again right afterwards also smooth blue vapor. Then I stir and turn it down to 3pm and hit it again. You'll notice when you turn it down to 3pm the light will stay green. Usually I pack my ELB's about half way and get 4 nice hits out of it. Then I hit it one last time at 3pm and then usually it's completely heated up so I turn it down to my normal temp which is noon. Just takes a little bit of playing around lol.

Thank you for such a direct and informative post! Exactly what I wanted to know (I'm sure others as well). My Cloud+ needs a friend with more stability than me ;)

Great Scott!
Seems like a LOT of problems for a third edition of a vaporizer. I should have never given my friend my OG ticker it seems like.

Bottom line of those of you with evos so far for this short period, does it even seem like a reliable product anymore? After waiting several months and still not getting it, I'm beginning to wonder if I'd be better off selling it as a brand new unit and never firing it up whenever I may get it. I want to like it and enjoy it, but I have horrible anxiety about my daily unit failing. If this is going to be the kind of vape where I need to make use of the (IMO) short warranty, I really need to consider if it is worth the gamble or if I should just sell it. There aren't very many high end competitors with any similar options, but reliability is important to me.

Any input on this? It jusst still seems like its not ready. Just from what I've been reading. Looking for either reassurance, or info about if I should just sell it when it shows up BEFORE i use it and devalue it. I don't know what I'd even replace it with is the thing, but I need this unit to be problem free. The ticker seemed ROCK SOLID. Issues were few and far between. Then came the "quicker heating" cloud+ without ticker. Failures were more common.

I honestly feel like there are already more reports of issues with the evo, than there were reports of issues with the tickers during their whole lifespan while being sold. If that is the case its not a good sign. I know they will take care of issues (for a year I believe) but even then shipping it back and forth and being down and out while it is gone is not something I'm looking forward to after a several month delay getting it in the first place.

Again, I don't have one, I'm not trying to bash it, just trying to get a feeler about how people feel about this unit long term. I don't just want a great vape for a few months...I want one that will continue to serve my medical needs, and I want this to be that vape, but if the harsh truth is it is not ready to be that vape, I'd appreciate the heads up so I can make a difficult decision.

Not really what I was talking about. Using the word restrictive and the EVO in the same sentence makes no sense. I was talking about the EVO's diameter, if your using a stemless piece the EVO may not get close enough to be able to fit into the gong - therefore you can buy an extender like the one pictured.

An Ion (like yours) is dewar, you could go direct! Why would you use that set up?

I never move it past 11 on the dial. Past 12 and it's taste awful and burns. Support ticket? Why bother, some can't seem to even get their original delivered. I feel my Cloud ( non ticking) was better . Is my unit under preforming? Idk, who can say, there doesn't seem to be a working standard. Everyone seems to have varying results. I still use it, still think it's a great vape. Some nights I do feel like getting my old cloud and packing the evo away. I had higher hopes, maybe next Gen will be the one. Recently got a new vape and IMO, all these companies need to up their game.

Not the first, a few of us have experienced this "combust at 3 / or think whisp at 3". Warm up time does have an impact, but that's the tricky part since the GonG goes green when it is 'ready' but what does that really mean if in another 10 minutes the Evo is way hotter to the touch. It seems the issue is lack of readout or feedback that indicates the difference between Green at the start, and Green later on in the session.

After more testing, I've found a semi-sweet spot at 2:50, more vapor than I can possibly inhale from 1/3 ELB, but the priming and spinning up the hits takes technique. At times I feel like to catch the vapor I need to rip back to back hits as quickly as I can.

I was able to vape Full Melt / Bubble has at 2:50 although it was not a 1 big cloudy hit deal, more like 5 decent hits (fear of combustion if I turned dial up)

On the fence as to whether or not my board needs firmware update, impossible to tell if I have the early FW or the improved FW?

For those worried about build/quality. My unit seems very well built, the bamboo looks perfect, the GonG looks perfect etc...

From a design perspective, I have the same suggestions / feedback as many others. Here are my initial impressions
  • Interface is currently a switch and a knob. The knob has no indicators, and is loose, can easily switch settings from a slight touch. Without any sort of digital display or way to save settings etc... this is an inconvenience for the end user
  • Build - solid, attractive, simple. However it is so light weight that the heavy duty power cord can easily tip/pull/knock over the evo. This is a legit concern for me since the cord must be plugged in to operate, the lack of base weight has me constantly worried about the evo tipping over. I'm super paranoid about the GonG getting snapped, IDK if that's legit or just paranoia. I've had GonGs break on other devices so that's where this comes from.
  • Cloud production - huge clouds I can not even handle when the device is set and going great. The tricky part is finding the sweet spot. The risk of combustion from just a few flecks of herb scares me away from finding a thicker vapor. One hit @ combustion = ruins the session and requires a full cleaning of the hydra tube.
    • The bamboo can also be "carbed" on the bottom, which IMO helps regulate the vapor production and reduce "hot empty hits" when priming. Being a convection device, pull management has a learning curve, although a curve not any bigger than any other vape I've used.
  • Hydratube - Love it, works great on top of evo, helps weigh the evo down. Fantastic glass. The only drawback for me is I could probably use more perk action on my next piece. I don't mind a bit of restriction.
  • ELB - I think the ELBs are a problem. Metal (increase chance of combustion?) Getting the cap off the ELB requires a tool or a fingernail. After doing it a few times with different fingers, 3 days later and I'll never do that again... ouchies! The all glass is so nice to look at that going to a metal screen as the key component in the device seems not as advanced. Most love the ELBs but just a few uses in and it needs cleaning. EVO comes with only 2 ELBs so as a starter pack, it's not nearly enough. Down the line I'd really like to see the ELB replaced with something with less metal and more glass or ceramic or something
  • Compared to other vapes I've used - Definitely without a doubt the biggest cloud producer by far, but you have to it that sweet spot and it's not 100%. I thought I was cranking clouds nicely last night, but my ABV was still not as dark as I'm used to so that full spectrum vaping is still a balance against risk of combustion, and that RoC is high from what I can tell. It's taken me 3 days to finally get comfortable with the dial/sweet spot, but as I mentioned with the interface, one touch and the sweet spot can move on the dial and without digital display or temp indicator or markings etc.. it's hard to know what is really happening inside the bamboo temp wise. Green is hot and ready, but 15 minutes later, that same setting means something different
  • Effects wise - yeah the cloud can really punch you in the face with a nice huge hit, but I need to work on finding the spot where I can get full spectrum, dark even ABV. I would compare the huge hits you can get favorably to the PAX. The difference is obvious convection vs . conduction. But just in terms of cloud size and clouds coming up right away. The taste/flavor of the Evo clouds are much better, PAX hits on high make me cough big time. I only cough on the evo when nearing combustion or @ combustion

Yes, to me it does.

I have used it daily since November 21st. I use it each weeknight for an hour or two, and on weekends it gets much more use. It has never skipped a beat, and performs exactly as it should.

Keep in mind that in the spirit of not clogging the thread, most people won't post unless they have new info. I'm sure there are many like myself who have been enjoying their perfectly working EVOs for quite some time, but didn't want to post just to say it works as it should. Unfortunately that leads to what looks like a lot of posts about issues, compared to not many reports of working units.

I would like to use this opportunity to say that mine works perfectly. I doubt I'm in the minority on this.
