Please understand the Herc is not made for everyone it is a machine that can be the best only if your willing to learn. It's not for the timid.

Mystery burn off vapor? Is that when you've just finished cleaning the coil (ISO/boil) and then when you run it dry you still get some vapor? Because I had that exact experience the other night and just figured I didnt do a long enough ISO burn-off.
I put everything (sans rod and PTFE insulator) in a small tupperware for about 10-15min then shake rigorously, then use the brush that came with the herc to brush the middle. For the rod I wipe with ISO as much as I can, then while holding it with pliers I torch the end until it glows red hot. I allow it to cool for a couple seconds then wipe off any remaining black residues (from less-than-pure oils). Then I put the rod and coil in and pretty much kill a set of batteries dry burning it to try and heat off the rest of the ISO.


Curious if everyone has had this mystery vapor after a cleaning. I figured it was residual ISO still in the coil, but I never noticed it till the other night.

One last thing - DO NOT PUT A FLAME TO THE SS COILS, this will burn them black.


I'll bet that this mystery vapor will not be around with the Ti coils.....

The mystery vapor produced is from residuals inside the coil that arnt cleaned out or just can't be cleaned so all your left to do is torch it, but since it's ss you can't torch it some residue might still be left behind.

We are on it with the Ti coils and you can torch it to glow red to clean it off.

Yes and no. I had a burnt/metallic taste going on with my herc. To track it down I cleaned every part except the coil and rod, so that it was all spotless. Still got the taste.

Cleaned the rod until it too was basically as pristine as its going to get. Retried. Still had the burnt taste. Had to be the coil.

Took the coil out and heated it in the toaster oven at 200°F until all the wax and oil melted out onto my slick pad. Let it cool then put it in a warm ISO bath for 3 hours, while shaking from time to time. Took it out and let air dry after shaking it out, then put it back in the toaster oven at 200° to boil off any remaining ISO.

After all that, I dropped it into the Hercules and ran 4 full cycles (held power until timer cuts off) on fully charged AW batteries then 4 more cycles with fresh batteries.

Even after all this I still got large amounts of vapor coming off the coil when I heated it in the Hercules. Blowing down into the cart without the heatshield/SS cap/MP in place while heating the coil resulted in very visible vapor coming out through the air holes in the lower core chamber. This vapor wasn't really apparent if you didn't do this, but I assume it would also come out if you inhaled through the MP.

Anyway, said vapor smells (and thus I assume also tastes) like the off flavor I'd been tasting before I started cleaning stuff.

Edit: g posted when I was writing this. I agree its residual stuff in the coil, but its for sure not ISO.

@Caligula ill get to the bottom of the issue.

As for the next trick up my sleeve.

Basically...will I be disappointed with its use for herbs? I'm sure it'll blow me away for oil, but it'd be great to get an honest review of it as an herb vape as well. Might be the tipping point.

THC Scientific is being honest. The Herc is the king for oils but the simplicity and vapor quality of the PAX are hard to beat for herbs in a portable that size! Although, now I own both the PAX and the Persei/Herc and the PAX used to be my every day vape until I got the Persei/Herc, bcuz now I haven't even vaped barely any buds at all, just budder and shatter!!! And I didn't plan on that happening bcuz I always loved my pax! But now I love my Persei/Herc!!! Lol.

So ive been working with the new persei tops and SR-71 white rod. Trying to tune in the original before starting in on the black rod just yet.

People say there is tons of power to the SR-71 but it seems i am lacking that power. It seems my buddy is getting more 'cloud coverage' in his CLOUD unit than i am on the SR71 white rod. Both using the same shatter. Both primed. Its ok clouds, but as was said before it seems like the original carts gave more 'cloud' in comparison.

Any tips of tricks? Could it be the damned crap shatter wax (i hate shatter, and many waxes).

There is transparent goo and some budder as well. Only because there is still a fair amount of this bumm-ass shatter in it.

My 7.4 v gets hot like fire and give me lung busters so powerful that I can't handle it without water. I get that dab situation where liquid hash chunks re-form in my lungs.
I had to mess around with it forever to get it to work that way though. I bet its one of the little things you already tweaked (the gap showing on the rod, the two screws on the insulator). Now when I notice a decline in power, the culprit is either one of those two or I didn't cool it right and oil leaked all around the rod and f'ed up the connections.
If you are not getting incapacitators at 7.4 v (way bigger than the og carts) than you just keep tweaking. Oh yeah the 18350's that came with the Persei don't work so hot. The AW IMR's are better(maybe you already knew that.

Agreed. This thing HAMMERS the batteries. I have two sets of 18350s and I always have one set charging. That way I swap out every session or so, and I never have to worry about being low on power and melting the concentrate into the lower chamber unless theres some user error involved.

Even with the AWs I notice a decline after 2 sessions or so.

Same here. I keep one set of AW's in my Persei and one set in the charger. Hopefully soon, I'll be able to spring for The Core and make the issue of batteries obsolete.

Yea me too. In the meantime, Ill pick up an SS kit so I can run two high end 18650s. I hear you get juice for days with those.

I first contacted @THC SCIENTIFIC about a current issue with my single top that doesnt always work when I press the buttonw while dealing with other problems. He stated it was a known issue and they were trying to figure out the cause and fix it but it would take some time. Which i do not have a problem with waiting but its become quite annoying in certain situations so I contacted w9tech support...

I told them my issue and how its a known issue they were working on a fix for. I first asked if i could send back my un used double top to exchange it for a single top if it mettdheir expectations.

They said no. I firgured it was a long shot but I then replied back again stating it was a known issue they were trying to resolve and asked if I could just buy ane xtra single top so I wouldnt have to wait fort hem to find a fix.

They again said no, but i could mail my single top back and have them look at it...

So basically all i can do now is wait, or mail back my faulty single top that i was told they could not fix yet. It makes me feel like they didnt even read my messages

They are at the Denver cup or show, whatever you call it. G, posted a pic from there earlier in the Omi thread I believe. Might not have their top tier on support at the moment. I have been reading many of the companies are at trade shows currently(at least I believe W9Tech to be and the Dr dabber is also).

Brotha trust me im trying my best but your asking us to exchange a double top to a single top i cant do that. Because it opens a whole world of exchanging out tops now.

As for the rest im trying to isolate exactly what the cause is, not all the tops have this issue some dont have any issues but it could be a batch of tops that had the flaw.

We cant fix a problem we dont know whats causing it. Hope you understand as for customer service im here trying every day please dont say your having a horrible experience when im trying my hardest.

I thought I killed one of my HERCULES SR71?
It was just my orginal CHROME TOP. (It's finished)
However this thing just eats 18350's!
When I loaded a fresh set of batteries I was back in business.
The COIL is a must!
Still medicating with the TRIPLE PURGED GOD'S GIFT SHATTER!

Had to make due until I get a NIBBLER LX!

THC - I am interested to see how the new ceramic KISS cartridge reacts when EO is melted over the top of it. Will the EO melt down the creamic element and drip to the floor of the crucible? Or is the the EO retained in the ceramic element?

You can purchase some ceramic from: http://sngvapor.com/XC116 and test it out. Get some kanthal or nichrome wire and you can fully rebuild the KISS carts yourself.
