In a way all the doubters should really be taken as positive by the grasshopper team. As long as they have confidence that they will succeed they are most likely going to get over 200,000 dollars for the project and they know they have a huge, rapt audience waiting in the wings to buy it at a higher price.

Wow I missed so much lol
CONGRATS @Zenpen for making the goal, now for those stretch goals.
Like I said I have my faith in your knowledge and background, heck some aren't even qualified period and are still selling vapes. These technological feast plus the engineering artistry in the zenpen is a great combo.

@GrassHopper...

Do you foresee any issues shipping to certain states? I've had to go through ebay with some other companies.

My ideal video would be...

Good point, everybody has different usage patterns and therefore wants to see a different video. For example, I want to see how a loosely-packed bowl does @100% power right off the bat. There's no way to please everyone, especially with barely-functioning beat to shit prototypes.

my understanding is that the mouth piece has a spiral design internally that cools it. I can really see the at least theoretical logic behind the same idea applied in reverse

There's a lighter-powered vape out of the uk called the allivi8 that has a design similar to what you're describing. I am thinking that grasshopper employs something like this. My only concern is how often it will have to be cleaned, because the vapor path would have to be quite narrow considering the form factor.

Good question re: cleaning. I assume there's a stainless steel screen which would probably be easily poked out through the hole unless there's some wizardry there, too. I'm envisioning it as just being a simple screen and the herb lays on top of it. Sounds like a job for a qtip and some ISO.

I'm curious as to how fast the screens (if there are any) plug up. Most people with the Pinnacle/Pinnacle Pro have said that their mouthpiece screen gunks up faster than screens on other vapes.

And you guys gotta remember there are still states where a tiny weed stem in the rear passenger floor gets you in jail... Not every state is as liberal about our favorite lady as CA, WA, CO, etc. Probably why there are no faces... Not everyone feels comfortable taking a video of a nug being broken down and vaped and putting it out on the net.

The Grasshopper you see in my profile pic and in the videos is a functioning prototype. As with many prototypes, it is not perfect. Continuous testing and modifications to our prototypes have them in rough shape. When a user on the forum asks whether or not we can include a "stealth mode" where the LEDs do not light up, we take it apart and we try and figure out how it can be done. Any small improvement we can make that will enhance the experience, we will attempt to implement. So understandably we're not in a rush to show a reviewer our battered prototypes, we'd like to get our next batch ready and show those off. It isn't fair to the reviewer or to the Grasshopper to have it reviewed at the moment and asking them to try to ignore small deficiencies.
Not to try to change your mind or anything, but I know I speak for a handful of people on here when I say we've tested everything from alpha to pre-prod/prod units. Stuff that ends up dying, projects that turn out some awesome stuff... It's a good idea not to rely just on this forum for most of your feedback, but if you're smart about it, FC can really come through for you. All I'm saying is don't be scared of being poked and prodded!

I only just found out about this thread yesterday. Took me this long to read the whole thread.

Put me in the "pretty skeptical, but optimistically hopeful" column.
;)

Not sure if I will hop on the crowd-source, or wait for the dust to settle. It is a nice price point.

PS: Oh, the claim I just flat out don't believe, is the "Feb" one. I've got my money on May.
:p

[EDIT: Launch delay crack not intended to be anything specific against this company or device. Just shit happens.]

O yea! $600 more to 115 g's and I can get the green one!!! That is really the only thing I was worried about. The lifetime warranty is gonna take care of the rest. When you compare all other warranty coverage out there for vapes: Pax with it's 10 year is tops along with Thermovape's customer service, they are unmatched and would probably service my Cera forever too (they have done so with my T1 core rebuilds) Ascent is 2 years I think. That being said, LIFETIME WARRANTY, boy just the sound of that makes my $100 sing!:D

Just keep in mind that a warranty is only good for as long as the company stays in business. Typically, the percentages of start-up companies that fail within the 1st year is 25% and it goes up to around 50% at the 4 year mark.
Understood, but IMO $100 for a new vape that you can send back whenever for whatever reason is great. If I'd gotten a year out of it for that price I'd be happy. If it works like I think it will then I'd buy 2 more. Luckily we are not discussing cars where I don't have the means to get 2 or 3 but portable vapes, boy I love em:clap:

Above 130k and they now have their first retailer …….

well i know the first retailer is not PV. they bought a single one to help the campaign (and to try it out i believe), but they stated why they would not buy the retail package and made some good points why in their thread.

I'm about to pull the trigger on crowdsourcing with the oil option, but I'm a little stuck on whether or not the oil option would work well?

On paper it sounds great, but Oil acts differently than Herb, I'm feeling like it wouldn't be a solid investment. Air path may need to change to accommodate runniness. Plus, with a max temp of 410F, would that be enough to run oil?

You can have the same kind of doubts about the herb part. Is it going to perform as advertised ?

If you feel like they can achieve a great performance with bud, why don't you trust their ability to engineer something for oil ?

One Piece fan?

I know the entire thing is up in the air, but they at least have some foundation on the Herb side in that they're talking about how it should work.

My concern was how these components, which are Herb-specific, could be piggybacked in to an oil experience, as per the body of knowledge provided by this thread.

This assumes that the device will work as advertised, and excludes the notion that this will be a big disappointment. Think of it as an exercise in, "what if?"

Thanks for the conjecture.

edit:

So with the information provided, that their current airpath has the heat below the loading chamber which travels in a spiral towards a screen, and given the max temperature is projected to be 410F, would oil even work?
