Amazon wants to deliver shit to your door using unmanned drones

This exists in China, a buddy of mine came to me with the idea to do it here, but the FAA is needed for sure.

Flying things in federal airspace is tricky, especially when people can shoot them down and grab contents, even though these thingsa can fly high it seems.

First person to bring down a flat screen is the fuckin man. They talkin on the radio about it now lol.

People gonna take advantage of this. Read yesterday about ppl using drones to sneak contraband into prisons. Pretty soon someone gonna strap a pocket pistol to one to rob ppl. Gimme that Rolex and ur wallet. What in the fuck is this world gonna be like in 20 years.

Sadly you'll need to live within 10 miles of an Amazon shipping center to use this service and the weight limit is 5lbs or under.

I'm more stoked about Amazon offering Same day delivery on stuff ordered in the morning.

Yeah, that's the problem, only like 5 cities have centers near them.

Drones aren't a good idea imo.

imagine watching this drone fly to your neighbors door step as he tends to his garden, he eyes the drone curiously as it drops a parcel on his doorstep

he approaches the doorstep with a smile, and you watch as he looks with amazement and curiosity as the drone flies away.

you gaze at him through your window as he lifts the package up and starts to read the gift message that was stuck onto the box

"Jim,

please keep your pornography at a reasonable level. We are all tired of it.

Thanks,
The Neighborhood"

China uses drones already. We are slakcing behind. Drones kinda suck though, and would need to be much more beefy, or a better wasy to do things.

SalamiCity,
Once we get used to these fuckers buzzing around overhead, it won't be so problematic for law enforcement to fly their birdies too. Ppl round here were shitting themselves when they found out the local PD bought two.

But seriously, if these amazon drones use video to navigate (they do) I hope to god we aren't dim enough to allow them. The government won't need to build their own, amazon will just let them watch the feed.

I think that this is very cool, and that people who are reacting negatively to this generally have no idea what they are talking about. Amazon will be doing this in full support of the FAA, with cutting edge technology. There will be layers of redundancy that ensures these can't just come down on someone. It's inherent to the design of quadcopters that they can survive the loss of one engine, and most designs are capable of controlled flight on just two.

People seem to be caught up on the idea of drones invading privacy. The truth is, that the police have been using unmanned machines in the air to spy for years now. This is in use already by police departments all over, so fighting Amazon on this issue will change nothing. And I think that police using drones is a problem, but it is a problem entirely separate from Amazons use of remote controlled quadcopters for delivery and these issues should not be confused.

As for criminals employing drones with built in guns... do you know what happens when you fire a gun? No civilian grade quad copter would be able to compensate for the kickback of firing a projectile; not to mention the fact that is just an absurdly difficult and expensive replacement to the tried and true method of robbing someone; without any real increase in safety since you need to be nearby to control the copter.

THANK YOU. Some of the replies in this thread almost make me wish we had a "groan" feature next to the "like" button.
