FC. The forum of 10,000 acronyms/ abbreviations?

As a babe in the woods, one of the things that strikes me is the large use of abbreviations in the average discussion on this forum.

How did this tradition get started?

I see that a lot in niche cultures. Kind of a way to set a group apart. It does create a little bit of a barrier to entry for folks that stumbled here from a search engine. But it also creates a very targeted, coherent community. So I see it as a good thing.

Edit: Also, as more people post from mobile devices, acronyms get used more to save time. There was a time when people would type out "I'm laughing out loud at that".

Because its easier to abbreviate when your high as fuck. Spelling shit out is for the birds

That makes it bird law, and bird law in this country is not governed by reason.

if vaporizercompanies would just serve our laziness and would give their vaporizers short names of 3-4 letres, I bet the use of abbreviations here would decrease a lot
