The common response to that is to check your technique. Low and slow is the way this seems to work best. I did a bunch of herb at 350 and got vapor well. Unlike many people here, I don't find packing it tight to make nearly as much of a difference and just filling the bowl.
I was with friends and we were actually doing a tasting. We went through about 4 non-packed bowls, 2 drags a piece (so 6 hits a bowl). The herb started to taste baked, but the ABV was a medium brown...if you were going for efficiency, you could have hit it again.
They were heavy hitters, and by the last bowl they were both ready to quit for a while. I was as medicated as I have ever been in my life.

Believe me THIS IS A PERFECT FIT and fairly cheap. http://www.tamrac.com/products/neosdigital14/ Has light padding and most of all stealth like the unit (mine is black color with a blackish strip down the middle Model No 3814). Not knocking the other guys choices i think there great, the Rolls Royce`s so to speak. I figure if i am using a black Stealth Ascent i just as well stay with the theme and I tell you it is a very nice fit

Does the crocodile skin feel or look like cheap imitation? Does the stealth feel cheap?

I actually found a small digital camera bag I have not used for a while and it is a perfect. fit. Even have enough room to take the extra glass still in the foam if I needed too.
After the first few times using the ascent I am not sure what I m doing wrong. I got a small amount of vapor vapor once, most of the time there was NONE. I have had vapor cannon and a volcano and tried a number of other ypes but nothing potable prior too this.
I actually found a small digital camera bag I hve not used for a while and it is a perfect. fit. Even have enough room to take the extra glass still in the foam if I needed too.

I have not received my Ascent yet, but that sounds like an electrical short and or arching.
I know that there are folks here who will not like this, but here is the story...
Last Friday I was finally ready to "pull the plug" and order.
I sent TorontoVaporizer and Da Vinci each an e-mail asking to be put on the waiting list.
On Sunday, I went to the DaVinci site and decided to see what would happen if I tried to order. The order (Stealth) was mailed out yesterday.
I did NOT try to cut the line, I had no idea if my order would be filled now or when there are more units available.
My guess is that DaVinci makes more money on units they sell directly so they have more stock.
So, if speed is more important to you than the "free" grinder, buy directly from DaVinci.
One more thing (Mod does not like multiple posts in a row).
The F-Bomb water tube from PlanetVap should work fine (with the 14mm adapter).
When I went to Amazon to order the glass flowers everyone talks about I noticed "jacks" honeycome, and other designs. Does anyone have any info on other choices than "flowers"

I was going to wait for Toronto Vape to stock them but seems most of you folks are enjoying your version 2 Ascents so I ordered from Organix last night. I will have to pay shipping and duty but have been working a lot of overtime lately so it's my little reward for being a good boy. I think the boss should buy it for me.

Hey guys, Im thinking of buying the ascent but I have a couple of questions.
How well does it work for hash? Its the dry pretty hard maroccan kind. Should i grind it up and put it in the oilcan?
Is the da vinci webpage and gotvape the only places you can buy it on right now? Im looking for a cheap bubbler or similar for it but i would like to buy everything from the same webpage because im in europe and the shippingcost can be pretty bad.
The pinnacle wt with the couponcode did look great but doesnt deliver to Sweden as far as i can tell.

I'm not anywhere near done fiddling yet, but so far all my loads come out dark roast coffee brown/black as well.
lwien...try starting on the highest temp and hitting it til it's done for a good efficiency comparison between your vapes.
I have found I can vape as small a load as I wish with cotton/hemp, so you can get as efficient as you want if you are willing to use that medium. I'm gonna go glass bead shopping today.

I haven't tried with dry one, only with some nice greasy bubbly one and it works fine on top of some herb but doesn't work in oil can.
That gets the oven quite dirty though (hope the iso I'll receive today will clean it well!!) if you don't wanna risk staining it use some organic cotton, I believe @stickstones started a thread about vaping with cotton.
I'll see if I can get my hand on some dry pollen and will give it a shot for you, I know... I'm nice like that!

Yes it will work for hash. Definitely grind it. I like the Ascent for hash (primarily why purchased). I wouldn't use the oil can. I'd place it between layers of flowers. I've tried both kief and full melt and both worked great.
When you say electrical short and/or arching... is that it inconsequential?

If it was there (I'm sure it's not....) it definitely would be important and wouldn't be stable (it will almost certainly degrade quickly).
And it won't make any noise on cool down (no power......), which it does?
I'm convinced the noises I heard are thermal expansion related. Definitely not electrical.

I just ordered my Ascent yesterday (direct website allowed me to order and right now it says "Shipped" on the customer portal. I also have a Tracking number from FedEx) and choose the FedEx Priority shipping.
Although the DaVinci website says shipped and gave me a tracking number. FedEx (I called them) says they have only received the shipping request and have not been provided with any package.
I tried calling DaVinci and was only able to speak with the voicemail system. (I left a message).
Does anyone know if the Ascent's are even in stock? (I ordered the burled wood model)
Is their web portal mistaken when it says shipped?
How long did most people have to wait when they ordered?

I just got a call from Davinci customer support. First, let me say my experience so far with Davinci has been great. I think I was just a little spooked by some of the negative experiences talked about in this thread and wasn't being patient enough. Because within a few hours of leaving a voice mail I got a call back from a really polite and professional CS rep.
He told me that the reason why their web site say shipped, but FedEx sites says "Shipping details received" is that FedEx has not picked it up! I was informed that it is packaged and waiting at their office and that FedEx should be picking it up today (hopefully). So that is some great news
I will let everyone know how long it takes to get to me (I am in Canada). But I just wanted to say thanks to the Davinci team, great customer service so far. And a note to anyone else freaking themselves out by reading this thread, maybe just give it a little more time before you pull the fire alarm like I did

They have started to recycle tracking numbers so wait 24 hrs and it will probably start working tomorrow
When I hold mine by my ear, I can hear it making noise. Doesn't bother me, I will stop doing that.

Yes my tracking number says it was delivered July 21 2012. Good to hear it's just a recycled number.

I really can't hear yours from here. But the one I tested was expansion related I'm sure. Sometimes such noises slow or stop but sometimes not (remember heat flows constantly under some conditions).
What I can say is arcing at such low power levels is never stable. If it was arcing it'd be stone dead by now I bet.....and yours performs normally?
Several others of us hear noises too, it's not really like the little voices only you can hear.......
