The Dr Dabber Pen

BIG WARNING
I plugged my dabber battery into my MacBook and it power surged and it fried my logic board. The dabber was less then a month old. The computer was not plugged in. I took the computer in and they said it was bricked as the logic board suffered a power surge. Please get a USB wall charger. Do not let this happen to you. It is now a 1300$ vape pen. The battery also is not working properly as it will now not exit from the three blue pulse mode. Just a big FYI to all the dabber owners.

I've been charging my Dr. Dabber on my laptop for a while now with no problems at all. My laptop isn't Apple, though.

I don't think this has been an issue yet or we would have heard. The mac/ibm won't matter. It was the power surge of the bad charger that did it.

First charge I plugged it into my Lenovo Yoga and it worked fine... works fine in my desktop as well. Why would your computer being plugged in or not matter? Until others chime in I'm going to call this an isolated case.

Have you confirmed that it is the chargers fault? If so, how?

Well. I know that it was not the computer that coincidentally had its logic board fry at the same time. It more then likely was the battery discharging. Not sure how to test that. The dr will hopefully send me replacement parts and I will never plug it into a computer again. This could be isolated and let's all hope so. My post is more or a " this could happen and it did so be careful" kind of thing. Wish I could Dab and ease some of this stress but all in due time.

Volute of Vapor
Hello Guys, 10 days ago I received the DD, I've got the Dabbler too and I'm sorry Doc but it seems to me that building quality and performances of the Dabbler is really better than the DD...

the DD coil is a little bit smaller and it can't keep enough oil into to get thick vapour and some oil is not even vaped on the coil and you need to turn the pen and the oil can drip down where it can be vaped (i hope that you understand me)

After 10 days DD starts to produce less vapor, the Dabbler produces still thick and lot of vapor...

I own the Bholt too, this one don't produces really thick clouds but taste is really good (building quality is cheap)

Thicker vapor: 1st: Dabbler, 2nd: DD & Bholt
Taste: 1st: Bholt & Dabbler, 2nd: DD
N° hits/load: 1st: DD & Bholt, 2nd: Dabbler

This is just my opinion...

I happen to have both the Dr. Dabber and a Vapor Brothers Dabbler too. I like the Dabber better. I can milk the living crap out of this thing, if I want to, but I don't want to waste vapor like that. I've never had a loss in performance with my Dabber either. In fact, it's been my daily driver for a while now.

The Dabber has me addicted to dabbing. So much so that I haven't used any of my flowers in a while. I need to start switching things up.

Not sure I believe this is the case. Are you suggesting that the charger fed power INTO your laptop via USB port? That shouldn't be possible. Where is the charger getting its power....FROM the usb port.

Sounds like another case of the "infallible" Apple laptop doing something funky, failing from a defect, and then Apple denying the warranty by any means necessary. I'd be willing to be if you happened to have plugged a thumb drive into the USB port the same thing would have happened. Fluke IMO.

Unrelated: The Dr Dabber website seems to be down.

Gonna have to respectfully disagree. The second I plugged in the dabber batt/charger the screen went blank. Coincidence can't begin to be brought into this convo. It fried the computer. nuff said. I just wanted others to know this is a possibility. Not knocking the dabber. This could be fluke BUT it was the batt/charger and not a mysterious apple short that coincided with the millisecond I plugged in the device.

if the pen was on, and the usb was being inserted while power button on pen was pressed i could see how the laptop was made into a carto.

Um, no.
In order to be able to be charged by USB, the pen's power has to be less than what you get through a USB. (difference of potential)
Now, if the USB connector on the laptop was already a bit damaged, and by plugging in the charger a short of some kind occurred, then I can see it happening. But it originated in the laptop. In which case, yes, plugging in a thumb drive might have done it, too.

The doctor quickly responded over the weekend about my broken globe atty so i placed an my order for some backup atomizers and my order plus the replacement shipped Monday. I couldn't ask for better communication or faster shipping.

After some extended use I can safely say that I really enjoy this pen. I do believe that the cotton and screen have helped to smooth out the hit. Flavor has been improved since I started using larger dabs and let the wick stay saturated between uses instead of trying to burn off the entire dab.
I want to try a new atomizer when they arrive because mine burns the oil after a two second pulse

It might have been the charger, the tiny wires inside can break, and in your case I'm betting they shorted out.

I like using a usb hub with it's own isolated power supply, or you could also try a nonflexible charger but I'm sure it still has little wires inside:

But I would very much support a Dr. Dabber battery with the bottom usb charging :D

Dr Dabber got me through Thanksgiving with the fam yesterday... way, way too many kids (about six of them were under 6...) and a couple of people we aren't very familiar with, but I managed to enjoy the day, and had no "self-conscious" moments (social anxiety).

Okay guys my dr dabber finally arrived - my postman never scanned the package so its probably been in my mailbox all day. Anyways, the packaging is classy maybe even a little too nice. Its well branded as others have mentioned. The pen seems well constructed and the finish is nice.

Normal atomizer heats up fast, glowing red in a few seconds I was under the impression that it would take a little longer with the new coil. Was disappointed that my first dab burned, I don't think I held the button down too long either.

I tried hooking up the globe attachment but I get no glow or heat, either I'm using it wrong or its DOA. I have not tried contacting the doctor yet.

Was happy with the product but disappointed with my initial results. Any tips?

If your attomizer does not heat up you can try pulling the center post at the bottom of the atty slightly out. You will need something like a pin that u can stick in the hole at the bottom center and slight wedge that piece out. Only wedge it out a tiny bit then try again. That piece is the center post and it it the Positive connection , often during manufacturing these just get pushed in slightly too much and then the Positive doesn't connect to your battery. Typically called a center pin problem.

With the cotton in your skillet it looks like you re created a 510 attomizer from a few years ago.....how e-cigs started

Received my dr dabber on nov 12, atomizer was dead on arrival, emailed the support, they said a new one was shipped on the 14th of nov. here we are and still no atomizer, but it seems like he had no prob getting an atomizer to a poster on this page in 5 days. seems like some people have had similar issues as i within this thread. i really dont want to buy anything else from this company. lucky for dr dabber he has the sale today and i will get a 5 pack of atomizers because of the savings. from now on though i will only be buying vapor brothers dabbler atomizers. fuck this company, ive been staring at this gram of tasty wax for weeks checking the mail every day thinking my atomizer may be there.

Will the ones from the dabbler fit? If so cancel your order and get them from him. Good luck.
