I was literally seconds away from buying one on IndieGogo, but this thread has convinced to wait and see if it actually ends up working the way they claim.

this forum... i love this place

i dont think we are seeing any trickery here with the video or its editing. what i see is a vape that while it does show promise... its still got a lot to prove to be up to its early dubbed "desktop" standards.

i think we see a vape that can indeed vape a .10-.30 load, but will take finesse and patience to get there. similar to the TV Evos.

for many that is great. for others not so much. i would be stoked to see even solo production, but also very surprised.

Could use face masks, voice masks. Things that are a lot simpler and a lot less lazy.

It's seeming a lot like StealthVape at this point. Remember, Stealthvape had an actual unit that seemed to be running, professional packaging for that unit, and showcased a bunch more units, which, now that I think on it, looked a lot like empty lipstick shells.

I'm going to wait til this goes to market, but if we don't hear from @Zenpen after the release date, you guys can definitely file for chargebacks.

I'll say it again, mainly because comparisons of Stealthvape to GH, IMO, are invalid.

Stealthvape wanted us to pre-order. GH does not.

Stealthvape never had a demo video. GH has released 2. Your paranoia can decide for you if you think they are "fake" or not. IMO, the second video does not look fake.

Real names here with GH. You can look them up on the webs and find more info about them. Stealthvape, all I know is a man named Alex.

Stealthvape never had a demo video.

Doesn't seem to load any longer but you can see screen caps by hovering over the progress bar.

For a laugh, look at the suggested videos on the right side.

Completely second this post. Contributing to the campaign is essentially paying to be a tester of the 1st release of the product. If GH decides to release some prototypes or testers before that it's just out of their own generosity (and, imo, intelligence since it'd probably be very useful to them, but that's not for me or any of us to insist on).

I should have been more succinct.

King, I've scoured the StealthVape Facebook (link:https://www.facebook.com/stealthvape)

The videos that were posted were posted after the "release" date.

There were no videos posted on SV's Youtube, Vimeo or FB before Jan 30. Units were supposed to be out by Jan 2012.

Stealthvape did have a bunch of pictures of someone holding the vape and essentially saying how great it is to vape in stealth mode while the preorder was happening, but no demos or usage videos.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. I didn't know this was the case, I only began looking into StealthVape because it had been mentioned so many times in this thread.

NP.

Good thing the Vimeo video is still there!

If you guys saw this during the pre-order... Man, would you guys rip this apart.

This video is "weaker proof" than any of GH's videos.

@Atomsk after watching the first use video a few times, you're right in saying that the paper isn't there at the beginning of the video, but it looks to me as though someone else actually put the paper on the table and pushed it towards him.

Definitely, that's why I think it sets a shady precedence; what else might some off camera person be giving him? A whip connected to a V-Tower?

I think Pre-Oder vs. Crowdsourcing is just a change in semantics. Both are paying for the delayed delivery of a product that has largely been untested by anyone outside the manufacturer. It's a great way to differentiate a donation between a payment, though (good luck w/ chargeback of donations). Also a great way to make people feel okay about beta-testing. What difference do you see here?

Stealthvape did have videos... Similar looking videos, although, you are correct that these weren't released until after the ship date. Doesn't change much that it was after alleged-ship IMO. They provided the same measure of proof you feel confident about here, although, with admittedly less content.

Sure, you can Google these guys to find out about their lives in college, a bike lock and UAV they've developed. Will googling them help you receive the device if they don't end up sending it? Will it help the device work better if it doesn't perform as described? Will it help a credit card dispute over what can be construed as a campaign donation?

These are all relative measures of safety. My argument is that there wasn't anything reassuring about the first video. Second video is better, but it remains to be seen, from a legitimate angle, that the Grasshopper is where the vapor is being drawn.

I don't mean to start arguments, only to provide my opinion on why I'm waiting for the market product. You're quite right, I can allow my paranoia to decide, and I am quite happy to sit back and let others risk the gamble.

Consequently, the comparison of two products that have not yet been tested in the real world by multiple third parties, remains valid and will continue to remain valid until GH is in the hands of someone other than the manufacturer.

Here's what I don't understand. Their faces are clearly visible on their facebook page that is promoting the GH. Why not demo the GH with a full frontal face shot and put all this speculation out to pasture.

Plausible deniability?

I believe its because its sold for legal herbs, and weed is not legal in NC. Therefore, they can easily put their faces on the campaign and on the facebook page, so long as their are no videos of them vaping weed. I guess technically they could do a video with mint or something, but no one here would like that I'm guessing...

Deniability of what though? They could say that they are vaping mint leaves. There would be nothing in the vid that they would be doing that is illegal. How in the hell would the authorities be able to prove what they were vaping?

At work so I only have limited time but there is a major difference between creating a herbal vaporizer that specifically states on the indiegogo that it is not for use for illegal products vs filming yourself committing a felony. I can say that I personally cringe anytime I see someone record their face while admitting illegal drug use.

Look, let's just assume that filming a face is a non -starter, is there any video that would satisfy you?

See my post above. How could that vid prove that they are vaping weed anymore than their facebook page indicating that it is a product to be used for legal herbs?

Yeah but 1) wouldn't you want to see the material going into the vape and the ABV coming out to be satisfied? and 2) if it was mint, it wouldn't satisfy me...im no mint connoisseur lol.

At least it would show the vape working. DaVinci did that in all of her vids. She stated that she was vaping mint leaves. If it could vape legal herbs, is not safe to assume that it could also vape illegal herbs just as well?......................lol

Yeah thats a valid point, you couldn't prove it if they didn't show the herbs. But then the video's not as useful. And also, the video isn't as useful if we don't actually know what herb is in it, which we wouldn't know if they couldn't say it was weed. We could suspect, but still wouldn't know.

Also, mint vaporizes at a much lower temperature I believe. It would be a useful video, but it wouldn't show that the vape was capable of reaching necessary temperatures for other herbs.

I'll tell ya this. It sure as hell would satisfy me more than the current vid.

And if mint vapes at a lower temp, find a fracking legal herb that vaporizes at a higher temp. Hell, if they have the smarts to come up with a "magic" vape that they claim this is, I am sure that they could find a legal herb that vapes at the same temp as cannabis, eh?

North Carolina may not be the best state to be tried by a "jury of your peers" when marijuana is involved. A prosecutor would only need to convince the jury, not the rest of the country.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Even just a shot from philtrum down would have me eating my words and "analysis."

A mask. An unnamed friend. Anything that shows that it's the GH creating vape without help.

Still doesn't make sense, though. No way to prove that what you're vaping is MJ unless you say so, and these guys have been "getting minty," by their own word. I can understand not wanting to be seen vaping MJ, especially in a hostile state, but that doesn't mean you can't show yourself in clear view using a product that can also vape legal herbs.

They can vape herbs will similar vaporization temps as comparison. There are Licorice, Ginger, Ginseng, and Aloe Vera to start, although we'd prob like to see something similar in plant matter to MJ. Really, as long as they show (full-frontal) it produces vapor on any similar material, I'm sold.

edit:
And if the argument is still to keep from any MJ association, their presence on these boards & Reddit (whose content is now a matter of public record), is similarly incriminating.

I'm only interested in vaping Cannabis or Cannabis related .
That is the first and foremost plant that must function for ,
in order for me to purchase it . They can say Mint/lavender
all they want , nudge nudge wink wink . But it has to work
best for MJ . I like the Sub thread for one , there was NO misunderstanding what Enrico was vaping in some of his
early vids . ( Buds everywhere )

Still I would be hesitant to put my face next to nugs before being ground up and vaped if I lived in NC. Lawd knows not every state is okay with it.

That being said, sunglasses and a bandanna are common household items. I know a few people on FC that shot videos in a similar fashion.

The bottom line is we knew going in that they had the idea but not enough money. We give the money, they use it to develop, and then we get a product after. If the risk that they won't deliver is too high for you, you can withdraw your funding I think/hope. We knew this was going to be a risk. Now we just have to wait and see.
