The Lotus Vaporizer

New forum member and new lotus user here. I actually purchased this vape at the beginning of a mini tolerance break and have been admiring it for a week or so now. Last night, I tried it for the first time. On my third attempt at hitting it, I got huge amounts of vapor, thick and tasty. Safe to say, I was creamed! However, after that I couldn't seem to get the technique down again. This might be because I was getting drunker and drunker but I was wondering if some day to day users could post some hints! I've looked through many pages but haven't really found much by the way of tips.

How ground up should the flower be and how packed up should the bowl be? It seems like it should be packed fatter to be closer to the hot plate, but the sheeet says less is more. Is 1/4 '' really the best lighter setting? How long do you preheat the plate and how long does it take for the visual hot spot to appear? I don't really remember ever seeing that hot spot.

Welcome to the forum and the Lotus family! Try a 1/2" to 5/8" flame, a coarse grind is just fine for any convection vaporizer, pack a load from barely covering the screen to a half bowl, lightly packed works better for thicker clouds and 2-3 sec preheat is enough!

Waiting for your second go... ;)

I received the glass pipe kit today! I've tried it out a few times today and I am completely loving it! Still trying to figure out my technique... sometimes there is minimal vapor but the first kink in the j hook gets really really hot. Not sure if this is normal or not.

Since lotus is trying out different j hooks here's a picture to show you the kind they sent me.

A fine grind just before powder is best. In reality I use a medium grind due to laziness, I grind up everything quick. I use just enough to cover the screen. I'm an efficiency slut, so maybe not the best to answer. I've packed it up to 3/4 with a rough grind and it still worked properly. A bit scorched though.

Finely ground and lightly packed.

The beauty of the Lotus is that it shines different everyday to me, like all of us.

I tried again last night (my friend and I will be giving it a whirl tonight as well). I only tried out two more bowls. The bigger torch setting worked well and I got a multiple medium sized hits. I didn't quite get any bangers but I think I'm still getting the technique down. Even without huge hits yet, I'm loving it. I still got really vaped and felt great hours later.

I've been looking at a few stores in towns (smoke shops, outdoor gear shops, etc) looking for a spare torch lighter. The one provided is nice but does occasionally sputter. Do you know of any websites or big box stores that carry a good selection of quality torch lighters? The goose neck torches seem to be sparse.

I've tried putting my bud through my grinder twice to get it fine, but I was worried about it possibly clogging the screen. Bits and pieces seem to be stuck in the screen after clearing the bowl but it isn't affecting the pull. I think it worked better with just one grind when I did it last time though. I'll keep tinkering with amounts and grind amount.

I asked another forum member but do you know of any websites/stores that carry a selection of quality goose neck torch lighters? I've read on here that its meant for single flame but double flame may work as well. I wouldn't want to mess it up though.

Pretty awesome. Can you please comment on how the j hook performs compared to the standard, long stem?

I would if I could but the glass pipe kit doesn't come with the standard stem. This is my first time owning a lotus so I can't make that comparison. My initial impressions of the j hook are pretty good though. On the end of longer pulls I have felt the bottom of the first kink of the j hook get too hot to touch, but that could be because I haven't found the correct method yet.

Another issue(?) I have found is that the hot plate starts to glow orange within 3 seconds of me applying heat. I thought the newer versions did not do this anymore? I'm using 1/2" and just putting the tip of the inner cone onto the surface and making little circles on the hotplate. Even though it turns orange like that and the j hook is getting pretty hot as im inhaling, when I exhale there is still only minimal vapor.

Despite this, packing the bowl so it just covers the screen is all I put in and its quite enough to get me feelin pretty gooood. :smug:

Try to decrease your inhale speed. This will increase the air temperature. Don't be afraid to scorch your herb, it's good to find the upper limit.. You can also try using different parts of the flame to heat the plate. Remember to adjust one thing at a time.

Exactly that! Draw speed plays a major role here like in most convection vaporizers. It's easier with the al pipe since the air path is a bit more restricted but you can nail it with the WA too... Give it a little time and experiment!

Same thing happens with VG coil it's annoying using my batting, golf, or work gloves to use the j hook with it native. I've yet to see a review between the VG coil and Lotus. Looks alone lotus wins that, but I don't own a Pax if that tells ya anything. I'm thinking you can get three coils for the price of one lotus, so is the lotus 3x better? Doubtful prob just expensive cause it's the new cute flame vape? Idk would love a good review bc I'm tempted to purchase this pretty lil lotus, but can't justify it now...

I was a pretty big VG fan and now having used the Lotus, I'd have to say it's an entirely different experience.

Prior to the VG, I used a MFLB. I didn't feel like I was depleting my herb very well and wanted something a little hotter...the VG.

I'd have to say that using a Lotus comparing it to the VG is like comparing a filtered cigarette with a cigar. Maybe not the best analogy to use on a site labeled fuckcombustion, but you get my drift.

I guess saying the Lotus is more refined is what I'm getting at.

As for the price, I was kind of skeptical too, but when you actually see it in person, the value becomes apparent. It's a very nicely done piece with a machined/anodized stem and highly detailed cap. After actually handling it for some time, it's amazing that they can make it for it's retail price. You'll just have to take my word on it.

As much as I like the Lotus, it does have a few disadvantages to the VG though. For instance, I personally don't find it as stealthy over all , which is kind of a big deal to me. The VG's threaded cap is better for concealed carry. The hiss of a jet lighter is a little noisy too which matters in quiet environment. Also, the VG is a little stealthier in it's ability to allow me conceal the candle flame from a lighter.

The vapor quality the Lotus is much smoother than the VG, but the clouds aren't as robust. The smell is less noticeable too. Good for stealth/ indoor vaping.

My opinion is that the ability to deplete the herb is superior with the Lotus, but you have to really work at drawing the air through the tiny inlets in the cap...so it's a little more work to get a lung-full.

I think the Lotus is slightly better at medicating...for myself anyway.

In the end, it's a tie between the two. One's just different than the other and if you want to have a different experience, it's a worthy investment.

As for the MFLB, I don't get the hype.

Thanks all the same.

I have to say one of the things I don't care for with the standard Lotus is the really small bore diameter of the stem. I realize this is probably done intentionally to control the heat and airflow to an optimal level, but I wonder if the J hook changes all that (assuming the J hook has a larger bore diameter)

Or maybe I'm just over analyzing/thinking this whole thing and should just go and start a fresh bowl.....

First of all... About the price. Lotus is less than two times more expensive than the coil. Does that make it 2x better now? Better at what? 2x more stealthy? Should it extract cannabinoids 2x better? 2x more stylish? What? The Sublimator costs a thousand bucks! Do you think it is 30x times better than the coil? Is the Cloud 6x better than the Lotus? You are starting on the wrong base here mate... The price is the sum of all kinds of different things, it hasn't got a direct relation to the real value of the product especially to the value it holds to the individual.
For me, finding the Lotus again after so many vapes that I have tried is priceless!
What are your priorities when you are considering a vape? Tell me and I will give you the most thorough review and comparison between the Lotus and the Coil... ;)

Well thanks for no review, a few off base remarks, incorrect mathematics, and to top it off making less interest for me now in this item. I have found the coil for as low as 35$ brand new and it works great, with both 14mm and 18mm joints. All I am looking for is an honest comparison of the two. Sorry to piss in your wheaties with a valid question.

Yeap! Sorry for the math... Had just woken up... Does it matter though? You made a comparison point based on price alone... 3x pricier shouldn't mean 3x better for any vape! Why was that comment of mine off based? I was just answering your question...

Do you need an honest comparison between the Lotus and the VG? Cause this is what the coil basically is? Open your eyes and read some posts back and also many more posts throughout the thread! Read the damn Lotus page and the FAQ's! The main point of difference is that with the VG pipes and the likes you get to also inhale butane fumes and some times even toxic metals from the flint from non piezoelectric lighters. Taste usually also sucks! Check my sign. Some don't mind, some do mind! Ask yourself who the heck you are and judge by yourself if that justifies paying 69 more bucks!

And I am only ONE user of this vape... If you don't like my comments, there is an Ignore button for me... Press it and wait for another user to chime in! :mental:

And you hadn't piss in my wheaties before... You pissed me off now with your hostile comments!

I made no hostile comments and you insulted me first with your rant of 3x, 5x, 30x, I thought you were talking about a microscope for a second. I got what I was looking for bc all your comments regarding the VG, basically boils down to user error. So I get this is a more user friendly flame vape therefore slightly justifying a higher tag. Sorry to have pissed you off, but it seems your very edgy in the mornings, good day sir...

Saying that I am making off base remarks without saying what remarks these were and telling me that you are sorry you pissed in my cereals? It's hostile enough for me...

How did I insult you with my comments about the price? Rant? Really? I wasn't aware I did that...

Getting fumes with the VG is user error??? PLease enlighten me mister! And I am always edgy when people don't speak nice to me...

I think I feel more restriction when using the standard pipe than the WA so my guess is that the small holes in the vapor cup can draw more air than the pipe is capable to draw. So yes, the J-hook should also feel more open...

Sir, I respect you sincerely I do. I never meant any disrespect. If you read the faqs under VG website you will see what I mean by user error. All flame vapes and vapes in general deal with fumes some larger than others. So the lotus is better than the coil at that, something to point out for future Coil vs lotus comparisons. However, we could go around and around arguing the same side of a different coin. Any other comparison points?

No worries... Let's move on... And don't sir me! I hate that word...

I was reading the VG faq's right now... What do you mean user error? Remember, I have used the VG for more than 6 months with all kinds of flame sources. I got the best flavor with the Hemp Wick but I am not sure what else came with that in my lungs... :p My throat suffered, that's for sure. Torches also gave me butane taste. Simple lighters was just yuk!

You are saying that all flame vapes deal with fumes... Well this is not accurate for the Lotus cause it doesn't deal with fumes at all by design... We can go around and around but this is the major selling point that sets the Lotus apart from other convection flame vapes. And for some it's huge! I can't stress that enough...

Other comparison points though can include better cooling of the vapor due to a longer vapor path leading to smoother hits, Lotus looking more like a pipe and less than a crack pipe so it's more stylish and I don't know what else... :)

The coil is obviously more affordable and more pocketable. Pocketable doesn't mean stealth in my book of course... You also get more flame options and that could be priceless in some scenarios!

I hope I was of more help this time and I hope more can chime in... :2c: :)

You Must Unlearn, What You Have Learned...
Thank you my friend! That was exactly what I was looking for, and I'm now in the market for a lotus wpa kit! I agree I don't think the coil fits the stealth requirement. I have to use it with glass of some sorts. I have had multiple blisters and one crescent shaped brand that I will have for idk how damn long.
