The VA and MMJ......Heads Up...

So I've been going to the VA for years now. Have had multiple general blood panels taken during a physical.........no problems, but I just came back from the VA today where I had my most recent physical. Had a general fasting blood test done the week prior. When i sat down with my Doc today, she was going over the results and then asked me, "So you use marijuana?". I was kinda in shock. I asked if that showed up on the blood test and she said yes. I had no idea that they tested for drugs. They never did before. She said I tested negative for cocaine and meth. She asked if I used MJ recreationally or for medical issues. I was so surprised, I said both. She smiled and said that she'll just note that I use it medically and being that it is legal in Cali, it doesn't pose a problem as far as the VA is concerned, but I did feel a bit violated. I had no idea that they were going to do that.

So, a heads up. If you're a vet and you go in for routine blood work, they very well may run a drug panel.

I would feel violated too lwien. That is something you should have been told.

Not to derail too badly, everyone should also be prepared, after our new health care goes into effect, to be tested if you are on any form of pain management. I've already had to sign papers allowing it.

Sure it wasn't from a urine sample ?

Could have been.

Yeah, I feel so as well, but being that "apparently" there's no negative consequences to them doing this, I'm not going to raise any kind of stink which could even draw more attention to it. It just really took my by surprise.

If you own any firearms that are registered in the state of California you may get a visit from the police to confiscate your firearms. (NO JOKE) California created a special department just to confiscate weapons from prohibited people.

Prohibited people? I have an MJ approval from a doc. What do you mean by "prohibited people"?

Well if it's like Arizona, you are not allowed to own firearms if you use medicinal mj.

I'm not sure.... only reason I know what I do is that someone just told me that they cannot buy a gun now there because of their legal mj status. Might be worth looking into if you do own firearms of any sort.

Wow..........I had no idea. What if you already owned a firearm and then years later, got a recommendation for MJ?
If you use MJ than you cannot own a firearm. If it's not registered than no one will know. Handgun registration started in 1991. Rifles registration starts Jan 1 2014.

Ya, save the world from MJ users (medical or not) owning guns, yet allow others with guns to use oxy's, morphine, other opiates, and other mind altering pharma drugs on a daily basis...... society and its leaders are just so fucked in the head worldwide.
Pretty crazy, huh?
