Would you still use the Firefly at home if you had a desktop vape like Volcano or Extreme Q? I have the Pax, MFLB, Arizer solo, the vapir no2 and I just picked up the Atmos JR(for concentrates, not herbs) /end bragging. But for real, would you set down a good desktop to use the firefly? I feel like the Pax or the Volcano are set it and forget it type vapes which are the best IMO. The MFLB took some getting used to... is the firefly similar with the learning curve?

I use both desktops and the FF at home. The FF makes a great bedroom vape.

using cotton with oils is no problem unless you oversaturate them. you should just be getting the cotton slightly damp to the touch, or even less. it starts to vape and dry out pretty quickly, so I can't see it falling into the heating chamber unless you put too much on. Start light and work your way up from there. When you get the feel of the cotton method down it works wonders in any portable I've tried it with, and it allows you to run around with pre-loaded cotton instead of herb for those in non-medical states.

I don't recommend going against the manufacturers advice. Seriously. But if you find yourself in a pinch, and only have 100% cotton and concentrate, and you layer it p-e-r-f-e-c-t-l-y so that it can be absorbed above and below...

WHAM

It took a long first draw before everything was melted and really ready to go; on the extended second pull, it was fantastic.

My unit is working great and I found the learning curve to be quick, so I felt comfortable with giving it a test. I thought there was enough gap between the elements and the screen that it
shouldn't be a problem. That being said, putting cotton that close to those elements was DEFINITELY not what the Firefly was designed for.

So as such, I don't recommend using it for that purpose. Everyone will make their own decisions, but at the very least if something leaked down there where the sun does shine, you will probably ruin your device and warranty. And I like my lungs... I don't know what cotton tastes like and I sure don't want to ever find out. I'm happy it worked, but I probably won't do it again; it could go south too easily. Seriously folks, think about the downside - bad. Really bad. Is it worth it?

Like Sticks said...its super
convenient, works, and WOW. The reality is that sometimes we all need to MacGyver things, and its nice to know that if called upon in moments of dire need, and you have full mastery of the unit, it will deliver. Like a velvet hammer.

Lets hope this is just the first in a line of different models.

So I've got mine charging and glanced at the user guide
In light of those that have combusted, has anybody gotten the solid amber led light?
Evidently that's the overheat indicator, I don't recall it being mentioned yet.

From the led behavior section:
Solid Amber: Firefly is too hot and needs to cool down for a few minutes.

I have got it to where it was getting too hot to touch & have yet to see an amber light. I'll keep an eye out & update the thread if that should change.

After a couple of bowls this unit's a keeper

The taste is great, and extraction seems excellent. I can get the abv dark brown if I want, and there's no small parts to get lost. My unit does not seem prone to combustion but my material was a pretty fresh grind.

I'm very pleased that I've found a good flower "pipe". I really like the visual feedback of the glowing bowl, and of course of the thick clouds. I'm not much of a concentrate guy so this is perfect for me.

The shiny part inside can be wiped clean pretty easily, but I would have like to seen some sort of cleaning brush included for the bowl/window. That's really my only complaint, pretty trivial.

Anybody know when the extra battery and chargers are due to arrive?

Thanks, I saw the cleaning wipes but didn't open the baggie.

I like how they've re-purposed toothpicks, iso wipes, and electric razor brushes for the firefly.

For extra fun, after a sesh with the FF, try and pick up the toothpicks from a flat surface in the middle of the pick. Jenga is easier.:p

So I just ordered a beautiful silver Firefly with an extra battery and external charger. Today is a perfect day.

Congrats. The silver finish is amazing. Looking forward to hearing about your FF adventures!

Love mine too. Got an email from Sarah C. From Firefly, after the holiday sometime early January for the extra battery and charger. She mentioned the incredible demand and are completely out. Been cloudy here, wow, I found that if u put your fingernail in-between the lid and case, just enough to tilt it open a wee bit helps me get a little extra air. You probably wouldn't understand unless you have some Emphysema. This is just my way, may be of no use otherwise. Tastes soooo gooooood!

Glad you are enjoying it! I love the glow! As for cleaning, I use a little ISO on a paper towel for both the bowl and the porthole. Both are glass and seem to tolerate a small amount of ISO just fine.

Yep, seems to be the best. Mine had a little mar on the bottom of the top. Had to use some Novus fine scratch remover. Still a little ding there. Watch out for the rubber seal. I wiped mine lightly with a cotton towel and ISO and the darn thing came partly off. Appeared to be dirty under the rubber, I don't know, I let Sarah C. Know. I'll be sending them some pics. Mine did come with a shaver brush.

This is interesting. I've been curious about this rubber material, and a little wary of it. It's essential to forming a seal, in some ways it's kind of the glue of the simple genius of the FF, and yet the most vulnerable part. We don't yet know how these things will fare over the course of months of heavy use. That seal, and however it's held in place, have to be very resilient.

As for cleaning, I would be circumspect in my use of iso on it, and have kept it pretty conservative and gentle. However, if you haven't seen the Cleaning Guide PDF, look at page 5. They show the seal being wiped directly with one of their iso wipes. Seems like an explicit OK to use iso on the seal.

Yes, I think that was my-reasoning, they only sent one wipe which I used first nite. But I used tiny amount, most of the rubber is holding tight. Just the upper portion around the top, which I think now it will not seat in groove and rides up on the edge.

I wondered where the flaw would show itself. should be easy to fashion a new high temp food grade silicone seal

To be clear, I have no idea what the material is. It may very well be silicone. Someone here smarter than I may be able to ID it with certainty. I'll send FF an email and see if I can get an answer.

I wouldn't call this a flaw yet. One person has reported a problem. I think it's a potentially vulnerable point in terms of long-term wear. Call it a "known unknown."

Flaw, I don't think so. Worst case scenario, new lid is only 30 bucks. This seal looks to be high grade, I'm thinking since it delaminated nearest the heat source makes me look to the adhesive. And I did have an amber indicator led, having to wait about 10 minutes to cool down. Great feature, no meltdown. I don't think it ever got as hot as the Davinci does. I'm getting out the Nikon, the iPhone pics don't show enough detail. I'll post a pic. Don't let this hold you back from buying the tastiest clouds so far. I love my Firefly, just love it.

I don't think I could make this. It appears to be stamped out, the contours are perfect around all edges. Then what adhesive would withstand heat while gluing silicone to steel? I'm hoping the Firefly people make an adjustment and pass it along. Still the finest portable experience I've had to date.

With the care put into the rest of this design, why would you assume they used an unsuitable material for the seal?

Edit: Oh, I see, you were suggesting a user fix. Carry on then.

Hello everybody, first post here. I came across this site after falling for the Atmos groupon offer. My buyer's remorse was practically immediate once I decided to research my purchase online....what a waste of money,,,lesson learned...I've been lurking hard, trying to decide between this and the pax. I pulled the trigger yesterday. I had seen the review on gizmodo for the FF and thought I would never spend that kind of money again (I have a vaporfection that I've used less than 20 times that I paid $420 for, a nice glass bong I never use and even an incredibowl which I never use).

Not sure what it was, but I because obsessed with this device. I live in South Florida really close to Boca, so I even emailed them asking if I could pick up at warehouse instead of waiting for fedex haha..

Anyway, really excited to get it. I will report back with updates etc. thanks guys,
