Backwards compatibility would be nice ... I'd buy a PS4 ASAP if it just had that 1 feature.
I've read some stuff about it, and from what I can gather, it's too difficult for them to do backwards compatibility via software, so they have to do it by hardware.

The old fat launch ps3s had backwards compatibility, and to do that they had to include extra hardware inside the actual machine (the emotion engine).

I know with my ps3, I only played a select few ps2 games on it, and I still have my ps2 if I ever want to go back to it.

Backwards compatibility sounds great right at the launch of a new console, but IMO, it's really not that big of a deal once a few proper AAA titles have come out.

I'd rather have a cheaper new console (the ps3 launched at $1,000 here, the ps4 is launching at $550), than the exact same console for $1-200 more that can also do what my current ps3 already does great.

:2c:

----------------------

Im still playin the crap outta gta v.
I'm currently at
58h17m of single player (not including any rampages where I re-loaded my save afterwards, so probably another extra 10 hours on top of that ;)
And
105h32m of online play.

Now I can take my portable ps3 case to my buddies place, set it up next to his tv, and we can get up to crazy online shenanigans.
Like getting onto the train and setting bounties on each other and watching everyone in the lobby start gunning for the bounty train lol.
Or doing that same thing in the bank.
Or getting a cargobob and having a demolition derby on the maze bank rooftop

And now with the content creator we can make our own races etc, I feel like I'm only scratching the surface of the fun that can be had :D

Thanks I've never used any mods through steam. I'm downloading the game now, I haven't played in a long time. I'm really looking forward to this playing this. I don't even care about the races and stuff, I just want to wreak havoc with a partner

Just played around with the Just Cause 3 multiplayer for a few hours.
It's really fun.

Can spawn every vehicle/gun in the game for free on certain servers. Servers with 100 people on em (when I logged on)

/tp mhc sends you to a airblimp in the sky with techno music (Mile High Club)
/derby for demolition derby

Good stuff
(Especially for $3)

After learning Just Cause 2 has a free multiplayer mod, that just came out,
AND that it's on sale for $3 on steam...

Definitely picked that old gem up!

Ah yeah the mod is a blast, your gonna have some fun with that. I was lucky enough to be involved with some of the earlier tests.

That is the argument against BC. "I don't want it, and don't want to pay for it". A reasonable argument.

However the Playstation in particular has been BC since the PS2. The PS2 was 99.99% BC out of the box. Not just for the launch window, but for the hundreds of great PS1 games.

Obviously then the PS2 library exploded and is quite possibly the greatest console of all time in terms of sheer number of quality games released on it.

When the PS3 was being teased, Backwards Compat was not only announced, it was further declared that all PS platforms would be BC forever! Remember the PS9 commercials? Same timeframe.

Then the PS3 launched, had no good games, zero. One of the worst launch line-ups in the history of big console launches. Backwards Compat was a huge selling point for me. And I would assume this was a huge selling point for others with hundreds of quality PS titles on the shelf.

The other argument is "if you want to play PS2 games, play them on a PS2".

That argument doesnt work since hardware fails. When PS2s stop working, that's it. Your games are done, worthless, unplayable.

And of course there was the BIG selling point of wireless controllers and virtual memory cards, major convenience factors for the PS2 games on the PS3.

HD remasters were the compromise, and some of them are excellent. But the sad reality is only 1% or less of PS2 games got HD remasters, yet there are another 100+ games worthy of the treatment.

PS3s are less reliable than the PS2 in terms of hardware, most will fail and then not only will the PS3 games be worthless coasters, the PS2 HD remasters and all DLC will be worthless bits of memory, unplayable junk.

Meanwhile I can fire up a perfectly working, (and actually improved with some user mods) Baldur's Gate game on my Windows Vista machine despite the fact that BG was developed before Windows vista existed. Magically it works, and my PC was not any more expensive.

I agree that the more great games that come out on a system, the less likely most are to play old games. But some of the best games ever made are old, and will always need to be played! I had to get some janky Component Out to HDMI converter to even use my PS2s... and I forgot how annoying the short cords are, and the physical memory cards.

I used to have a BC PS3 but it died within 1 year like most early PS3s did. But I was like 90% PS2 and PS1 games on it before it died. But I've played old PS2 and PS1 games as recently as a month ago, just like I play some old PC games sometimes too.

The difference is with the PS4 and XBONE, there is no way to play "old" games that came out a month or 2 ago, can't even play PSN content on it.

Even if you combined the entire library of both consoles, neither have a game on it right now that is even very good, or AAA. You can't play GTAv on it, or GTAIV or GTASA etc...

The new naruto game is fun! They got to bring back good fighting games I rekon they have gone a bit dead.

Wish I picked up bf4 during balck friday sale. Only didnt because I am still dissapointed with my bf3 that has gathered more dust than any game I know...

WTH BF3 gathering dust? Ok the game was not finished but i had alot of fun in there hehe.
BF4 is ok but still alot of bugs again.......

The naruto game is alot of fun indeed but i wish they made the fighting a bit harder more combos etc... its like a 1 button (B) bash fest i feel. Other then that im too big of a Naruto fan to not like the game it feels and looks awesome. A must for any fan at least one game :)
good fighting games ugh ... they need to start making games again tahts the problem...
In few months Thief will be out :) I hope that will be good.

BF3 is just dumbed down console kiddie crap compared to BF2, so depressing watching them run this franchise right into the ground catering to the lowest common denomination. Used to play Comp matches in BF1942, BF2 and BF2142. Started running a Squad for BF3 but between the limited gameplay, client side hit detection, poor server options and broken voip I gave up.

LOL yeah it felt a lot like that I loved the battlefield series and then it was huge disappointment with BF3.

Should I even ask if they have made any improvements in BF4? Not willing to pay 50$ to find out, Rather deposit that money on a vape instead of a bad game ;)

Just finished TellTale's The Walking Dead: Season One.

Epic story, better than the first 3 seasons of the TV show and the last 24+ episodes of the comic. Gameplay-wise, there isn't much to it, which is bad/good depending on what you are in the mood for.
The first part of telltales The Wolf Among Us is a blast too. Highly recommend it!

I remember seeing these in this thread. Heard good things about them but never played them cause they didn't really seem that appealing at first. Looking a some reviews wow these games look pretty epic! Wish I picked up them up on black friday sales.. Fingers crossed for super saturday game sales?

Out of interest how is the game better than the tv or comics? I have heard a few people say that. Are they more true to the comics or..?

I don't know how true to the comics the walking dead game is, but I stopped watching the tv show after season 1. The story for the game I really like alot better.

The TV show is like a bad fan-fiction Alt.verse of what is in the comics.

The comics were good for the first 12-24, then it just kept recycling the same plots over and over again.

The primary difference with the TellTale games is that the characters develop and it's not always "plot.plot.plot WAR plot.plot.plot. WAR" like the comics/show. Everyone has favorite characters from the comics, mostly because the cool ones get to be all bad-ass super hero style. Like 110lb blonde chicks that become epic warriors, Samurai, super-kids etc...

The game on the other hand approaches the characters on a more personal storytelling level, lots of backstory and development via conversation choices and of course the plot.

The downside IMO of the TT games is that the gameplay itself is very basic and there isn't enough of it. I love the interaction w/ characters and such but in general the levels are very small with invisible walls everywhere and very few gameplay "choices" other than conversations.

It's a major downside for some gamers, but the story is so good it doesn't prevent me from loving it, just wishing it was more interactive.

Another difference with the game and comic/tv show is the comic/tv show tend to either kill off characters for shock value (comic loves doing this) or emotional manipulation (TV show) Like when you watch a reality show and one of the dudes is suddenly getting all the camera time, he gets voted off. The TV show follows the same fail. If a character gets a lot of dialog, they are gonna die (unless it's one of the top 3 stars)

Tons of people die in the game, and it's done in service of the story instead of trying to shock or cause emotion. Without giving anything away, lets just say that the game doesn't care who your favorite characters are or are not. In terms of who lives, who dies and even who you can talk to and who are flagged as "unkillable" by the game.

As a result, the game is incredibly sad. It reminds me a lot of Silent Hill 2. Not much action, not much "gameplay" and not really "scary" .. .just a lot of sadness and dread and 'feels'.

It took me forever to finish the game because episodes 3, 4, 5 were just so depressing.

What do you know steam sales are back and walking dead on there... :D mine I am still watching the walking dead and I completely agree with you the way it is told and the story/character development was just so god damn slow/boring during season 1 and 3 I spose I was just bored and it stuck. And that's another reason why I never gave these games a look. Figured I just watched the series why would I want to relive a pretty average series in the form of a game? But I can see it is a little different. But the TV show does seem to be getting a little better besides pulling some breaking bad shit and cutting a season in half to air next year..... Pathetic. Most recently games have been lacking story for me so I definitely will be picking this up as I used to be a big story gamer. Stories lack these days. I spose it is hard to find that balance between the too. Thanks for the mini review :) Gonna have a little extra entertainment over the Holiday period. Ill be sure to post back my thoughts on the game. :peace:
