I'd like to know if that's official advice, not to use the iso wipes for cleaning?

Sarah C. has sent me all the Fed X return stuff and she asked me not to use the iso wipes on the new unit, when I receive. I think there may be an issue with the glue and the seal itself. The adhesive stuck perfect to the plated steel surface but did not stick well to the seal itself.

"So did they have anything to say about it other than it shouldn't have happened?

So are you are saying that your overheating the device caused it? (was it just the one time ?)

Sarah said not to clean the lid?

Do you now have a better idea of why it happened, what caused it and how to avoid it?

Thanks",

They said it absolutly should not have happened. I only overheated the devise once. Sarah asked me not to use the iso wipes on the seal of my new unit. I think the adhesive is not sticking properly to the seal. Just be very gentle bacause once the edge starts pulling away it won't stop.

Its refreshing to see a company that is so on top of their CS.

They have been awesome to work with. I just seem to have this kinda of luck...1st Davinci off gassed real bad sent back and then my 1st Pax stopped heating after about 5 months, sent back. I have confidence they will take care of the situation.

I've had my Firefly for a couple of days and it delivers as promised. I think the battery life is fine. Vape Critic advises to preheat for every hit, and that is probably why he only gets about 20. IME you just need to preheat once for the first toke and after that the Firefly retains enough heat so you just need to press the button once.

One issue I found today when I cleaned the vapor path for the first time was that the interior side of one of the grooves in the cover is very rough, so when I rubbed with the alchohol wipe it caught and trapped the cotton fibers along the edge. Does anyone else have this problem? I was planning on calling them tomorrow for an exchange, but if everyone's unit is like this, I don't think I'll bother.

Vapor channel on mine is smooth & nicely polished. Might want to ring them.

anyone think it would hurt to put a little wax on this beautiful red paint job? this thing is awesome. you can feel the quality, not just see it. smooth thick draw. I'm glad I didn't wait.

if they can glue tiles on a space shuttle I'm pretty sure they can glue a seal on a vaporizer. I'm thinking no big deal

@grokit I think the use of "they" are two different entities. One being Nasa and the other being FF,

Edit: double post

@mckeen thanks re the avatar,

Also @mckeen can you tell us, I get the impression you were like trying to scrub the rubber with the ISO pad, also getting the impression (no offense intended) that you used the shit out of that thing (the ff) in a short period of time and MAYBE you aren't cleaning in between sessions as often as you should so you end up having more deep down grime and end up having to really scrub. Is that an honest assessment? I'm just trying to make sense of it is all, thx

Also got my tracking #. It's coming from NV and says it won't be here until next Thursday ;(

it's just a gasket, this isn't rocket science. firefly has probably had fewer failures than nasa. I'm sure the two guys that designed this beautifully built piece of technology won't have any trouble figuring out gasket adhesive. I would bet they already have. it may just be good that we can get the old gasket off, in case we need to replace it

Okay everybody lets get a show of hands, of everybody that has already received their firefly ---what is the state of the rubber gasket on your lid ? Anybody else having any issues with it?

I wish that we're true. It did not stick to the seal. I did not scrub it at all. My devices help keep me alive. I treat them with great respect as I should. This is a brand new device made in China. Anyway you look at it, 3 days of use should not result in this type of issue. I think they need to work on a new adhesive.. I've done some research, the adhesive is on the rubber/silicon seal then they peel off and stick to the metal. After getting hot the adhesive slips off the rubber or whatever that is. How many people here have tried to glue rubber to steel? Then heat it to near 400 degrees. I guess one could blame this on user error, I just can't accept that. No offense taken but be careful with the seal.

Also, I have packaged the unit for its trip to Seattle, while cleaning the view port there is a seal there that came off on my cotton ball. The view port rattled a bit also. The screws are very lose. So FF needs to send out a tool to tighten these things up or use lock tite. Hot and cold is the enemy not the users.

Also got my tracking #. It's coming from NV and says it won't be here until next Thursday ;(

Mine got to me in two days. Be there for signature. Mine showed up before 11:00am 2 days early. Free freight.

Got a response from Sarah at FF as to exactly what the seal/gasket is made from.

"In regards to the seal on the lid of the Firefly, it is made of FDA food safe, high-temperature rated silicone."

So now you know.

Silicone. Thank you, answered a bunch of questions.

Use google and look up glueing silicone to steel. One of the most difficult polymer to join to anything using adhesives. It seems FF is not the first to have issues glueing silicone to anything but itself. Then adding heat changes everything.

*Steama, Please don't feel like you do. All these growing pains are going to make our FF's invincible, I hope. My RMA #0010 so that seems to be true. Christ we can purchase a brand new lid for 30 bucks.
Don't worry about the seal issue cause the clouds and flavor will blow you away. The battery seems to last longer than it first did. How many perfect devises are made by man anyway? Being a part of it's inception can give you piece of mind, well it does me. My FF seal was not glued perfectly, thats all.

I think that you have taken some time and thought through the cleaning process. I'm going to adapt that regimine to my routine.

I go where the thrills are
Thanks for this post even though it makes me feel like shit. I called Firefly with an urge to cancel my order over the 'seals issue' and want to share that their failure rate is extremely low. The have only about ten warranty issues out of over 2000 units sold. So if these number are true it is likely you will get a great unit. Then again being a 'beta tester' sucks.

Remember we see a disproportionate number of early adopters here at FC. Clearly for every one of us with a problem there are hundreds who have flawless units, from whom we never hear a word. If you are going to take a risk on a V1 of a new product, all you can hope for is great customer service and a well-designed and -manufactured product. From my perspective, FF is two for two.

Users who cannot or don't want to navigate the exigencies of being an early adopter should wait a few months for the dust to settle. In any product category...

I have been thinking about cleaning the Firefly. I am going to use soft bristle cosmetic brushes to brush away debris. The cosmetic bristles are more gentle and softer than the supplied FF shaver brush. The only way I am going to use ISO is on a slightly dampened q-tip and only around the Firefly's crucible area. A slightly dampened cloth with soapy water to wipe the body clean and then wipe with a microfiber cloth.

So you were able to mention the gasket seals to them on the phone? Was there anything else to the convo?

@mckeen I was just trying to rationalize the gasket flopping around, hopefully they've spent time with this "issue" during product development. Hopefully it was just a bad glue job,

Thanks for the tip re delivery. I'll be WAITING !

Thanks to everyone posting in this thread

Yes, I spoke to them regarding the gasket seals — that is why I called them in the first place. Approximately 10 warranty returns out of 2000 helped me relax regarding the discovery of this products issues. I feel good to be relaxing again and I feel good my Firefly is on the way. Also the FF lid can be replaced for only $30, hardly worth getting upset about, but I feel confident that issues with the gaskets won't be that common even though it is a chink in the Firefly's armour.

Just got my firefly here are my first impressions:

Vape Critic is right that you need a technique to get the right hit but after few chambers you will learn this.

The feel is solid although the heater button on my unit is kinda wobbly. The heater button is the part of the unit that feels the least solid and kinda cheap, anyone else have this issue? I also had tiny bit of scuffs on mine that is only noticeable upon close inspection.

But other than my wobbly heater button the design is just beautiful, very solid, and high quality.

Also is it ok to plug the firefly into the charger whenever your not using it? Like pretty much if I am not using it, I should connect it to the charger, even if it is for like 20 minutes? What is recommended?
