Arizer Solo

I'm wondering if the oring a bunch of yall use would cancel some of the airflow?

i have the oring in mine and it definitely helps a tad on cutting down airflow

We just went trough this again a week or so back..... In fact, at the top of the last page.

Yes the ring can increase restriction by sealing around the stem where it enters (blocking some of the air down the side of the stem). If that's a problem for you (and I agree, many/most find it fine) you can remove this effect by notching the ring in a couple spots.

The Arizer Solo is a TANK! I lost mine yesterday and found it outside in the snow this morning. I also ran over it with my car sometime during that period... The top was dented and my PVHES GonG stem broke... but thankfully, IT STILL WORKS PERFECTLY!

First off, welcome to the Forum.....great first post, it's gonna be very hard to top.....

That's one abused Solo there, but from the looks of it, nothing a new set of covers wouldn't fix.

It reminds me of the famous 'PD ride in the industrial dryer' demo. And Thermo Vape playing fetch with the shop dog and a T1....or driving over the T1 on purpose.

Be interesting to see how Arizer handles it. Will they repair it under warranty and win the admiration of the assembled masses? Sell you a body and cap at a reasonable price? Trade you straight up and put the unit on display at shows?

Impressive for sure.

Thanks for the post, one thing sure it gives those questioning how tough the little rascal is something to consider. I guess it's probably too late to put an o-ring in?

Sigh... and my Solo, which had never been so much as knocked over onto its side, and lived in a padded Pelican 1200 hardcase all its life died on me after plugging it in to charge. LoL.

anyway...

If only we could get Billy Mays to do the sales pitch. The only man who could talk in ALL CAPS!

I got a Solo a week and a half ago from puffitup. A big thanks to Randy for replacing my order (which was presumably stolen in the mail) before the slow-arsed USPS/Australia Post investigation was completed.

I can vouch for the performance of the new models (mine is M1D2). I don't think the air flow is too much as I am getting BIG clouds on level 4 with both PVHEG/PNWT set-up and the PVHES stealth adaptor. I'm using a fairly strong draw and am not overwhelming the heater, in fact, I get bigger clouds with a stronger draw (the clouds might be thicker with a slower draw, but I get more in with the faster draw).

I'm very pleased with the flavor longevity I'm getting on the solo. While the flavor on level 4 or even level 3is not as pure and intense in the Solo as it is in the ThermoVape T1 for the first 3 or so hits, it certainly keeps decent flavor for longer using similar sized hits.

I'm not sure yet how the level of extraction compares to the T1. I can get 30+ hits of vapor easily visible in daylight on the T1, with about 10 more still being worthwhile if you are a tight-arse. It feels like the Solo could extract at least nearly as deeply as the T1, but I don't think I'll bother finding out as that's not my thing anymore.

I haven't put the o-ring on yet but probably will soon as the GonG lifts up a bit sometimes if I don't hang on to the horns when lifting the PNWT to clear.

I'm also using a SS screen on top and a honeycomb screen on the bottom, a la ataxian. I haven't compared this with not using the honeycomb but I'm pleased with the evenness of vaporization with this set-up.

As a bonus, I think the honeycomb screens will work great in my ThermoVape Evolution with a smooth flow inserted directly in to the cart.

To anyone worried about the increased air flow in the new models, forget about it. They work great!

Cheers

Hey was thinking about getting the Solo. Can it be trusted that sellers on ebay have the newer models? Also does the new model allow you to use it while plugged in some of the listings say so? And last are the special glass adapters available in the US from anyone else than planetvape?

I would ask to be sure. But when I contacted them about 2 weeks ago, most said they just received a shipment. I think they move stock pretty fast.

A little off-topic but do the majority of people who buy vapes get them from Ebay? Seems risky...

That is amazing... the Solo is a beast.

I dont see how its risky since there hasnt been any fakes AFAIK and also you get a 2 year warranty from arizer. Also can decide to buy from a powerseller.

Thanks, I didn't know if you still got the manufacturer warranty if you didn't buy it from an authorized re-seller.

Hi vv123,

To answer your questions:

1. You will probably get the latest model but it's best to ask the seller. Also ask whether warranty issues will be dealt with them or if you will have to deal directly with Arizer. Those who have to deal with Arizer seem to be without a vape for a long time compared to those who buy from vendors like Planet Vape or puffitup. Speaking of puffitup, there have been people on this forum recently who have had ebay prices matched there. It wouldn't hurt to ask them.

2. I can confirm that the M1D2 can be used when plugged in to the regular charger. I believe this has been a feature since M1C1 but I'm not sure about this. If you want to use the device plugged in much of the time, I would suggest getting the Pipes stand. This enables the Solo to stand while plugged in.

3. The only other place I've heard of carrying the special Planet Vape glass is in the UK. PV has quick, cheap shipping. It was $10 on my order and it got to my place in Australia in a little over a week.

Cheers

Just recently got the PVHES gong and 2 mouthpieces from Planet Vapes. I'm also using the o-ring, I am really happy with the results. My only drawback in the past with the solo was the tight draw, using the original glass mouthpiece, now it's perfect for me. I did break one of the PVHES mouthpieces on the very first day, bummer.

The o-ring does a really good job of holding the mouthpiece in place, it makes the unit more portable that way. I plan on looking into the wooden mouthpiece. I m going to read up in the previously posted Solo pages.

I ordered another replacement and another gong, I'm pretty clumsy, I may drop a glass piece again.
I loved the Pinnacle Pro Water Tool with the Solo. Fantastic flavor!

So again thank you FC community for steering me in the right direction. Happy times!

I think Sami means , he polished clean his oven chamber .
I find the resin stains compromises heat transfer along with flavor/taste .
I screen/mop clean my chamber regularly with iso .

Ice storm hit my city and no electricity , I have not enough power to vape .
Solo fully charged and mflb ready ( 8 Batts ) , but that's still NOT enough .

yes I polished the Oven chamber. If you look at how a heat sink works....the more contact (smoother) something is the possibility of heat transfer it has.

On another note (IMO): not everyone needs to notch the o-ring. My o-ring has had as "space" to sit in since day one and does not add any resistance when screwing down the cap. Its as if they left space for an o-ring. on another solo that I have now it is a very tight fit when I screw the cap down and the resistance in that unit is much more with an o-ring, so I notched that ring out.

I would like to say that Im not a fan of the notched O-ring since its catches with my pvhes gong sometimes and chips the notch further or moves the ring out a little.
Good to hear 'the Chillums are coming'.

However, the above 'fact' is surprisingly not true. In general polishing will lessen the heat transfer. Not only does it remove surface area and therefore lessen convection but it lessens "Emissivity" (radiation) from the surface. Note the differences in say aluminum (high numbers mean lots of transfer):
http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/emissivity-coefficients-d_447.html

This is, in fact, why the inside of "Thermos bottles" is silvered, to block loss by Infrared Radiation.

So, strange as it sounds, the original finish was probably engineered and better suited if not so pretty. There's a whole subset of this good stuff, Surface Science, guys make beer money doing. The surfaces of materials can have huge effects on how they perform. I recommend not tinkering in the area.....nobody can see it anyway.

Thanks again for the follow up on the Chillums.

OF

I have more material then necessary in my oven an was seen by the scratches in my oven from gongs. I only use PVHE stems and gongs and they are fatter then the stock ones so now my gongs slide smoother (not at all any more loose or missing contact.) ("Emissivity" versus transfer) my fact may be wrong but check out how a heat sink works. (there is a reason for micron polishing) IMO I like it better polished inside and out!

@ataxian- my solo is "MY" grail until I can get my friend to loan me his bender again!

I only posted a little about the PnP because some one did ask me about how I like it compared to the solo when I posted its pics.

Just remember what I post here is just my OPINION. If you do not like what I have to say please do not take it personally, I love the whole solo community equally! (and their respective units:science:)

It's pretty bad. There is still 100,000 homes without power across the GTA area. And a really cold snap has moved in.

Here' my back porch. Ugly and beautiful at the same time.

Hey it's all good!
All of us have different needs.
Some vaporizers are wonderful to some!

I am into CANNABIS.
VAPORIZING is my preferred method of medicating.
I'm a medical patient however recreational use is pretty harmless in my option. The BENDER is my recreational device in actual reality. I would just smoke a joint from time to time however I can't handle it anymore! So a Vaporize instead! The BENDER is my comprising device.

Whatever unit works for you is your "HOLY GRAIL"! The vaporizers now days are really well made and will improve even further as advancements are made in technology in general. Lucky for us there are some really smart people working on our medical devices!

The SOLO for me is so basic and simple to use. Plus I want the best medicine first and foremost!
If searching for the "HOLY GRAIL" is your passion that's cool.

My "HOLY GRAIL" is CANNABIS!
Vaporizing is awesome regardless of the device. As long as your properly medicated! The SOLO is just one of my medical devices!

Merry Christmas Everyone!
