Zenpen, congrats on getting 1/4 of your goal in less than two days. I'm a fan and have already given you my money.

So... one thing... I'm not a grammar Nazi, but in this case I feel I should bring an error to your attention. The word "discrete" in the second sentence of your top level description should be "discreet"... :myday:

Can't wait for Feb 2014. I know you're going to make your goal. :)

Why does this matter?
I would say that this matters from a device safety standpoint, If someone is a medical user and is designing a medical device, the quality of components and attention to every detail that could influence the health of the user should be considered, apposed to a stoner designing a device to get the people high without any consideration for whats going into your body except for your feeling the effects.(E-cigs would fall into this category IMHO vapin plastic n all..) Im going to go out on a limb here and say @Davinci_vaporizer would be an example of what i would call a stoner product, not a medical product. They have shown a complete disregard for any effects of silicone off-gasing and the health of there consumers. I would guess these Grasshopper guys have the medical community in mind seeing as how safe the air-path is.
Maybe @ataxian will jump in here and tell us what he meant by it? instead of me guessing lol

I totally disagree. So your saying medical users want quality safe components and a clean air path and recreational users don't want a safe quality device? Lol... When it comes to vaporizers I think both recreational and medical users want the same thing.....Quality,functionality and safety. I don't think a recreational user or "Stoner" to use your term wants to breath plastic vapor and toxic off gassing. All of the recreational vaporizer users I know are very health conscious and seek the same qualities in a vaporizer as medical users. Why wouldn't they? After all, the reason people ( both recreational and medical users) choose vaporization over combustion is for health, safety and efficiency...or am I missing something?

I know they have safety in mind, but they can't claim it to be a medical device without getting regulatory agencies like the FDA involved. In fact, there's a disclaimer on the indiegogo campaign page:

Irrespective of their disclaimer, I believe GH can still manufacture this device with medical specs in mind, and in fact may be doing so with high-temp grade metals, ceramic and med-grade silicon/plastic materials. I could be wrong, but...

I think that the safety issue is MORE of a concern for a medical user than it is for a recreation user, however I'm not saying that a recreational user wants a crappy airpath, It is just that in my interactions with people who are recreational users in real life, show that they generally don't worry as much about what they inhale as a medical user would. Im goning to stop arguing this point now for two reasons, 1, there isn't a fine line between medical and recreational users, and 2, this is a pain in the ass point to try and defend. I'll admit that your right.

Exactly!

So well said.

How well is the ZEN PEN made?
Materials?

I can careless if you have a medical reason or your a recreational user!
Sorry if I wasn't clear.
Many of my friends are stoners.
Some went to MIT and USC and so on.
Some never worked a day in their life and surf everyday.
I have no bias!
Using marijuana is much safer than doing KEG STANDS.
So I'm not judging Cannabis use.
Just wondering if the materials used have the medical marijuana patient in mind?
Or is this pen just to get high without papers?

Why can't anyone answer the other important question I have?

TASTE? FLAVOR?
Every small device taste like DOG CRAP!
If it is harsh do something else!

If the ZEN PEN meets my critical taste requirements then you will be a rich successful person.
Now if it taste bad your wasting everyone's time.
Especially yours!

If it's all good reviews I'll buy one.
Now if people say it taste bad well I can buy a few packs of ZIG-ZAGS instead!

Please understand I'm not a hater it's just I've been down this road a few times!

Just put in $99 for the standard grasshopper vaporizer, hopefully the word will keep spreading so we can see this great looking project put to completion :)

Anyone know if they plan on offering the accessories (like the case!) for sale if the project reaches its sales goals? Or are they just like "pre-donation" benefits that you have to contribute to now if you want them?

Well there's nothing in the vapour path but stainless steel, doesn't add any taste as far as I can tell.

Are you asking if they will add goodies to buyers if they reach the goal? As far as I know, no.

If you want to add accessories, add the price of the item to your donation and email them that you want that accessory.

I'm sure that every accessory they have on indiegogo will be available afterwards, I mean, why offer a smell proof case for your item only once?

Over the falls, in a barrel
Almost one year ago, I pre-ordered a Cera. Being an early December pre-order, I was among those who had to wait the longest to get one in my hands.

So, I know full well the risks involved when making an early commitment on a new vaporizer. I know what it's like to put money down based on a dream, to have to wait a long time through manufacturing difficulties, and then to finally receive the product and realize I have come to terms with the reality of how it functions.

I grew to love that vape, but there was no way I could have understood the physicality of its approach to vaporization until I actually held it and took the time to learn how to use it. I made that pre-order only a month after getting my first vaporizer, the launch box, and falling in love with vaporization. I didn't have the experience or the knowledge at the time to really think about the reality of the device, versus the magic wand that I'd seen in videos that seemed to simply dispense vapor.

With all that said, one year later, I find myself going for it again. I'm in.

I'm putting my money down on this thing with the full knowledge that even experienced manufacturers run into extended delays. I'm ordering one even knowing that no one except the Grasshopper team themselves know exactly what it is like to interact with it. I learned some hard lessons from the Cera pre-order experience, and even with those lessons in mind I'm ready to climb aboard here. Even if for one reason or another I don't end up receiving mine until April, and even though it might very well function far differently than I expect, I'm happy to have contributed to this campaign.

I want to support these guys. I like that they're a part of my generation and are in a position which I dream of being in. I like that they're located out here on my home coast. I like their style. I like the aesthetics. I like what they're trying to do.

Best of luck, Team Grasshopper. Here's to a day when Der Grazenhoppen could be mine!

Zenpen - great looking product, I just sent this out to my buddies and 4 ended up buying on the spot. I did want to make a few quick pointers/suggestions.

I think a small, cheap case for the pen+stash is a necessity for a product like this. I don't understand why this would be a Titanium only option, the unwashed stainless masses need this just as bad.

Based on the video it appears that the load size is fairly small - I would guess .4g max (can you confirm) - Either way I think the Zenpen would benefit from you guys selling additional "cartridges" ie screened off stainless tips - so one could prepack 3-4 of them for a day on the go, would make for a truly portable solution.

Best of luck!

Extra cartridges is a great idea !

I posted on their campaign site that we should reach out to our local shops and tell them about the retail kit. I really want this to make it.

Way back in August, these guys had the creators on their podcast: http://www.vaporreviewblog.com/vaporcast-episode-2-zenpen-questions-and-answers/

Around 21 minute: "[air path] is entirely inert materials, everything is food and medical grades safe..."

I think the disclaimer is just to avoid the association with cannabis. I mean, PAX is labelled strictly as a tobacco vaporizer, and they do not have anything regarding it as a medical instrument, but they do say they use medical grade equipment.
