Zephyr Ion

Just out of curiosity, why would I/you want to introduce a source of user error?

For the same reason why I prefer driving a car with a manual transmission or a car that is so much on the performance edge that if you're not paying attention, you could get yourself in trouble. MUCH prefer driving a car like that than driving a Mercedes S-Class Sedan.

Does this make a Lambo better than a Mercedes Sedan? Absolutely not. It's all a matter of preference just like the preference between a bag vape and a direct draw vape.

I drive an M3, manual transmission, and I prefer it to auto-tragic versions because it gives me more control (power band, gear, available torque) not because it means I'm closer to an accident due to my error. Likewise, I prefer a vaporizer to give me control - and the digital temperature control and LCD feedback on the Ion is a definite form of control.

Not saying the LSV lacks control, but I don't think I agree with your analogy. With a car, my personal priorities are to get me somewhere RELIABLY, SAFELY, and COMFORTABLY. FUN, however, comes in 4th in my level of importance, but often is what I experience most in making a determination of what car to buy. I'm sure similar things can be said of vaporizers.

I think it really comes down to preference of design, and some people will look at the big plastic Zephyr stuck on a table with a turkey-roasting bag on top and be turned off, or they might have trouble squeezing the spring valve open and feel frustrated. They might like the glass and aluminum of the LSV, and prefer its more artistic approach to getting high. Certainly they both get you from A to B (like a car), but the experience is also part of the process.

While I totally agree with your post above, (btw, I drove an M5 (company car) for over a decade. Got a new one every year. LOVED it), let me be more succinct in why I prefer my LSV over a bag vape.

With bags, I found that the vapor starts to go stale and condense as soon as it enters the bag. This is one of the things I really don't like about bag vapes. I want each hit to be as fresh as possible. Secodly, I find that with bags, there is a higher air to vapor, especially at temps below 390, than with direct draw convection vapes and especially so when using small amounts (.05gr) in the bowl or crucible. I like my vapor very thick at medium temps. Also, in regards to conservation, the huge area inside of a bag for condensation to take place is a concern and it has happened way more than once where I found that I was high enough and didn't want to finish the bag...........ergo...........wasted vapor.

I also prefer a vape devoid of as many mechanical moving parts such as fans or pumps as possible in the effort to improve reliability. The more basic, for me, the better. Can't get more basic than the LSV or my previous daily driver, the PD, which I kind of equate to driving a Prius.

How fortunate for you. I saved and bought my M3, it isn't a company perk. I also wasn't bragging, I hope you weren't either.

To deal with stale vapor from sitting in a bag too long, or wasted vapor, I suggest smaller bags; if you have a heat sealing machine, you can make a bag any size you like. Or not filling the bags to 100%.

I agree that when smoking 0.05gr at a time a zephyr isn't ideal. I just weighed the basket and then took an average scoop - I use about 0.18gr per session. I might use more if its a weekend.

Not bragging. Just wanted to let ya know that I too am a BMW fan. Been only driving BMW's ever since I had my maroon 2002tii back in the early 70's. Actually, that was the most fun BMW I ever had while at the same time, being the cheapest. The only other car that I had even more fun with than that was an original Mini-Cooper with those teeny tiny tires. It was like driving a slot car. Sooooo much fun. The Mini wasn't mine though. It was a friends who also had a Lotus 7 which was also a kick to drive. Fun days..........

(God, it's soooo easy to go off topic........)

Ok, back on topic. With my PD, I used 0.025gr, which is what the stem would hold. With the LSV, I need to use twice that amount for some nice vapors. With the Zephyr, I found I needed about 3 times that amount to get a nice bag full. Never tried using smaller bags though than the stock ones that came with it.

hey guys.
recieved a used zephyr ion today. i know it's just 110-120V only, so I've bought a good(!) stepdown converter (voltage here is 240V). the problem is it automatically turns off after a few seconds (sometimes it stays on a little longer, sometimes it shuts down directly). Anyway, I can't use it like this!
My question: is this a common and known defect, or does it have something to do with the step-down converter i use?! Please help

i guess i can't use it with the usb cable only, right?!

the only thing I know is that usb cable was for future software releases through the computer...not for charging.

Curious what other Zehpyr users are using for replacement bags. I used to buy Tokeez bags off of Ebay/Amazon but it looks like they're all taken down now.. would Volcano bags work for Zephyr Ion mouthpieces?

Thanks in advance :D

You can certainly use a roll of the Volcano bags, or turkey oven bags.

I use turkey bags. Also I'm sure this is pretty well known by zephyr owners but in case you didn't know you can take the mouthpiece completely apart and clean each individual piece completely so it starts working smoothly again. A rubber piece did fall off while I was cleaning so be prepared to possibly have to superglue it back on. Haven't used my Zephyr in a while but plan to as soon as I get another straw o ring in the mail. Should be a nice little change from the LSV.

Also saw that the zephyr Facebook page is doing regular Ion giveaways so you might want to check that out.

Been using my Ion the past couple days and I've learned it can really be as efficient as you want it to be. I can put just enough herb to barely cover the bottom screen and crank it to 400. Then 440. 2 super thick satisfying (huge turkey) bags from not a whole lot of material.

I also found a USB cord and hooked the Ion to my computer. With the beta software you can control the temperature fan and power, so I setup TeamViewer on my phone and computer and now will be able to start my Zephyr heating from basically anywhere. Pretty damn cool.

Here's a link to the software in case anyone is interested: http://zephyrvaporizers.com/zv-ion-software.zip

In order to get your computer to recognize the Ion (first you have to be using a 64-bit operating system) go to Start-->Devices and Printers-->Scroll down to the bottom and look for "USB-SERIAL CH340 (COM4)" right click, go to properties-->Hardware tab-->Driver-->Update driver-->Navigate to folder where you extracted the Zephyr software

That should do it, then you just click the "vaporizer.exe" in your Ion software folder and you'll see this screen:
Qg3leBI.png

When you're at the above screen just click the Zephyr Ion logo and the other controls will become available for you to click.

I acquired a Zephyr Ion yesterday.
It is simply marvelous!
I am in love with the simplicity of the easily changed cups, and the handle is ingenious.
The friend that prepared this for me, gave me normal bags, but added a 6 foot bag for me to play with, and so play I did.
I love also the size of the bowl. While not the largest I have seen, it is larger than most, and allows as much meds as anyone might want.
I can not use the software, because I am an iMac guy... but nor would I want to.. I can not see wanting to start my vape from across the house or room. (I have never used the remotes on 3 Qs that I have had over time)
I am fairly sure that this unit heats as fast as my Volcano, and while it fills a bit slower, it is no slouch.
WOW is what I have to say about this vape, that has previously eluded my eye!
It is quite a performer.
I was feeling a bit weak when I woke, and decided to take pre-emptive action against my old enemy, Nausea.
What the heck I have a six foot bag, why not take it out for a spin!
Lights in the room came on and off while bag was filling... I did this to give a view with the light from a bulb, and with natural background light from the window.
COLOR me a Zephyr Ion Fan!

There was a moment (at about 2:51)... when I was almost done...
when I thought to myself, "Whew.... I'm not done yet?".. then I buckled down and finished her up!

Zephyr Vaporizers: "Currently working on a final version for 32 and 64 bit Windows, which we will then port over to Mac. Will probably take 4-6 mos, but it is in the works."

Also just so everyone knows zephyr has absolutely incredible customer support nowadays.

I have a fairly new Volcano.
Side by side, I lean toward this Zephyr every time.
It heats faster, and apparently blows faster and it blows denser!
The system works, and this son of a gun is underrated to say the least.
I am considering the Zephyr Ion... to be extremely patient friendly, for a very broad spectrum of disabilities. It can be powerfully medicating also. That little basket (I call it cup-o-meds). can be filled to the top.
Using a large bag gives that basket a chance to start to cook.. and the vapor is thicker as hot air is shooting through a thicker denser puck shaped cup-o-meds at a very fast rate.

I never thought I would really care for bags.
I have a Volcano for that, and it gets used mostly for patients that visit.
Other vapes here have an option for either bag or whip.

The speed and ease with which I can use the Ion, has had me "huffing" bags like some glue sniffing kid!
(JOKE!!)
but really... I have never filled so many bags in a row, for personal use before!

I have already recommended this vape to a facility that serves many in another MM state that has a budget for this, and they have patients with a need for speed, and "bulk medicating experience".
This one was what I told them about this morning!
Have a great day Zephyr users!

EDIT: I forgot to mention my 6 foot bag...
I love this friggin' Zephyr Ion.
It is like a heat gun vape built into a solid brick wall!.
I cut the 6 foot bag down to a more manageable size... 5 feet, 7 inches.
Having the bag 5 inches longer than I am tall was tipping me over when I tried to stand.
The physics is obvious.
So my 6 foot bag is now exactly my height. 5 feet 7 inches.
Now I can stand up and vape the thing without it damaging all the local flora and fauna.
Also... I was having trouble finishing that last 5 inches of vapor!

Did I use the 5 foot 7 inch bag this morning?
I did.
It was 5 Feet and 7 Inches of Blue Dream Comfort!

I came in to a bunch of shatter recently and was looking for the coolest way to use some of it (got kinda bored with the nail and wax pen.) So I decided to load up a bowl in the good old Ion. All I have to say is holy shit. I have never been so high in my life. Ever. I definitely was NOT expecting the results I got from just sitting some shatter on top of a bed of vaped herbs. Thickest bag I have ever seen. Every hit felt like taking a massive dab. Absolutely crazy.

Vitolo, have you tried using the Volcano Easy Valve bags with the Zephyr?

Yes, but preferred the Zephyr bags for the quietness of them (less crinkle)
The easy valve seal also is not that stable on the zephyr.
I like the zephyr mouthpiece... it only requires one hand to put it on and off the valve.
Another point I discovered today is that the basket actually holds a bit more than the easy valve.

All this back to back testing of the Ion side by side with the Volcano are for sure keeping me feeling calm and out of harms way!
I have gained a great deal of respect for the Zephyr.

Quick question had anyone used the oil lad that comes with it? If so how'd you use it ? What temp? I fear of it leaking through and causing a malfunction. Thanks
