Should I buy whiskey, and if so, what brand should I buy?

I would like to possess whiskey, but I'm not sure if that which I fancy is cost-justifiable...you know what I'm saying, my niqqas?

I only drink alcohol on a periodic basis, so it's not like I would buy the whiskey and consume it in a week or two. When I do drink, it's usually just one serving, with 2 servings being on the rarer side.

If you think I should go ahead and buy some whiskey, what would you recommend? I don't want spend much more than $30 lol. I've tried Jack Daniels--green bottle and black bottle--and I've also tried Jameson. I liked the Jameson more than the Jack Daniels. Are there better whiskeys that are similar in price?

I'm so high right now.

Ummmm.............uhhhh............. Not quite sure how to respond to that.

It's all subjective, man, but in the 20 to 30 dollar price range, I like Jameson as well. It's 22 bucks in my neck of the woods, and considering the price, I haven't found anything tastier.

Many may suggest some Bourbons, but I prefer either Scotch or Irish Whiskeys. Bourbons are a little too thick and sweet for me.

When I drank single malts, I always had them neat. With Jameson, I like it on the rocks. I nurse an ounce and a half for over an hour..........sometimes two.

I prefer Wild Turkey 101 proof not because of proof but I can sip it warm without gagging. It has a flavor you can savor. Sorry but I can't explain in an educated opinion. It's just my favorite out of lots of choices. Cheers

I'm a very big fan of the whiskey.. Try Chivas Regal (~$30 - scotch), that should land you somewhere between Jack and Jameson. One of the last bourbons I had that I really liked was Jefferson's straight. (~$40 - bourbon) If you're after Jameson's style but something else Michael Collins ($~30 - Irish) is an Irish whiskey that always knocks me on my ass.

I never drink anything to knock me on my ass. I'm not after the high at all, just the smell and taste. How does the MC stack up to the Jameson taste wise. I was thinking about trying it out.

My niqqa Diesel,

I'm not feelin' that errk and jerk jail-house-sounding liquor and gasoline mixing. No thank.

I want straight up whiskey simply because it tastes good, has a high proof, and is just cool as phuck to drink on the rocks while little pussy-bitches be drinkin' their bitch liqueurs.

Vaping while sipping on some whiskey on the rocks and watching Trailer Park Boys makes me lol.

So let me get this straight. You drinking whiskey straight up makes you more manly than someone else who likes to drink liqueurs?

First, the word "niqqa" is just as despised here as the word it represents. Second, I don't know who or what you are but you aren't likely to impress anyone here with faux gangsta street talk. Third, referring to others who don't share your drinking tastes as "little pussy-bitches" is disrespectful, not to mention juvenile.

Before you post again, read the rules carefully and clean up your act.

Whiskey - go Jameson, Bourbon - Makers Mark or Knob Creek, Scotch - Johnny Walker Black

All nice sippers, I tend to prefer scotch and bourbon over whiskey. I also love baileys on the rocks as a dessert/apertif thing but guess that makes me a "little vagina female" ;) Just playin broseph but on these forums cats try to keep it a bit more professional, kinda what makes this community different/special.

That's around 250 bucks............a bit higher than the OP was inquiring about. Actually, quite a bit higher.

Oh I know... Although I think I paid about $180 for a bottle in Tokyo? IDK that exchange rate with all the extra zeros throws me off.

Anyway, I was just making a general statement. Maybe the OP could find a bar that will serve him a shot of it for $30?

Funny you say Makers and Knob Creek. My favorite and close to least favorite bourbon in that order. I love me some Makers though!!! If your ever in the beautiful Bluegrass State of Kentucky head down "Bourbon Road" and take the tours it's amazing!

Double distilled instead of triple so you'll notice the liquor isn't as 'soft' and the taste of the whiskey will hold up to mixed drinks better. Bushmills and Jameson are closer in that regard being both triple distilled. I'd say Collins is less sweet, with more of the smokiness from the wooden barrels.

I remember that it was a pretty big deal that Cooley Distillery (makes Michael Collins & Kilbeggan) was one of the last independent Irish owned distillers but last year they finalized a sale to Beam. Guess that's how things go anymore.

You mean neat or if you must on the rocks with less than 2 icecubes. :goon: But imo if we're being snobby we need to spend more than $30 lol

well i don't enjoy whiskey in any form :D

but when i was in scottland i visited a famous whiskey distillery and they serve their whiskey with fresh spring water (and told me that's the way whiskey is served traditionally), so that you can really taste the turf *yummy*

personally i don't see the appeal in tasting mud, but to each his own, eh?

i much prefer a good wine ;)

I was just poking fun at the snobs, I second the to each his own. That's awesome! I've never been to one but I've heard of a few small distilleries brewing whiskey to a higher than normal proof then adding water like you said to bring it back down to 90 proof-ish. I think the theory is water does change the taste but when people are paying for a really high end whiskey a lot of the time they want exactly what the distiller created for them, kind of like a piece of art.

I knew a guy who would only drink water and Seagrams VO. He was a pretty big guy but he'd drink the entire fifth in a night and use water from the hose outside so I'm not sure that counts as a professional opinion. Or may be that does. :D

I drink wine once a year at Christmas and it's usually yellow tail lol.

Fine Scotch is supposed to be drunk neat or with water (not ice) from the same source used to make the whisky. (Hrm. My stupid spell-checker thinks whisky is spelled with an E. Not in Scotland or Canada, doofus!) I drink mine neat, but if you want to open up the nose and flavour, add a single drop of water. Ice will alter the taste significantly, and not in a good way in my opinion. Like @lwien, I drink sip whisky for the flavour. The only type of whisk(e)y I don't like is bourbon. The sweetness overpowers everything else.

Agreed, except I actually like the "oiliness" (sp) of JW Red better than the smoothness of the Black. My favorite is McCallan 12 - 30 yr old.

Also agreed. I tried to get on the bourbon bandwagon but could only find a couple I truly liked so I stick with scotch or cognac these days.
