If the blocked airflow from the ring is crimping your style, why not do as I did and notch the ring to let air in and yet keep the grip. I started out with 3 or 4 notches on the ID but found better results taking the same size nibbles out of the bottom side of the rings. It lets air back in on top of the stem like the ring wasn't there......

Regards and Merry Christmas to all.

Ahh interesting. I do recall some of your posts where you crimp the oring with pliers and snip off the little bit.

I gotta try and find that post. How deep of a groove did you cut in to the oring? I'll definitely try this tonight!

Half way, or a little less is working fine. Go too far and the ring can fail. Again, I found it best on the bottom (just above the oven) but you should experiment as well?

Couldn't you just melt grooves into it with a hot paperclip?

Good idea, generally, but not with Silicone I think. The stuff is a linked polymer, doesn't melt in the conventional sense unlike some thermoplastics. By all means try, but I'll be quite surprised if it works well.

Cutting it is second best to molding it in I think? You might have some luck with a steel burr in the Dremel if you stick the ring on some tape or something, but a razor blade or sharp cutters works fine.....even if a little ugly.

anyone else have this happen to them, set to a level for example 5, solo heats up to 5 and blinks red telling me its ready, i start to inhale and the heat level goes down 1 level from wherever i set it to heat. is it just me?
*edit* i am fully charged
I'm a new owner, but yep, that seems to be the case. Slowing down the draw helps a bit, and probably leaving the loaded stem in for a little while before hitting it to preheat it makes a difference.

Last I checked, they don't have those plans. However you can have them do a custom order for one. One of our members @samirfuzzywuzzy has one, and has been torturing us with photos of his setup. I need to contact them myself and see if they can do a custom shorty pvhes chillum.

Edit: two people beat me to it.

Double edit: his solo pr0n pic is on page 852.

They do have plans in the works for a Chillum stem but they will be taking my new design into account. They need time to source good chilliums since most chillums are made from the cheapest glass and color additives while they use top notch "boro" for their parts and the bonds become compromised.

I do apologize about the "torture". Im going to be putting another professional polish session on my solo.

Also polished out my oven the other day after realizing that smoother ovens transfer more heat.

With a new PN water tool, oring, and the PA/CARPA (IMHO) I can say that the only other portables that do stand in line with the solo are the Bender (obviously) and the Pinnacle Pro (it taste like shit but its the most powerful portable).

Good to hear 'the Chillums are coming'.

However, the above 'fact' is surprisingly not true. In general polishing will lessen the heat transfer. Not only does it remove surface area and therefore lessen convection but it lessens "Emissivity" (radiation) from the surface. Note the differences in say aluminum (high numbers mean lots of transfer):
http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/emissivity-coefficients-d_447.html

This is, in fact, why the inside of "Thermos bottles" is silvered, to block loss by Infrared Radiation.

So, strange as it sounds, the original finish was probably engineered and better suited if not so pretty. There's a whole subset of this good stuff, Surface Science, guys make beer money doing. The surfaces of materials can have huge effects on how they perform. I recommend not tinkering in the area.....nobody can see it anyway.

Thanks again for the follow up on the Chillums.

Pinnacle Pro (it taste like shit but its the most powerful portable).

I have been questioning my logic?

I use the SOLO everyday several times a day even if I'm using my other devices.

The SOLO may not be the HOLY GRAIL however they do work well.

In fact my suborn behavior has held be back from experiencing the full potential of the SOLO.

Normally I vaporizer at 3 for dry and 4 for wet.

So I found that level 4 is great for my smaller ASH CATCHERS, SHERLOCKS, BUBBLERS.

I just had a SOLO session with my largest water pipe on level 5.
It worked amazing!
I'm sorry to come off: "like I know best"!
Apparently I'm still learning.
The flavor was very good for a potable as well!

To keep searching for the HOLY GRAIL is not in my program.
I'm still stubborn however I think I'm over the portable search.
Before I tried to figure out why people like a certain vaporizer over another?
We are all different and like different flavors and effects!

Now it has taken me a while to understand how to vaporize correctly.
I'm still learning however I feel like I'm getting closer.
Having more conviction with every passing day of what works for my personal needs
I realize that others may not agree with my assessment.
The SOLO for a portable is basic, cheap & effective!
If you want to keep searching "GO 4 IT"!

Otherwise save your $ & buy a pack of ZIG ZAGS!

I think Sami means , he polished clean his oven chamber .
I find the resin stains compromises heat transfer along with flavor/taste .
I screen/mop clean my chamber regularly with iso .

Ice storm hit my city and no electricity , I have not enough power to vape .
Solo fully charged and mflb ready ( 8 Batts ) , but that's still NOT enough .

XP trumps the PNP from what i can tell, but thats another thread. :worms:

likely going to be ordering a gong stem soon. ill be using it for all around use with my solo dry and wet.

Santa should get you a cheap inverter to plug into a cigarette lighter, that really should be part of any vapist emergency tool set. They are super handy for all types of low power stuff in emergencies.

That, and a VG and lighter.

I couldn't find the high temperature o rings . Are the normal plumbing ones safe to use?

No they need to be hi-temp. Remember the o-ring is basically on top of the heater. The correct ones are good to something like 500 degrees.

Edit: I got my o-ring from PV when I bought one of their stems, which I find superior to stock.

Double Edit: If you hang around this site and thread long enough, somebody ends up buying a bunch and offers to share. I only have the one from PV.

no doubt. i lost power for a few days to an ice storm a couple years ago. not fun. take your solo to the nearest Panera Bread Co. or any place that advertises free WIFI. they always have outlets available for laptops. just bring a laptop along and your solo/charger and plug them both in. pretend to be just there for the WIFI, but charge your solo also. totally thinking out loud here.

Just got power back. Luckier than many.

Finally I'm ordering a Pipes stand so I can ditch the hair scrunchy. I went with full power rainbow and dim red to have a low light setting. Some preview pics.

I got my solo a month ago and it worked fine at first. Now, it randomly turns off when I turn it on. Sometimes it stays on for 4 mins and other times it stays on for 5 seconds. Anyone else have this problem?

Hi, Am having the same problem, does your unit heat up? I'm finding my heat lights randomly go up and down the scale very quickly as if there is a problem with the LED display(sometimes the heat light will show 1 but when taking a hit its very hot and in reality a 7!) and will turn off randomly.

I also find that the blue idle light stays on for quite a while even after trying to power down the unit.

I'm really just hoping that it will survive until after Xmas!

Anyone else had any similar problems?

I have the same thing with the idle light staying on. The LED display for temp usually sits at 1 for a bit then just shoots up to the temp

About the newest batch, after more use of it I'm noticing that heats up nowhere near the same. I am currently hitting it at 5 and barely getting anything. I find myself turning it to 7 in middle of first cycle and it being nowheres near as harsh or come out as dark as with on 7 with original. With original one I would've turned it up to 7 in middle of second cycle, it would taste harsh and come out dark.

Edit: Now hitting on 7, first couple minutes it was weak, whispy. Noticing I hear lots of air movement as I pull, I hold the stem so that that is greatly reduced, producing more proper vapour. I'm of the mind increased airflow was a bad idea.

I noticed the thing a about airflow last night, was hitting a bowl with hash and found that perfect spot for the stem where you cant hear much airflow at all. didnt feel like I was gettting anything at first then holy shit, big ol cloud of happiness. i was thinking about getting a pvhes but now, with that airflow id rather not. anyone know if the steath adapter is just like the stock stem, they didnt add airflow or anything?
