hello all... i have a question and an observation for the group about my Ascent that i have had for some time now. Just to catch anyone up... i am a customer who got v1.0 unit during initial shipment of pre-orders, was RMA #6 and got my replacement awhile ago....

First my observation..... i noticed the other day after running my Ascent for the day that it was getting close to dying and needed a recharge. i had finished a personal vape session (3 timed settings) a little while before and new if i ran it at 430 that i could get some more tokes out of it. so i fired it up and set it for 430 and watched it climb. it hit 430 and i took 2 tokes and saw the temp lowering. i thought "that sucks" as i was in my car with no access to the charger. i knew i still had some material to extract. i fired it up to 430 again. it climbed and hit 430 and this time i took one toke and it started decreasing in temp. so just for S&G's sake i fired it up again but set it to 425 this time. and here is the strange part.... @Davinci_vaporizer i hope you read this..... i watched it climb to 425 and this time it hit 425 and stayed on... it stayed on so long i finished the extraction of what i had left (a good 5 to 6 min of toking) and had to MANUALLY turn it off myself. so at 430 it wouldnt stay on longer than a 30 seconds but at 425 it stayed on for over 5 min?????

now for my question...... i hate to admit it but i have not cleaned the bowl of the Ascent since i got it (i have cleaned the other glass) and now its really brown. q-tips soaked in ISO do not clean it at all. the resin is pretty "caked" on and i am not sure how i can clean it since this part obviously can't be soaked. anyone have any ideas for me on trying to get it somewhat clean again??

@mmenzie

I am providing a couple of links to HSISP's pictures for his before and after pics of his Pax's oven when cleaning with the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser:

Preventative and regular maintenance is the key to a healthy fully functioning vape.

My friend uses it on his Ascent.

I use it for my Pinnacle Pro.

Works f'n amazing!

@ Deadshort480,

Big up to Deadshort480 for the original suggestion.

We must pay homage and give thanks when it is due!

Run it empty to warm up the resin?
I do a warm up going in and if need be, coming out.

I warm it up to make cleaning it easier with just q-tips and pipe cleaners, and sometimes that is all it needs.

If I need to Everclear it with some q-tips/pipe cleaners, another warm up to clear it out works well.

@mmenzie, Sounds like the protection on the circuit board tripped itself to prevent from overheating. It was built in as a safety precaution. Do you normally vape at 430 and is this the first time it's done that?

Just received my Ascent 1 hour ago! :smug:

I couldn't find isopropyl alcohol near my location, so I ordered it on Internet.

What can I use instead for the very first cleaning of my Ascent? Maybe 95% alcohol would do until I get my ISO ?

@Davinci_vaporizer i don't believe it was the protection of the circuit board kicking in, the unit was cold when i turned it on and fired it up to 430. i often use 430 as a second running after i have ran the load through my personal vape sessions. to be clearer here is an example (times are in there just for example purposes):

1:00 pm: load the Ascent for the first time and turn it on and vape for 13 minutes using the automatic personal vape session. 3 minutes at 375, 5 minutes at 385, 5 minutes at 405 when the time is done i turn it off and take a few pulls to cool it off

3:00 pm: need a "refresh" with the same load from before, turn Ascent on and turn it up to 430 and USUALLY vape another 5 or 6 minutes and turn off the Ascent and and dump the fully spent load

so as you can see it SHOULD not have been the circuit protection kicking in since the unit was cold. i only hit 430 for a couple of seconds before it just started to decrease in temp and i did it twice. but when i immediatly tried 425 it stayed on and allowed me to finish the session. i know the battery was low and i was pushing it.... but seems strange i could run it at 425 for 5 or 6 minutes but only a few seconds at 430

thanks :)

had a look, price seems adequate compared to importing with 229 Euros (keeoing in mind that warranty will be easier to handle)
of course a "good price" feels different:2c: :p

So, I've had my Ascent for 5days now and ill definitely be keeping this. This is my first med. herb vaporizer that I've ever tried. I've been using a vaporizer for Eliquid for 3 years- the 5V GLV, no ciggies for 3years! Anyway, the new smell has gone away adding to the taste of the vape, very happy now. I've only tried bud and a little kief so far and I've been getting good vapor. I was getting the best vapor using the glass jar on top, then today I received some square glass beads that I ordered, I also ordered the glass flowers with and without the stems but they haven't arrived yet. I put 1/2 to 3/4 of a bowl of bud in the bottom sprinkle the square beads in until full then tamp down with the glass jar, pushing the glass beads into the bud a little. I've been getting massive vapor with temps as low as 365F and I could probably go lower with good results. Aside from the vapor production the one thing that I've noticed since the first vape was the difference in the high compared to smoking a joint of the same bud. The vape high I discribe as "cleaner". Also it hits me alot faster than smoking but doesn't seem the last as long. As for conservation of your stash, I go through more vaping, but the highs are different. I'm actually not concerned with conservation so that's a non issue for me. I like that I can get a different type of high from vaping and I've notice that you can get different highs from different temps. So far I'm very happy with this purchase but I would like to see Davinci do something about making a glass plug of some sort for the bowl and I think they could have designed the unit to stand up when you sat it down. I don't like laying it on its side, if anything loose is in the bowl it falls onto the glass screen, possibly getting stuck. Bottom line, I would recommend this to my friends. Remember I haven't tried any oils, waxes, or shatter yet, only for dry buds and kief.

I would like a spacer that's just an oval of fritted glass with a couple spikes on the bottom to penetrate the herb. Would something like that be hard to make?

Just had a thought, putting kief in the jar and then fill in the top with the square beads. Maybe better heat with the beads on top? Not going to try it tonight but ill post results later.

Received my Ascent today (carbon fiber model). Merry Xmas to me! :)

Anyway, I've read the thread and appreciate the tips, as my first session was a humdinger! Very tasty vapor at 365 F. Nice blue vapor exhale. Cranked the bad boy up to 400, and experienced a noticeable difference.

Will get into it more tomorrow, but first try indicates this is a winner for me! Need to figure out the controls, etc... I basically ripped into it without reading the instructions, which alone indicates how cool and intuitive the vape is.

I was wondering how to pour the liquid from the Da Vinci Essential Aromatherapy Blends (Calm, Energy, etc..) into the jars. I don't know how to make the oil go out :\

I just squeezed the bottle. Be careful, a drop goes a long way, and be sure to clean thoroughly after using it. I like the oil I tried but I didn't clean it well enough and it ruined the Ascent for a couple of days.

Anyone know how to get big clouds with the ascent?
Read post 4339. Take slow even draws increasing slightly toward the end. You can also give it a couple little puffs while slowly drawing. As a general rule- the higher temps (400F+) tend to produce the most vapor. Lately I've noticed different strains, different textures of bud, and different dries/cures make a difference also.
