Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

These units have incredible potential when they work correctly to be used as they are. C'mon lady luck!

On a side note, I have sent some oil jars to a glass guy in order to make a possible prototype spacer that either may be a thick ground that goes on the bottom of the unit or an actual oil jar, just thicker and more snug with holes of course. Nothing for sure yet. Still in the trying to phase.

Received my Ascent over a week ago. Love the look, size, temp.control, but very disappointed. I only use oil (Pure Gold) the hits were just lame, and there most of the the oil leaks out and creates a mess. any ideas? thanks

try some of that oil on cotton or hemp fiber and put it in there.

Hi everyone, my Ascent is arriving on monday. I'm from Europe so I hope I get a good device since it's gonna be very confusing to ship it back to DV...
Does someone know if you need a voltage converter for the charger or if it's ok for european 220v? Plug is not a problem... I should find an adapter.
I'm kinda new to vapes, previously I had the Pax but I lost it and I went back to combustion for a few months. I hope the Ascent is gonna feel like an upgrade from the PAX. Vape high is definitely something better for me, I like the fact that it's a more head high and more energetic and not lazy high.

I'm also planing to vape some hash with the Ascent. If I fully pack the glass jar with hash... does someone know how many hits I can get out of it?
I hope I can fully fill the Ascent with hash and go out with a fully charged Ascent. Then medicate through the whole day...

Hey swiss, i'm from Europe too, i don't have an Ascent but i can tell you what i've been read. Hash works but directly in the chamber, inside the jar i don't think you'll have luck, anyway just crumble it or press it paper thin and throw it in the chamber with some herb/cotton in the base. Tell us how it goes

I want to thank everyone in this thread for all the useful information regarding the Ascent.
I bought a stealth and it arrived in August. It leaked a lot of air and did not get me medicated. I could see daylight by the latch about 1 inch long. If not for this thread I may have done nothing and kept it, and suffered in silence being out all that $.

Also, the trim was chipping off. Then I noticed what looked like a crack in the bowl which went half way down.
I contacted DV. They told me to send it back, on my dime, no offer to pay.
I received a new one about 10 days ago. It works great! I'm very happy with it no air leaks. I do notice a lot of vapor coming from the grill. It gets me medicated though.

The Ascent does use a lot of herb compared to the Solo. I bought the glass pipe screens from Amazon to help fill the bowl. I use the glass pipe screens with the new Pinnacle Pro., so the Wt. or the mouthpiece doesn't get all messy. A great place to find information.

The Ascent does use a lot of herb

There has been a prolonged discussion within the last few weeks on maximizing efficiency of very small loads. (one of them was 25mg) Regardless -- for a variety of load sizes -- there are different techniques to maximize output. Across the board, the glass screens from $store is a good start. There are other things like, pack, draw, rest cycles, etc, etc, that all help, for what you are looking for.

What size load are you starting with? Solo-size? Full-bowl? A pinch? Full bowl, packed like crazy? Han-Solo-size (excluding mass of Carbonite)?

And what about your session expectation?

It's one thing to fill the bowl and expect prolonged use over a period of time, possibly days. It's another to a high-temp load driven by need for immediate visuals. It's yet another for favoring flavor extraction and savoring the moment.

Regardless, someone else here has most likely either tested it, or something similar to it, or is awaiting input from someone that has...

Cheers

Nigel I respect your opinion very much. I have read a lot of helpful info coming from you over the last few months. it's probably been said, a lot has to do with herb quality too. I am still getting used to the Ascent, results for me will get better. I notice when the draw stem is pushed in to where only a bit over an inch is exposed when drawing, the draw is better.

I bought some of those flowers from Amazon, so let me be clear:

Putting the oil jar on a small load to keep it packed is certainly good enough to never need flowers, whether you have holes drilled in the jar or not, BUT-

I put two flowers on the bottom, a pinch, two on top, and try to edge in the others, and it's way better. In fact, for the money, its almost stupid not to. They are amazing. If I was DV I would simply link to them from the page.

I'll try cotton next, when I get around to picking some up.

:) Well, I think my main point is that, for as many different approaches, there are as many solutions. So not so much an issue of "right or wrong" as "right, right, right, kinda-off, right, wrong, right, wrong, wtf were you thinking?!?"

Some factors do have global impact, but other finesses apply to a smaller user sets.

(HINT: was also soliciting your subsequent testing and input. :) )

FOR EXAMPLE: You are the third person that has mentioned minimizing the extraction of the draw-stem. Others are unaffected by this. My solution is to go with the heavy glass, and do the 14mm adapter as a draw-stem. I like the heft and the feel, and it reduces to zero the offset of that stem.

EDIT for no Back-to-back:
---------------------------------

Nailed it.

Two points:

1) Don't know if bottom layer of glass needed. I've been trying it both ways for the last few days with inconclusive results. I'm trying to isolate what obviously must be slight changes in my behavior, to eliminate anything other than placement of bottom layer.

2) Cotton does work well, but I always felt that too much cotton discoloration was occurring, indicating absorption/condensation, that was personally undesirable. I guess the same argument can be made for either the stems or the glass flowers, but at least the latter two are easier to do a tincture extraction from.

Have you tried oil jars with holes drilled in them?? I have flowers and a jar with holes and IMO feel just the opposite of you. Vaping has so many variables, experimenting is so much fun. I am still a good pinch of med fine grind, compress with jar until flush and enjoy @ 375. Have tried cotton and did not like as much as my jar. IMO we should not take the pressure off of DV to come up with a spacer solution.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Ascent, but will continue to drill holes in the bottom of my jars. Loading and picking out multiple pieces of glass doesn't work for me. I like my little baked cakes of ABV that I blow out in one piece when finished.

Hey everyone, I have had my Ascent for about 3 days and I've noticed the "new smell" it gives off is still quite strong, also there is some off-gassing at around 395F. I really love this product and have notified Davinci about a return, and am currently awaiting reply.

About that discoloration, I used the same piece of cotton for two sessions, after that, I put the cotton
itself in the bowl and vaped away, I can get 5+ good inhales with visible vapor from such a (small) piece of cotton.
Plus, this way my stem and glas screen stay much cleaner, no debris whatsoever and when the screen gets
really too full of resin, I just put it in a hot cup of milk for a nice hot chocolate :-)
I tried the flowers (well not flowers but glass gemstones or something) and they gave me also great results, similar to cotton but with one (for me) huge difference : pieces of herb sticking in the screen, going in my mouth etc.

I got mine last Tuesday and the smell was disturbing the first couple of days but it's pretty much gone now. It's just uncured silicone seals which will quit off gassing with some use.
Just be patient.

I just had another experisession with the Ascent.
Things are getting stranger (--->read better) the more you use this thing, it reminds me a bit of the cera, it has a learning curve.
Today I used a small amount, 1/3th of a pinnacle load (one scoop with the pipe tool or what I usually load in my mflb) put a good piece of cotton on top of it and tamped down.
I put the heat up to 221°C (max temp) and both me and my wife got very nicely medicated this way with some decent clouds. Vapor kept comming for a surprisingly long time.
It felt like it medicated better this way than when I put much more in the bowl but also might be my medicated mind that is playing tricks on me.
It medicated me more than I would expect but at the same time the level of medication also got less
a bit faster than usual.
Just because I'm a cheap bastard I put the abv from the ascent into my pax, put it on red and stil got a few puffs from it.
(although the ascent goes higher in temp, since I stopped using the pax screen it can get the abv darker than the ascent does, only difference is with the ascent, there is hardly any bad taste and with the pax on red my wife always thinks I'm burning a dead hamster with some brocoli and eggs on top of it)

Nicely done. Some how the notion of vaping the cotton escaped me.

Really, both load and extraction temps factor heavily, so I'm not surprised. I've gotten huge clouds off of large high-temp loads. I've gotten almost-hour-long sessions off of very small loads indeed, but managing temp.

To each, our own...

Ok I got my Ascent a week ago and after a lot of playing around trying all tips it seems I've got an air leaking one. All I get is wispy vapour at best with a bad taste. Other than that it had no defects, looks real pretty. So I can't report anything else about the Ascent, I'll be ringing Organix to get on the replacement go round.
I think the part that pisses me of the most it is so easy to test for air leaks as this problem was supposed to be fixed, I could easily build a little vac pump system to plug into top of units block bottom see if seal is tight for a $100. So now I'll loose my vape for at least a month because it took me 2 weeks of postage time to get it in the first place not including the extra cash for the postage. Also I was waiting for the pretty girl to turn up so I could send her older sister back because the down button won't work any more (must think we're married as she won't go down for me lol) I have only had that one for a month or so.
Now what have we learnt yes Organix has got the design down but if you get the cheapest people to build it, that is like paying for the best arcitect to draw your plans and the dodgy brothers to build your house.
Speaking for myself I think I would prefer to pay the extra money in peoples wages not give it to the postal services. So don't get things made in the cheapest country but make them at home as I'm quit sure like in Australia the US finds manafacturing jobs are hard to come by, they might get paid more at home but they get the job done.

Howdy. Welcome to the fun. I'm sure you'll really get to like the Solo as you become better acquainted. Everyone seems to.

While having less surface area per unit of mass, those flowers should work fine I'd think. Better and a sphere or bead. Much better than nothing.

I also recall someone posting a link in the UK, EDI I think? They were selling Roor versions, I'd think they could be found as well?

Good luck, enjoy your Solo. Too bad good bud is hard to find in 'the old country'.......

I'm still getting strong silicone smell and off-gassing, I think I'll return the device for a refund until these issues get fixed. I just spoke with customer service to process my RMA and she informed me that the off-gassing was harmless to inhale but I just cant bear that smell mixed with my fine herbs, I hope they get these issues fixed because I would like to purchase another one in the future.

Just to put things in some perspective here, some units, including mine never exhibited any off-gassing whatsoever.

Wasn't the original source for the silicon changed, along with pre-sale QC procedures for curing? TIA!

Yup. I got one where apparently, these issues were addressed, but from some of the posts that I'm reading here, it sounds like it could still be a crap shoot in regards to getting a good one or not.

Curious. Arch, did you order your's directly from DV or did you get it from a distributor?
