"It's important to protect young people from this deadly habit and to protect people from second-hand smoke," said Councilman Paul Koretz, who pushed the ordinance.

WTF, it's not smoke.

E-cigs live in a nebulous world where the regulators can't decide what they are. Are they medical devices delivering a pharmaceutical (nicotine)? That'd be the FDA's domain in the US, but the federal courts blocked that path, at least for now. So they decided to try regulating them as tobacco products—except as we all know, they don't contain tobacco. Nevertheless, that's where they are headed. Here in Canada, they're still not legal. You can walk into almost any head shop and get a cannabis vapourizer, but e-cigs are almost impossible to find.

The argument that really makes me see red is that, "We don't know if they are any safer than smoking." Oh FUCKING really?

AT&T Park banned ecigs and any kind of vaporizers last year, in addition to adding metal detectors at the entrance, as all MLB parks will do, I believe. I have mixed feelings about ecigs. There seems to be a gold rush going on with various retailers self branding cheap components and marking them up considerably and making specioous claims regarding their capabilities, such as saying that they will vaporize dry herb. Witness the notorious Atmos Raw. Unfortunately this has stigmatized legitimate manufacturers like VB and retailer Vapor Warehouse, which seem to me to be forthright about the benefits and limitations of their device. My fear is that they get thrown under the bus along with the less scrupulous companies. I have noticed that in the Bay Area that ecigs for many people have become almost synonymous with vaporizers. Several stores that call themselves vaporizer shops sell nothing but ecigs.

Richmond California just passed legislation banning ecigs in the same places as tobacco/smoke.

Agreed. Most people, and certainly most city council members, don't make the distinction between ecigs like the atmos and legit vaporizers like the volcano. And the first thing out of their mouths is, we gotta protect the kids. Sound familiar?

To some point i agree with the council as to regulating nicotine, but if your not retailing nicotine it shouldnt be regulated. Hell i can turn a flash light into a ecig in a few minutes does that mean flash lights are now regulated as well?

Exactly, the problem is nicotine. That is ejuice or eliquid with nicotine. Not the heating element. They outlawed hollow tip 9mm (cop killers) and banana clips for automatics and people still want the guns banned. I know, gun control what a terrible comparison, lets not debate this topic here. In this case they are ignoring the culprit and scrutinizing the battery. However, I agree with clearing up any safety hazard issues.

As gun control argument is flawed so is this.

This year in china where gun control is heavily enforced but mass murders still happened. Guess what he used a knife.

No matter what the issue is its now more laws that solve the problems its the enforcement.

Given the number of little kids (e.g. not old enough to get into an R rated movie) I see running around with vapes in public, I knew this was only a matter of time. Can't say im surprised.

AFAIK cops wear Kevlar and hollow points are for soft targets (eg not armored). They are rather ineffective at piercing hard targets. Just saying.

I suppose were looking at mitigation and not prevention. How much worse would this have been If the guy used a gun?

lol I knew I shouldn't have used that comparison bc guns are not my expertise. Since you know them well, or at least it seems. What are the said cop killer bullets that I thought were hollow point 9mm?

I think youre referring to ammunition made of hardened metals that can penetrate a soft body armor vest made of kevlar. The manufacture, import and sale of handgun bullets made of hardened brass, steel or any other alloy has been prohibited since 1986, IIRC.

I know this is the Lounge but the thread is about regulating vapourizing, not guns. If you want a gun thread, please start one.
Oh yeah?

How about a vaporizer gun?

E-cigs are hard to find in canada?
Thats news to me.
I live in Canada and they are at every corner store. Mind you they are all nicotine free.
This one is popular in a lot of stores

I see a lot of empty pens and its a bit harder to find e liquid but it is available. But again everything is nicotine free until health canada decides what to do.

Without getting into a debate over what constitutes an e-cigarette, I will revise my statement. A little more research reveals that I relied on misleading information. E-cigs are not illegal here, they're just advised against by Health Canada. E-cigs containing nicotine—I'm adding "containing nicotine" although I still feel that it's not an e-cig if it doesn't have nicotine—do seem to be really hard to find in stores here (GTA), but perhaps there's pockets of "enlightenment" here and there. You can definitely get them online. As you said, everyone is waiting on Health Canada. I can hardly wait*, given what a stellar job they're doing with MMJ.

* Sarcastically speaking. I gave up nicotine in 1972 and have no intention of taking it up again.

A far as I know there is only 4-5 company's that will ship e-liquid to canada, the only thing available in canada is batteries, carts, chargers, replacement coils, stuff to rebuild coils, ect.but no nicoteen solutions.
You can get it shipped to you at your own risk, but you can't do anything if customs jumps on it.
PLEASE DONT ruin it for me and mention names of the few company's that MIGHT be located in canada.

All this being said,I don't think any products should be regulated, just the e-juice.My reasoning behind this is as follows.

I smoked cigarettes from age 15-21.started e-cigs at a 18mg dose.almost 1 1/2 years now since I have smoked a cigarette.now I'm now at a 8gm dose and plan on dropping again soon.
All along my friend "bob" tried smoking young when I did,he never liked it and never picked up the habit, but he did occasionally have a half a smoke here and there when I first started.
He haden't touched nicoteen for 7 years, but recently he was over and liked the smell of my raspberry flavored ejuice and asked for a puff.........without thinking I let him try it.....

Now every time he came over he asked to vape my e-juices,I told him no after the second occasion.
Well he liked it so much he ordered a cheep ego battery,Kagner cart, and ejuice.......
So the option of good flavors and no smoke(and my ignorance)essentially got a new guy hooked on nicoteen......

Obviously I was using it as a quit smoking aid, still am.i see great benefits for people trying to quit cigarettes.ButI can see this being a bad thing for young kids/youth,and young adults

Obviously my friends name is not bob but I won't post his real name

Ecigs are hurting analog sales, shits about to change and I believe not for the better. I'm pretty sure big T isnt going to just die off or let all that money go elsewhere.

You are thinking black talons rounds. Urban legend basically. Not armor piercing. DR rounds like in war are super heavy rounds likely going through a basic or mid range vest. A 5.7 mm pistol will go though or novelty shotgun rounds.
