Ok I will test the cold to hot start with putting it on max temp next time, but that still doesnt answer my question if the unit is suppose to be switched off on off on everytime I need to turn it on. It doesnt start warming up the first time I switch it on, light just stays red. I need to turn it off and back on for it to start heating up. Is that normal?

I only got one wristband with my EVO, Ill have to buy a few more for protection. Good to know that its suppose to be that hot, I just wasnt familiar so I wanted to check. Do you find it better to do your quick session than leaving it on for long periods of time?

I will test in just a bit the concentrates again. Didnt know if I should be turning the device all the way to max so I never tried. Now that I know its ok to do, its next on my list to test.

A big thing I notice is that my although my spacecase gets a great grind, running it through the mflb grinder makes it just that much better. I seem to get a milkier hit and a completely even toning in color of the abv. When I have the bigger pieces you can see some uneven browning, but not a lot. Most of what I have been putting through has been pretty bone dry, I could break it up with my fingers if needed to. It was of good dryness :D

Really appreciate all your input back to me oldiebutgoodie... much appreciated.

One last thing, I know Im being a bit nit picking, but anyone elses unit wobble? My base is a bit uneven.

I would submit a support ticket for the on/off/on/off issue ... might want to hold off a while before sending back though as you don't want to be EVOless for too long :)

My base wobbles a little too (didn't notice until I checked because you mentioned it); that being said, I'm not positive it's not lack of uniformity in this old workbench top :)

Hey folks, I havn't really been around in a bit, I hope you all have been doing well!
Anyway, here is a short vid just to show how I like to 2-cap.
I've had my evo for a little over a week, and it's been quite the trip.

So hear is my stoner logic(take with grain of salt) behind how I feel I have gotten really good results with the 2 cap method:
1. My first worry was about dripping, either in the Evo or in the glass. So to combat this I shoved a bunch of 'cano concentrate pad in the top cap of the 2-cap, and just a little in the bottom of the ELB(to protect cloud with HT orientation). The lower part doesn't seem to be needed if your quick, just don't fill the 2cap and let it sit in the Evo for more than a couple seconds before you pull. Then the airflow will keep it from dripping.
2. I found that the concentrate was going around the 'cano pad and in the screen around it. So I decided the 'cano pad needed to be pretty tight, not necesarily full, but pretty tight. Also, I realized the top cap need to be pushed all/most the way down to create a tighter fit to the inside wall off the bottom cap. I even reamed out the top cap so it is even tigher, it's screen on screen as I slide it in.
I found these 2 things has helped the concentrate not only be soaked up instead of sucked through, but also the tight fit of the caps and the cano pad had directed a larged majority of the meds to the center of the air path for flash vaporization.

Full review and full spectrum(2cap, bubble,2 ways of botanical) 4 min vid to come, might need one more take, hopefully not...

Edit: Just to add, I am still messing with draw techniques, but in that vid I guess I did what I consider a priming technique, which probably isn't needed.
Last thing, so far I think it's capable of very healthy dabs, but most likely not huge dunks.

.... if I get to 1pm, there is no way I can touch the top half.
Mine gets quite hot, if I keep cycling it on, but I can always pick up it up by the top half (although as a rule I don't, since I don't have to). It should never get hot enough to actually burn you. My old Cloud seems to get hotter (which makes sense, since the housing is metal), but I always managed to handle it.

Having to turn the unit on twice to get heat certainly isn't normal, but like JCat said, make sure you can be assured of a quick turnaround before you start a service ticket. Right now, if they switched your unit out, someone else would be waiting longer to get their new unit.

Mine isn't perfect either, but I took a small piece of vape tubing and cut it into 4 pieces the right length, then cut a lengthwise slit in each and made four ' EVO shoes'. No more wobble (mine was so minor it really didn't really bother me) and no worry about scratching any furniture it may sit on.

The heater is compartmentalized in an upper chamber supported by a floor with just enough clearance to allow wires from the lower chamber. The lower chamber houses the CPU, on/off switch, and other electronics. I'm impressed by the floor's ability to concentrate the heat in the upper chamber while keeping the lower chamber cool.

Very impressive indeed, I measured around 240 degrees up top, and just 95(!) degrees at the bottom while running full temp fully warmed up. They definitly did some work.

Good info. Keeping the excess heat mainly on one part of the vape is important for handling purposes, and VXL has succeeded with the EVO.

If the unit has timed-out then the clock is reset by toggling the switch. And I'm saying that when you switch it on again, dial it to 3 and then dial back when green. Verify this works. If it does, your unit may need a firmware tweak. Send SM a PM about it and mention I suggested you do. Re the wobble, where the 2 enclosure seams meet at the base on each side, are the front/back pieces precisely aligned and even? This will tell us whether the problem is with the assembly or with the mold.

EDIT: And, no, I don't leave my unit on after a session. It heats up so quickly that I don't find that necessary at all.

Hey, I don't know if this is off-topic, but it's for my evo so i'll throw the dart anyway.
has anyone heard anything about when the energy blend and other botanicals will be back in stock?

Took my money in August...

Sure would be nice to know why they believe the early bird straight tubes are less important than other orders...

It has been said before that they were out of opals, IIRC I saw a picture of completed tubes without the opals, or at least close to being done. Trust me, once you have this thing in hand it will be WELL worth the wait. I was bitching the entire time leading up to it, I know how it is.

Just tested a few ELBs of "one-hitters" on higher temps.

Used too little herb/hit twice = combusted. Twice. *eye roll*

I did discover that about 1/8" in the ELB, vaped in one pull at 3, makes for an incredible ride!

Tried another mini-ELB with some sticky concentrate. It resembles dark peanut butter, but stickier. Vaped nicely at 3, but didn't have much luck with the vanishing act. I think this sticky stuff needs to sit in flowers next time.

If you want to know if it will pull a vanishing act you can do the lighter trick, put a tiny bit on foil and run a lighter under it to cook it off and see what remains! But usually if it's darker there will be a touch of plant matter left in it that will leave some residue.

Now that's a real THC punch to the face!

Also, has anyone cleaned their EVO yet? The couple times mine combusted I cleaned it out with a cue-tip and ISO. Do you guys think any place besides the 18mm gets dirty?

Anyways, any info on how to clean the EVO is appreciated.

I've managed to combust three times. I use a q-tip and iso to clean as far into the bamboo as I can reach with it.

Set it to Noon, let it turn green, turned it to about 11, let it go back to green, dropped in a normal load, hit it once, and it felt like it was about to combust. ABV was brown. Will continue to test.

Note: combustion only happened AFTER I'd turned it to Max to heat, then dropped it to 3 to try a concentrate. That worked very well. Now, it seems like the temp is shaded a bit higher than before. I've combusted now at 2, at noon twice. Up until now, I've been hitting at noon most of the time, with no issues.

Get a pipe cleaner appropriate for the diameter of the inner glass airpath, then dip the pipe cleaner in ISO and go at it (obviously being careful not to get too much ISO, avoiding getting the inner area too wet).

Also..

------

So, I know this has been asked before but have we reached a conclusion on whether leaving the ELB in while the VXL is running is wasting herb?

If you have it on upside-down would the herb really even be being heated? Heat rises to the cooler air above and the heater is already above the herb.

So after combusting @ 10 for the second time, I will be sending my EVO in for an attitude adjustment. I want to sing the praises of this new vape monster, but all the smoke is really too much. FWIW my herbs are rather moist and ground well . At least VXL is on this side of the country.

im wondering why so many units aren't properly calibrated? aren't they being tested before they are shipped out? I have been kinda impatient and frustrated that I still haven't got my unit but maybe its a good thing with all these combustion problems. I don't do concentrates so I really hope mine doesn't combust unless its at max. it would really suck to have to send it back after waiting so long.

Okay, I just avoided combustion at noon.
This was after the second (really short, slow) hit.
