Underdog Log Vapes

Hey all. I'm considering the VVPS-mini that is sold on UD's website.
However, I would like to use it with my Zap. My current 'brick' is 12v @ 1amp.
By what I understand, most of these '12v log vapes' are using the same heating unit? Looks like the "up to 18v @ 1.5amp" should be safe from the VVPS in that case?
I even noticed the HI is using a 12v, 2.1amp brick. Again, assuming the same heating unit there.

Anyone else have experience using this VVPS with other 12v log vapes? Hell, I'm betting even the plug is the same by the looks of it.

And when you say 'not meant for 24/7 use', you mean the VVPS is not designed for 24/7, correct? Not the vape/heater itself? Knowing that its a tattoo PS, that would make sense, just want to be sure I understand that right.
The VVPS can warm up and the electronics may be short lived if ran 24/7 but it is *do able*. I use the same cords between my UD and HI so I would imagine if it's the same plug size you would be good to go!

Happy Monday! Here's a question I posted on our Facebook page, that I also wanted to share and ask here:

What's your favorite kind of wood? Light, dark, half'n'half, or maybe it's from a special place you love or you're from.

Personally, I have a hard time choosing favorites, but I love Blue Mahoe because Puerto Rico and the Caribbean hold a special place in my heart (plus it's silver-blue wood!), and Lignum Vitae because its so smooth and heavy.

The mighty Oak! It has been symbolic since ancient times, and even today is the national tree of the United States, England, France, Germany, Poland, and several other countries, it symbolizes strength and resolve, and I just plain dig it! :2c:

If you can't tell, I'm thinking oak for my next UD purchase.

I like the dark woods personally which is why I ordered the Puerto Rican blue mahoe twig this morning! Can't wait for this blue dog to come home and meet his blue brother!

Oh and I'm glad I finally registered.

My boss at the music store I worked at way back had "bubinga" wood on a very exotic guitar. I liked that quite a bit.

Oh man, I started learning to play guitar about a year ago, and after being in this business with all the woods we use, it was really cool to recognize some of them on the instruments. ❤

Walnut's always a good staple and plentiful around these parts. We try to throw a couple Walnut vapes in each batch! And Maxp - that beauty was packed and shipped this morning - you should get that fun package soon!

A lot of dark wood lovers (hehe, ba dom tsh! couldn't help it) - anyone fancy the lighter colored woods?

...Some questions for all the owners out there:

Have you noticed any correlation between Wood hardness and Temperature?

Which stems have you used/like best and what do you use them for?

For someone living in a dorm what stem would you suggest? (For minimal smell/Exposure of cannabis to air etc)

How often, if ever, do you combust?

I think some or most of these have already been answered but I'll chime in anyways.. ;)

1) As a very general rule the harder/denser woods will tend to run a tad cooler than softer/less dense woods. The difference is pretty small and many people wouldn't notice (though some do), it can be compensated for by using the VVPS to adjust temps to what works best for you on a session by session basis. The more dense woods make up for the slightly lower temps by having a slightly longer lifespan, again generally speaking.

2) My favorite stem is the Nylon Stem, direct draw with no water. I like this because I can use them for 1-hit bowls for max flavor and I like the affects of virgin material better. I like to load up however many stems I think I'll want and then just go through them, one hit each, once and done. :2c:

3) I think I've accidentally combusted 2-3 times in the past year, each time was a result of using the VVPS a little too aggressively. Barring something like that you should rarely (or never) combust. :peace:

Good afternoon dogs,

I have been enjoying my UD quite a bit, but I seem to be combusting material more often then not… I am not yet using the VVPS because I like to keep the UD plugged in 24/7. I have tried loading more/less, pulling harder/softer, but still combust the material.

Have any of you noticed some UD's running hotter then others? I have also, on occasion, noticed smoke/vapor coming from the UD when it has not been in use. Is this a normal characteristic?

Thank all in advance for your answers.

@underdog Just want to say my UD is so much more beautiful in person. I'm proud to have it on display! Also, you put out some awesome new dogs with the last refresh. I'm already excited to see what comes next!

@underdogette So many woods in the world, it's hard to pick just one! I am a fan of lighter wood with dark highlights (perhaps why I went with the Spalted Tamarind) or vice versa. I guess I need a little contrast!

@MileHighLife Good looking new dog, enjoy!

Hi Mustache, if you send me a private message with what wall-wart you're using we can see what we can do to bring the temp of your Dog down.. it does sound like it's running a little too hot from the sound of your combustion issue.

As far as smoking goes, it's hard to say without more data whether it's from debris that's fallen into the piece during use or from some lingering finishing oil cooking off or maybe even if the piece is hot enough some wood char going on. We'll try and figure that out as well when you message me.

Thanks :)

Nylon Stem, direct draw, no water is also my favorite way to Underdog, love those fresh hits every time!

Water is fun too... :smug:
Everybody seems to love the nylon stems. Even @underdog mentioned that it is his favorite stem. I feel so out-of-touch with my April '13 "classic" core.

The contest dog that VRB/UD are giving away in the contest section right now has the new core that is compatible with the nylon stems, having it sitting around my house waiting to get shipped to its new home is the worst tease of all! :nope:

Why haven't you entered the contest yet?! Just because you're already a proud UD owner doesn't mean you cant have a bit of fun and waive the prize ;).
Haha I attempted to last night, but getting a picture with my dog proved harder than imagined. Going to try and win it for my father, so simple even dad can use it! lol

Hey UDs! We've discontinued the WonGs and wooden stems. The last of the stock has been put on the website, so if you've been thinking of getting one, please grab it now!
does that also aply to the glass liners for inside the WonG?
I once bought 2 WonG's and one time I dropped one of the glass liners on stone tiles, and it broke, so since then I've been just using the leftover glass liner with both wooden parts, so if that last one would break someday I won't have a backup.

Hey djonkoman, we've taken the liners off the website for now, but I'm sure we could arrange a special request should the need arise, as long as we still have some of the tubing in stock.

eta: It might be good to order sooner rather than later though. Maybe you've got a list of other accessories to get as well?

Thanks guys, glad to see my hard work is appreciated.. :)

Hey, does anyone around these parts play PC games online FPS'ers in particular? If so I'm considering sponsoring an UD team to play a couple specific games.. anyone interested send me a PM for details. :ninja:

Gotta jump in and show the love. This thread needs to be in the top 3 regardless.

You guys might laugh, but, to answer your question Dave--once upon a time I was just nasty at quake 2. Played a lot of rogue spear and enjoyed it but rate of gameplay was too slow for me. Quake 3 was stupid to me. Unreal tournament was even dumber IMO. That's when I pretty much stopped playing videojuegos.

A note on combustion. It's like a convection oven, so the greater the restriction, the hotter your "thermal mass" will become. If your draw is "peggish", draw harder! Or else you'll hit that magic number when boiling becomes incinerator.

That being said, I use a twig on a daily basis with the gong on a b. Wilson bub and just love it. Much better than the 18mm gong fitting bc of...restriction!

Thanks Dave! Two years in the socket 24/7 and it's awesome.

Cheers mates

OK.. So I have a bit of a problem.

I accidentally spilt some aroma therapy oil into my underdog..

This happened a few months ago.. I cleaned it up the best I could, but some must have gotten inside and the smell still will not go away. What are my options here?
